DEPARTURE: American 2508, Regional Departure, radar contact.
AAL2508: Departure, American 2508.
DEPARTURE: Yes, sir.
AAL2508: Yes, sir, we’re gonna declare an emergency at this time for medical. We need to turn back around and come in to land.
DEPARTURE: American 2508, roger, amend your altitude, maintain 6000 and fly heading 355.
AAL2508: 355, for American 2508, 6000 and if you could let our company know please, we need medical assistance when we land.
DEPARTURE: Yup, do you have an idea…? I imagine you have no idea what gate you would want, right?
AAL2508: I have no idea.
DEPARTURE: Alright, and do you prefer the east or the west side of the airfield?
AAL2508: Let’s try for the west side. That’s where we left from.
DEPARTURE: American 2508, roger, expect RW 18L.
AAL2508: Expect 18L, American 2508.
AAL2508: And for American 2508, confirm that was 355 on the heading and down to 6000?
DEPARTURE: American 2508, descend and maintain 5000.
AAL2508: Descend and maintain 5000. Confirm the heading, for American 2508.
DEPARTURE: 360 heading now.
AAL2508: Alright, 360 heading, American 2508, thanks.
DEPARTURE: I believe RW 18L may be shortened.

AAL2508: Alright, 18R, American 2508, thanks.
DEPARTURE: American 2508, contact Regional Approach 118.42.

AAL2508: We’re getting it right now, American 2508.
APPROACH: American 2508, descend and maintain 3000.
AAL2508: Roger, descend and maintain 3000, for American 2508.
APPROACH: American 2508, another question for you, will you be overweight, when you land.
AAL2508: No, we will not, American 2508.
APPROACH: American 2508, I’m sorry, you said negative?
AAL2508: Correct, negative, we will not be overweight?
APPROACH: American 2508, caution wake turbulence from heavy 787, 2 o’clock in 5 miles, at 3000, southbound. Let me know if you get it in sight.

AAL2508: 090, for American 2508.
APPROACH: American 2508, turn right heading 150, intercept 18R localizer.
AAL2508: Say the heading again, American 2508.

THE VALUE OF THIS VIDEO:
THE MAIN VALUE IS EDUCATION. This reconstruction will be useful for actual or future air traffic controllers and pilots, people who plan to connect life with aviation, who like aviation. With help of this video reconstruction you’ll learn how to use radiotelephony rules, Aviation English language and general English language (for people whose native language is not English) in situation in flight, which was shown. THE MAIN REASON I DO THIS IS TO HELP PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND EVERY EMERGENCY SITUATION, EVERY WORD AND EVERY MOVE OF AIRCRAFT.
SOURCES OF MATERIAL, LICENSES AND PERMISSIONS:
Source of communications - www.liveatc.net/ (I have a permission (Letter) for commercial use of radio communications from LiveATC.net).
Map, aerial pictures (License (ODbL) ©OpenStreetMap -www.openstreet...) Permission for commercial use, royalty-free use.
Radar screen (In new versions of videos) - Made by author.
Text version of communication - Made by Author.
Video editing - Made by author.
HOW I DO VIDEOS:
1) I monitor media, airspace, looking for any non-standard, emergency and interesting situation.
2) I find communications of ATC unit for the period of time I need.
3) I take only phrases between air traffic controller and selected flight.
4) I find a flight path of selected aircraft.
5) I make an animation (early couple of videos don’t have animation) of flight path and aircraft, where the aircraft goes on his route.
6) When I edit video I put phrases of communications to specific points in video (in tandem with animation).
7) Together with my comments (voice and text) I edit and make a reconstruction of emergency, non-standard and interesting situation in flight.

On an AA flight from DFW to SAN I fell unconscious when we reached altitude for a few minutes. When I came to, I had lost my stomach. It was quite a mess. The flight crew was kind, compassionate, and really helped me get cleaned up as well as the cabin. needless to say I was horribly embarrassed. American Airlines pinned the ears back on that flight and got me home. Its hard to express my gratitude to the flight crew, and express my apologies to the other passengers

Well done, all around! The passenger who fell sick most likely will not remember anything after taking off. When the seizure ended, he/she probably "woke up" back at the gate, confused as to why a small medical team was tending to him/her. The quick response of all involved kept things from possibly getting much worse, and provided for proper medical care in a very timely manner. Hopefully, the patient will recover quickly and be able to resume their trip soon. Again awesome job done by the cabin crew, pilots and controllers!

I love the professionalism, except for the fat shaming of that 787 by constantly calling it a 'heavy'. That's uncalled for in this day and age.

@@Shwoop I’m a controller here, although neither of those were me. He was originally offered 18L due to it being closer to the gates. However, 18L currently has a displaced threshold and some equipment issues that make it unsafe for arrivals. They only depart off it. That’s why he was given 18R, the closest runway to the gate and immediately cleared to cross 18L upon landing.

In a situation like this, would they need to get the fuel topped off to the previous takeoff level? And if so, would the passengers need to get off the plane during fueling?
@kenknowles51
@kenknowles51 2 жыл бұрын
They would need to maintain their minimum fuel requirements for departure as normal (although for a 15-20 minute circuit they might still be within their margins). Aircraft can be refuelled with passengers aboard albeit usually with special procedures e.g. seat belt signs off and cabin crew manning exits.

Possibly they still had enough fuel to continue. It would depend on what their fuel status was relative to "minimum takeoff fuel" on their release. Sometimes we carry or tanker fuel to destination because it's cheaper than buying fuel at the destination for the next leg. This isn't extremely common, but it's possible that "release" fuel can be way higher than "minimum takeoff fuel". It would also be up to the dispatcher and pilots to concur with any of these decisions. A bigger problem is that the aircraft may be overweight, and that would require an inspection. In either case, the whole process isn't nearly as fast as you might think. The bag of the passenger needs to be found and removed, possibly maintenance items dealt with (if they used medical oxygen or items from the medical kit, bio cleanup, etc). Depending on the length of time for these items, they may deplane the passengers. All in all, I would say all this could normally take no more than an hour on the ground. With the air return, you are looking at a 90 minute late I'm guessing minimum. It's never fun. But in these situations where passengers are dangerously sick, having a severe medical event, it's a lot quicker to get them back on the ground that if you are up at altitude and not nearly as close to a suitable airport. It's pretty clear that DFW would be extremely well equipped in all aspects.

What does fallow the heavy mean ?
@YouCanSeeATC
@YouCanSeeATC 2 жыл бұрын
A heavy airplane, as classified by the FAA, is any airplane with a maximum takeoff weight of 300,000 pounds or more. If an airplane has a maximum takeoff weight of 300,000 pounds or more, it’s classified as a heavy airplane. But A380 is classified as (Super)

This whole “getting a gate” thing must be the most frustrating part of American aviation. It just seems to be a totally pointless extra level / step in operating to an American airport.
