So true, but I asked repeatedly why? We never had a " mental problem" before. I think it's our society today having no personal responsibility anymore. Look at the people today, it's always others fault, they fail in something. My state hasn't banned anything " yet" but more people from California are moving in, so it's a matter of time. I own a AR15, and others they want banned, why just because they think they are bad, but who's telling them that? Well it's the media, school teachers, colleges, and politicians.

Not just because of this video but in general I've noticed this; Hickok45 has the biggest heart of any person with a gun related KZfaq channel! I'm serious! One of the few channels I can tune into even on a long long day! One might think its a "useless" characteristic but hes got a great heart and an awesome taste in guns and dry humor that everyone loves!

But that's the point. If you have drunk driving tickets, you shouldn't be able to drive anymore because you're going to kill someone. If you had assault charges or a violent past, you should be able to own a gun because you're probably going to kill someone. That's hiding the individual accountable.

Boiling Bass Making things illegal takes it away from the hands of the law abiding citizen and puts it in the hands of the criminals. My favorite non gun example is marijuana, Colorado saw a 14-15% drop in crime after it was legalized, state revenue went up $11 mill. I don't smoke MJ because, honestly, I have no time for it, I'm waaaay to busy to even sit for more than 1hr but thems some serious results. I think the modern so called "bad cop" is a result of either corruption or a result of bad mandates in combination with a bad public image trends.
@Boilingbass
@Boilingbass 9 жыл бұрын
True! Plus if guns were illegal, and someone really wanted to get their hands on a gun, they still could. It's not impossible and the people who think that making guns illegal will help are just crazy. Like it was said in the video, how do you stop a bad guy with a gun? A good guy with a gun. If you see some guy robbing a place and he has a gun and he's shooting people, most people will call the police because they have gun. I really hate how people wait to be a victim before they are willing to do something

You sir are a scholar and a gentleman. It's nice to see someone who speaks about any issue, and this one is a sensitive one, without a sense of ego or judgment. It's refreshing to see someone speak about any issue without pretending to know all the answers. Debaters from any side of any argument who preach from the top of their high horse who "have all the answers" are annoying. You offer insight into a culture without ridiculing anyone who does not understand it. You're not a pretentious advocate or politician judging people for their ignorance of a particular culture. You are educating and offering insight, and not enough people on KZfaq or in the world like you exist. Well done sir.

I have to agree. Sorry to disappoint people, but I actually do NOT smoke weed at all. That said, I find it interesting that many of the same people who preach about too much government intrusion when it comes to restricting gun rights and such are the very same people who would ban a pretty harmless plant, trying to protect people from themselves, I suppose? Funny that they cannot muster up any enthusiasm to ban alcohol, which actually DOES do some harm, even though it's not the alcohol; it's the irresponsible people drinking it.

I have seen the destruction caused by alcohol and pot, both lead to harder drugs for some people, my problem with legalizing pot is the impression it will have on our young people, more of them will try it and have problems with it if it is legal, it is the same with alcohol, but where do you stop? I don't have the answer. Really, if you want kids to think something is weird or bad, just keep them away from it, but don't make it a mystery to them, curiosity is a good thing, it's how we learn. Good luck with all these pro and con issues. I'm on the young people's side.

I know this is an old video, but I just watched it today. Recently a lot was made in the media about a shooting range in Florida that allows children as young as 13 (under close supervision) shoot many different guns. This video, along with that media coverage really has gotten me thinking. I believe that a lot of the negative or passive feelings about guns in America comes from lack of exposure to firearms. I think what we really need is more shooting ranges, more shooting sports events, more media coverage of that. When those who enjoy shooting sports are not seen as some freak fringe, then we can begin to have a rational discussion about firearms. The media bias and even the passive stance of many people is largely due to misconceptions.

The events that unfolded at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown Connecticut became a seminal moment in my life. I was not new to guns. However, after that event I took my first CCW class in January 2013, purchased my Springfield Armory XD Subcompact 9mm in February 2013 and received my CCW permit in April of 2013. If there are people in this society that can point a rifle at the head of a 5 year old child, then we are all in trouble. We are free people and we are all responsible as individuals for the safety of ourselves, our families and especially our children. I can't help but wish that there had been a good guy with a gun in that school that day. Thank you Hickok45.

Complete agreement with you. As a member of the gun culture for a long time, i know what happens to the human head when its shot with a rifle, in comparison too a average size pistol. I'm reminded every time I see a melon shot, with a rifle. I'm saying this just for the fact that maybe outlawing pistol's or magazine capacity won't have the life saving impact they think it would. (Unfortunately i live in New York) I know of one case, where a man was shot 9 times, with a 9mm and lived. If your shot with a lever action, pump, bolt action 308. 4-5 times. Your going to die. It's just terrible, that this woman let her mentally challenged son, use these guns at all. I feel terrible for the parents, but just as bad for the first responders, or the people that had to clean up after these poor kids.

I'm not anti gun,or pro gun. But a man that acts,is a man that acts. It's about the toughts behind it. When I put a knife in my hand,there are many things,that I could do with it. My thoughts,will make it a tool of creation,or a tool of destruction. It's my friggin choice,what will happen next. And we are talking about a man,that is mentally screwed up. He can not make,that rational choice,so it becomes a extention of his destructive toughts. The gun is not guilty,HE IS! Crazy people will use whatever,they get their hands on. But some way of prevention,would be not a bad thing. Just let them do a firm mental test,before people buy a gun,or something. Just to be a little more safe.

A crazy man killed 3 people in a Casey's store with a hammer in my town some years back. We were practicing our music in a house 2 blocks away from the murders. He could have used a knife or a gun, but a hammer worked fine for him, since he was crazy. The next day, no one said anything about hammer control. They just said he was crazy. If one Casey's employee had a gun, maybe they could have killed him, instead of feeding him for 10 years while the system gets around to doing it.

I like guns quite a bit, but I wish there were stricter background checks (but not a ban on guns). You're right, it definitely is a psychological issue when considering the school shootings which get the most media attention, not even talking about the other THOUSANDS of deaths by illegally purchased firearms in gang shootings every year. But then it's a two front problem: the proliferation of illegal firearms and the lack of stricter background checks on legal firearms. But acknowledging that the former is a much more problematic (more deaths per year) issue than the latter doesn't excuse us from taking more steps to combat the latter as well. Part of it is insanity, but there's not always the most effective ways to combat insanity, and oftentimes most of the shootings that don't involve insane shooters are committed by normally sane people, so I think there should be stricter background checks in addition to better efforts for school counseling and getting people the psychological help they need, and in addition to that we need to find better ways to combat the massive proliferation of illegal firearms.
@hickok45
@hickok45 9 жыл бұрын
There IS no proliferation of "illegal" firearms. There's essentially no such thing as an "illegal" firearm. There are millions and millions more firearms in the U.S. than there were ten years ago, but ironically there are fewer deaths in which firearms are used. Thousands of guns are being made and sold every day, which is great, but there are no illegal guns, just a certain few individuals who commit illegal acts, sometimes with firearms. Guns are just guns, a legal product owned by over 100,000,000 Americans.

6236003 Well the thing is that in the hands of a military cooperation or a licensed individual, like a class III dealer, it's not illegal for them to possess. As such, the guns specifically mentioned are not illegal, but are being illegally owned/possessed by people who are not licensed nor allowed in such a way. Even explosives are not "illegal" they are just illegally possessed by the gangs. The problem is the phrase, "Illegal guns" is an incorrect and a contradictory statement to the entire purpose of what the phrase is designed to imply. Colion Noire also said that the moment we associate guns with illegal and unlawful things, we associate guns as an illegal object of harm.
@akuxan8461
@akuxan8461 9 жыл бұрын
I understand, I'm just saying that hickok45 is right when he says there are no illegal guns, because that object just simply doesn't exist. Any object that is illegal isn't illgeal in itself, it's the possession of the object that is illegal. In the case of guns, those specific guns and explosives were LEGALLY being possessed by the police in an evidence locker correct? So therefore they are legal when possessed by specific people for specific reasons. Even if they were smuggled in and are not compliant with that rediculous law, they are still legally possessed by the police agency that confiscates them. In this light then, no gun is ever "illegal", they can be illegally owned or used for illegal things but they are never illegal by the fact of existing.

Loaded Xan 6236003 hickok45 I understand what you guys mean when you say there's no such thing as an "illegal firearm", just firearms that are owned illegally. However, that's more of a semantics issue for me than anything, because I think most people are aware that they actually mean a firearm that is owned illegally when using the misnomer "illegal firearm". Anyway, plenty of antis are very concerned about safety and violence reduction, and I don't think Leland Yee's actions represent what everyone else feels (this is the same guy who's against video games because he claims they correlate to higher violent crime). But disregarding the mass shootings which oversaturate the media and gun-related "crimes of passion" which are homicides committed through legally owned firearms which also make up a very low percentage of gun related homicides, there's still the thousands of deaths that occur each year from illegally owned firearms, which are acquired through loopholes in background checks or at gun shows, or which are more commonly acquired through criminal, but licensed gun dealers. Why doesn't anyone want to discuss ways to solve that since it accounts for the majority of gun-related deaths? They even contribute indirectly to "legal" homicides by police, a force which emphasizes an us-against-them ideology and which enforces the policy that because there's such a relatively high chance for a suspect to be armed, an officer should also be armed and ready to pull the trigger -- something that's resulted in a number of unnecessary deaths. So why is there rarely more being done to combat illegally owned firearms? While of course getting rid of the socioeconomic disparities in many sections of cities such as Detroit is hugely important for reasons including and outside of gun violence, such reforms seem unrealistic within a short period of time -- at least, compared to the amount of time it would take to crack down on illegally owned and sold firearms.
@hickok45
@hickok45 9 жыл бұрын
6236003 Nope, just people who are possessing it illegally, often due to location. Same with some drugs now - only illegal in certain hands and/or certain locations. Virtually any firearm could be possessed legally or illegally, depending on the person and the location. I think it's important to keep the emphasis on how an inanimate object really possesses no ethical qualities, as it just makes it so much easier for the anti-freedom / anti-gun folks to deem an object taboo and keep the focus on steel and wood instead of "bad" people.

I always said "You cannot argue against fact with opinion." and that is what these anti-gunners always do. They say gun control is the best way on this earth to reduce the crime rate.. but California, New York, Illinois.. all have the harshest gun control laws in the nation, and have the highest crime rates in the entire United States. These anti-gunners seriously try to argue against fact with opinion, and I don't see how they even got as far as to propose the assault weapons ban without knowing a single thing about firearms. In one of Obama's speeches after he lost the Assault Weapons Ban he said that 90% of Americans supported it, that only a small group of gun owners stopped it. Polls showed that more than 70% of people were AGAINST ANY sort of additional restriction on firearms, 20% thought that perhaps there should be slightly more restriction, less than 6% supported the entire assault weapons ban as a whole, 4% actually thought all guns should be banned. It's clear that the facts won against opinion regardless of how hard Obama or Bloomberg try they cannot beat fact with opinion. I used to never vote, I used to stay completely out of politics but now I encourage everyone I know to go out and vote and contact your representatives so that you know the constitution is being represented properly. I will vote for the candidates that support the second amendment, that respect our constitution.. I suggest you all do the same. After all, even these anti-gun politicians swore and oath to defend the constitution against ALL enemies foreign.. AND domestic when they entered office. I think that asking these politicians to follow the oath which they swore to when they entered office.. is really not that much to ask of them. I don't understand these politicians that do defy our constitution, regardless of their oath. To me that is truly evil and dishonorable, disrespectful and vindictive towards our constitution and those politicians need to be voted out quick. ALWAYS support and uphold our constitution, vote for your rights.. Vote for the constitution. Vote for the representatives that respect our constitution and most importantly our second amendment. The time to sit by and let things pass is over, we need to stand up and speak.

Life long liberal here. The gun control issue is a losing one for liberals. They don’t seem to realize it isn’t only conservatives who own guns. People of all backgrounds and philosophies own firearms. I’m not straight, I’m not Christian, I’m not conservative. How can I say I believe in the constitution when it comes to freedom of speech, marriage equality, abortion, etc. but not the second amendment? It’s hypocritical. I used to be on the “gun control bandwagon”. I wondered why people love guns so much, why do they fight so hard to keep these tools of death?!?! And then I did something novel; I decided to go shooting. I figured I should see the “culture” and the actual object of that “culture” up close and personal if I was going to be so against it. After that first time shooting, I was hooked. I was 20 then. I was more excited to turn 21 so I could go to the range by myself than I was to get legal booze. When I turned 21 I bought my first gun and I just recently got my second. I plan on owning a lot more. I didn’t have a hobby before I went shooting that first time and now I do. I wish more liberals would open their minds and see how special shooting can be. Guns don’t have to be and are not exclusively for killing.

Thanks for sharing that. Sometimes I even grow weary of hearing about "gun culture" or "gun community." Firearms are so mainstream among every demographic of society; it's almost like identifying an "iPhone Culture" or "pickup truck culture" or "TV watching culture."

Your “us vs. them” attitude will not solve anything. Most of the disagreement on this issue comes from misunderstanding. Gun grabbers have no use for guns, so they can’t understand why people fiercely protect that right. It’s not that difficult to respectfully give your point of view, despite your claims. Some people you’ll never convince, but you can still lay out a well reasoned argument. Combative/antagonistic stances like yours solve nothing.
