People seem to forget Meath had better team, better manager, better midfield, better forwards and won more titles. That Meath won 2 All Irelands that Tyrone team won 0 All Irelands. That Tyrone team didn't beat any top teams in Ireland at the time especially outside Ulster. Meath team beat all the top teams in Ireland in championship they defeated kerry Tyrone Armagh Cork and Dublin. That Meath beat Dublin 4 times in 5 years in championship. That Meath team was managed by one of the best manager ever, Sean Boylan. It had best full back in Ireland in 90s, Darren Fay who was first choice full back on Irish rules international team for years. It also had one greatest defenders of all time in Martin O Connell. Martin O Connell is one of the few defenders ever to win Footballer of the year, O Connell was voted greatest left half back ever to play the game on team of Millenium. McDermott who put on exhibition of high fielding v Tyrone was one of the best midfielders in Ireland at time. Meath forward line at the time is one of the best in last 25 years with Graham Geraghty Trevor Giles Tommy Dowd Ollie Murphy Evan Kelly Brendan Reilly. Trevor Giles is only ever two time Footballer of the year along with Brian Fenton. At his peak he was best footballer in Ireland. Graham Geraghty was awesome in that semi final scoring 1- 3 from play in one of the best individual performances of the 90s. He is one of few players ever to win All star as defender and forward. He is one of the most talented footballers of last 25 years. Ollie Murphy at his peak was best corner forward in Ireland. Tommy Dowd was one best forwards in Ireland in mid 90s winning 4 All stars in 1994 1995 1996 and one in 1991. Evan Kelly was all star wing forward and Brendan Reilly was all star full forward and was outstanding in 96 97. Reilly scored 5 pts from play in semi final in 96 and 5 pts from play in final including the winner in the final. Reilly long scoring points v Tyrone were outstanding Meath did the same thing to Armagh and kerry in All-Ireland semi finals as they did to Tyrone at the time. Playing outstanding football, when that Meath team was in the mood they played great attacking football. That Meath team beat Tyrone by 9 pts in 96 semi final, beat great Armagh team of 00s by 5 pts in 99 semi final and beat great kerry team by 15 pts in 01 semi final. That kerry team included Maurice Fitzgerald Dara Cinneade Dara O Se Tomas O Se Seamus Moyihnan. Mick O Connell kerry footballer was voted midfielder on team of Century and team millenium. He is considered one of the most stylish skilful footballers ever. He said at the time Meaths performance v Tyrone in 96 was football performance of 90s up to that. Meath were awesome in that semi final just like they were in 01 semi fin were they gave kerry their biggest defeat in championship in 130 years. Thst Meath team had some best footballers in Ireland at the time eg Darren Fay Martin O Connell John McDermott Graham Geraghty Trevor Giles Ollie Murphy Tommy Dowd. There was 3 late challenges but you would see ten times more challenges in Ulster Mackenna Cup game. But peoppe forget John McDermott high fielding, and long range 30 m 40 m points from play, and of Graham Geraghtys swashbuckling man of the match performance, which is one greatest performances by player from leinster in All Ireland semi final ever. Overall Meath team were a better team with better manager better midfield better forward line and won more titles. Two time All Ireland champions are better than team with 0 All Irelands, that's not an opinion that's a fact.
