Medical Termilogy is the language used to describe procedures, anatomical structure conditions, processes and treatments. This is the appropriate means of communication between provider of all disciplines.
Root words: derive from Latin or Greek words. It is the main subject that it's being referred to. It is the core word of the subject being talked about. A prefix or suffix can be added to the root word.
Prefix: Goes at the beginning of the word. It gives the description, or meaning to the root word.
#=Mono means 1. Bi=2, Tri=3, Poly=many
Speed= Tachy means fast. Brady=slow
Location= Epi= around, Intra=within, Inter=between
Movements: Ab=away, Add=to add to
colors= Leuko=white, Erythro=red, Cyano=blue, Chloro=green
Suffix: is added at the end of the word to describe the condition of the root word.
Algia=pain
Ology=the study of
Ectomy=to cut out or remove
Otomy=incision, to cut into (not remove)
Scopy=to examine
Pathy=disease
