WW II German battleship. Hunted down by the British , after sinking the battlecruiser HMS Hood in 1941. Bismarck took over 400 hits, plus torpedoes. Went down when the Germans set off the scuttling charges, but most experts agree that it would have eventually sunk due to battle damage. Over 2200 on the Bismarck, 114 survived. Only 3 survived from the Hood, of 1418 onboard. Stand alone single in 2019. Video is so good because it was made in conjunction with Wargaming, the company that makes the World of Warships game.

The wreck of Bismarck was discovered on 8 June 1989 by Robert Ballard, the oceanographer responsible for finding RMS Titanic. Bismarck was found to be resting on her keel at a dept of approximately 4,791 m (15,719 ft), about 650 km (400 mi) west of Brest. 48°10′N 16°12′W

As a side note here. The name they gave the boat at 1:53 is taken from a older song by the band, from the older setup of the band.

In 1960, Johnny Horton released a song “Sink the Bismarck” and it told the whole event of the sinking of the Bismarck. You might enjoy the lyrics, though the tune/melody is probably way too tame for you! 🤗

Excellent reaction. Sabaton goes all out in their music videos, filming this on the open sea on a small vessel, going to the Tunisian desert for "Seven Pillars of Wisdom," performing up to their waists (and destroying their instruments) in a mine lake for "Race to the Sea." Add in their collaborations (for example, with World of Warships for this video and World of Tanks for "Steel Commanders" as well as Yarn Hub for their animated videos) and they produce high quality well-made music videos (often filmed by movie crews). But you should also check out their live performances which are high energy with lots of pyro and great crowd interaction. Highly recommend any of the live performances from the 2012 Polish Woodstock Festival (550,000+ Poles cannot be wrong).

Yes! Uprising (official live) on the Nuclear Blast channel is from the 2012 Polish Woodstock Festival. There is nothing quite like half a million Polish folks singing along about how their families fought the nazis.

@@ahuggie I was lucky enough to see Sabaton in Nashville in 2022. The venue only held 2200 instead of 550,000 but the concert had the same intensity, energy, crowd interaction, and excellent music. best concert I ever saw, and Epica opening was the cherry on top.

I am the same way. In every school I attended, History class was BORING. I never had a teacher who could make it interesting enough for me to hold my attention. If THIS was how History class was presented in my schools, those classes definitely would have gotten and held my attention! This band is GREAT!

The Bismarck was the last of giant warships and it survived about 8 / 9 days in the open Atlantic against the British who targeted it as it was a threat to British supply lines as it would have been a base for the submarine wolfpacks harassing the supply lines. After Bismarck and its sister ship Turpitz which spent most of the war in the Norwegian fjords avoiding the open seas naval thinking moved to having small warships and using aircraft carriers - as they could attach the enemy using aircraft not guns. The American-Japanese Battle of Midway was fought in 1942 without the ships ever seeing each other and that was the tactical approach from then on.

"Bismarck" was the famous Battleship of the German "Kriegsmarine" - feared by their enemies. It's said the end of the ship was a combination of ordered self-scuttling and enemy fire.

The "Bismarck" , and his sister ship "Tirpitz", were the 2 largest battleships ever built in Europe (250 meters long, 36 meters wide, and displacing more than 50.000 tones) and they were the pride of the kriegsmarine (Germany's militari navy) during Ww2. The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but he was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1400 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churcil who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 3 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive manuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed it. However, despite having all his guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at it) his armor was still mostly intact and the ship was still afloat. So the british launched another 4 torpedoes and he disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's excellent armor, and that Bismarck had been scuttled by his crew (although it should be noted that many historians believe that it would have eventually sunk due to the damage received). Of the 2200 men that served on it, only 114 survived. Copy, props to @willghezzi

If you want an awesome live song with Sabaton you should react to en livstid I krig (a lifetime of war) live Scandinavium Gothenburg. The album Carolus rex they had released during that time is about a part of Swedish history called the era of great power (stormaktstiden in Swedish) from when Sweden was a much bigger nation with ambitions of expanding. The album was released with both an Swedish and English version, the difference being that the Swedish one tells the story from our/a Swedish soldiers view while the English is more from an outsiders view. It is the Swedish version they played at that show so be sure the subtitles are on,I was at that show and all I can say is that you will not regret it.
