I got to visit Medellín, Colombia and had the chance to meet a lot of amazing people there. This little street interview shares some of the questions I got to ask them: what's your favorite language? How many languages do you speak? What do you like about Colombian Spanish? And what's the best and worst part about learning another language?

What's been the best and worst part of learning a new language? 🧠

The best part is when you find out that yo're understanding native speakers s conversations and the worst part is that you have to pay for almost all courses 😅 and i have no money so

hey @Jerry, love your videos! I just recently started learning mandarin, using "comprehensible input" method, through a teacher. She also makes youtube videos, Comprehensible Chinese is her channel. Finding people to speak with is the hardest part. Language reactor (I learned about from your channel!) is great, but very difficult to get working well with mandarin. ChatGPT is great too, but also for mandarin very difficult to get working with pinyin/speaking, etc. This is by far the most challenging part! Looking for local groups to speak chinese, or trade my own skills and tutoring in programming python/SQL for speaking time :)

@@maria-fp6pz So true! Such a good feeling when you start to understand and can have conversations. And I agree we should make sure language learning is accessible 🙏🏽

@@maria-fp6pz Paid courses are not really necessary in my experience (some people do better with a set structure though), the money worth spending is the cost of online conversation classes if you don't have access to many different native speakers. Free language exchange apps can be fun and somewhat useful but most people can't really teach you much, especially if they are beginners in your language, plus you have to spend half the time speaking your native language so that doesn't help with immersion.

this video is confusing. the title is "what languages do you speak" but in the video they tell you which languages they like. its no the same thing. if you're making a video, stick to the theme

people like to answer with stereotypes. plus, cultures which are less developed and know less about the world or less open tend to answer with more cultural similarities - thats why romance languages are often liked by people who speak one. More open people tend to answer more individual and outside of the own language group. That English is often mentioned is due to the fact that even stupid people without much knowledge know usually that English is THE global language. Smart people answer usually more pragmatic and with more knowledge. For instance in Europe German is after English the most spoken language in the EU and in the most wealthy dominant center (Germany, Switzerland, Austria etc.). Apart from that people often just like a language due to what they used to like due to movies, series etc. (for instance Japanese due to Manga) ....
