I'm just too used to the concept of female super soldiers, not just from lore outside of 40k like female spartans in Halo, but also female super soldiers in 40k itself, to find the inclusion of a single female custodian at one point in the lore to be that lore breaking. Honestly, I think primaris marines are a more significant change in the lore. A female custodian is going to look and behave the exact same as a male one when they're in their armor, so I don't see the issue.
