Guys that 58% stat really threw me for a loop. I believe I am still correct in that it was a misapplied figure from that study (link below) since it was mentioned right after quoting it and is such a related figure to that 0.42 low iron status number. But let me know if I am wrong and I will be happy to pin something. In the case of his video and my video just having one set of eyes on details like this before release can encourage mistakes. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3237230/

@@MarkusWaas i was biased once because i was not born vegan, so...needed an open mind to learn new things. As a psychology student, nobody is unbiased. Nutrition is a mistery science, in the sense that until very recently there weren't made a lot discoveries in nutrition. Nutritionists themselves are starting to admit that the information that they learn in college, along with the books they use, are very outdated, some have more that 40 years of age. That's a lot of non actualized information. Little by little a lot of nutritionists that are not conformed with what they learnt 20 years ago, are starting to learn new nutrition science, and they are starting to be vegan and recomend a good vegan diet.

It's your choice to identify as an alcoholic, but do consider that addictions often hide some deeper trauma which may be ameliorated in other ways. We all like to self-medicate. Also, alcohol anonymous is bullshit, I hope you don't try to rely on that.

I find it quite an interesting channel, as a doctor we are taught we need fiber for regular stools, I never questioned this fact but because I stumbled on WIL video on the carnivore diet I decided to just give it a test and see what happens. And to my surprise this common held nutritional knowledge about fiber was completely wrong and my stool regularity and ease of passing improved greatly with the elimination of fiber, as well as all bloating, indigestion and reflux. I've actually never felt better in my life than ever before on the carnivore diet, so energetic, strong and I finally have a sixpack as a middle aged man, never had one before. Just give the carnivore diet a try for 90 days, 90 days won't do any harm, it won't give you any cardiovascular disease or cancer and after the 90 days you can always go back to whichever way you were eating although I doubt you would want to

Also, before being vegan: my bloodwork was showing up as pre-diabetic... despite eating tons of veggies and tracking all my macros. Now, that I’m vegan, my fasting glucose has dropped 12 points. Probably why vegans usually have pretty good levels of iron is that we focus a lot (at least us who try to eat healthily) on our protein sources that substitutes for meat. So we end up eating a lot of beans and nuts, which coincidentally are very high in iron.

I'll throw my own anecdote in here... It was years and years after being told I had low iron levels that I was finally diagnosed with severe anemia and B12 deficiency. I had flirted on and off with being pescatarian, vegetarians vegan. It wasn't until I committed to a well-balanced whole food plant-based vegan diet that my health showed dramatic improvements. Supplementation was necessary for a short time. Then I stopped taking the supplements months before my regular blood tests, which no surprise showed quite normal and healthy levels for everything and continue to do so for several years now.

Great video! Can you please make a video on Abbey Sharp? Her online dietary advice for vegans are very sloppy and not accurate. She makes it seem that a vegan diet is deficient but she doesn’t mention the essential nutrients neither on a standard western diet like folate nor on the vegan diet. A diet low in folate can lead to birth defects. Fiber is also a concern on a standard western diet. Vegans are just a minority. I don’t know why a omnivorous dietician is so obsessed with us...

I’ve been vegan 4 years now and my iron stores did drop over the time period to almost being anemic. My doctor prescribed me iron tablets that I’ve been taking. I still need to go back to get my iron retested. I try to eat whole foods plant based and I ate already a lot of lentils, spinach and other high iron foods (and with vitamin c). I do want to mention that I have been told in my past when I was younger that my iron levels were low (when I was vegetarian). I’m also a woman so we require more iron than men. But, I don’t think I had an issue with my iron stores when I ate meat. I think some people just have a harder time absorbing non-heme iron. Because of my history, I’ve since gotten a cast iron skillet. I am in no way supporting eating meat, but I am unfortunately one of those cases that did have my iron stores deplete since going vegan and I have chosen to supplement with vegan iron tablets.

I pointed out the Heme iron dangers which just didn't seem to register, but he was really busy and was extremely impressive in all other areas. @@lukebroadus1816 Your argument wasn't based on any facts either. Mother nature doesn't "want" us doing anything. By the same logic, she doesn't "want" us wearing clothes and communicating through the fucking internet. Hell, she probably doesn't "want" us cooking things either. Yet here we are. If there is a more efficient, easier and cheaper method to obtain a certain nutrient, why not take advantage of it? Who cares if it doesn't exist in nature? Nothing about our collective daily routines exists in nature. So why are you so hung up on supplements? Your microtoxins comment has no basis in reality either. So what exactly am I supposed to be replying to? I'd rather follow the science. I'm not even vegan btw. I just think people who lash out on vegans, especially those who use "nature" as an excuse are silly. And that's what this reaction to veganism is: lashing out. A purely emotional, non-fact based regurgitated reaction. Hence, NPC meme. Damn, it's not fun once you explain it.
@lukebroadus1816
@lukebroadus1816 4 жыл бұрын
Hellene_On_Caffeine I don’t understand how you can say my argument was not based on facts when it is a fact that a majority of the plants on this earth do not contain B12 and it’s debatable as to whether or not the one of the only beneficial reasons for eating plants is the micro toxins. And that’s not quite the same logic so find a better example, plants are nature they contain toxins so things won’t eat them. By that logic though you can assume the plants which are part of nature don’t want you to consume them. However, animals don’t contain those defense mechanisms. We are also part of nature our bodies want to do certain things like obtain nutrients, survive, etc, so I’m not sure what you mean by nature doesn’t want us to do anything. And what science are you following? Because there’s conflicting research about vegan vs meat eating. Also b-12 does exist in nature, it exist in animals lol. You sound like a real NPC right now.

One example is taurine. This enigmatic amino acid is one of the most plentiful in the human brain, where it’s thought to underpin several important processes, such as regulating the number of neurons. It’s often added to caffeinated energy drinks, because of the (possibly mistaken) belief that it can provide an immediate cognitive boost. Though there are small amounts of taurine in some dairy products, the main dietary sources are meat and seafood. “Some species have the ability to make all the taurine they need,” says Jang-Yen Wu, a biomedical scientist at Florida Atlantic University. “But humans have a very limited capacity to do this.” For this reason, vegans tend to have less taurine in their bodies. No one has looked into how this might be affecting their cognitive abilities yet, but based on what we know about its role in the brain, Wu says vegans should be taking taurine tablets. “People can become deficient when they restrict their diets, because vegetables have no taurine content,” he says. In fact, the holes in our current understanding of what the brain needs to be healthy could potentially be a major problem for vegans, since it’s hard to artificially add a nutrient to your diet, if scientists haven’t discovered its worth yet.
