The issue is they have no real mechanism for deferentiating between pill mills and legit pain doctors, because even the best pain management doctors have a good percentage of addicts as patients. I take my mom to pain management and watch the other patients. About half look like the type of people I partied with before I got serious about sobriety. Doctors aren't nearly as good at spotting them as they think.

Due to crackdown from DEA on all Drs prescribing & they are afraid of losing their license. I have never abused my medicine, Never, in fact I was overprescribed medication . I never took my meds other than prescribed nor failed a urine tox screen in 15+ years. I had breakthrough medication for really bad times & rarely used it. It is totally absurd that it took me 25+ years to get diagnosed with multiple herniated discs & Hubby was diagnosed & treated in less than 6 months. I Tried everything from PT, Water PT , OT, Massage , Chiropractic care, tens unit etc.. This was prior to having to have surgery which failed. Sad

During most of my youth, my mother was ill and mostly bedridden with untreated pain from multiple painful conditions that can't be fixed. I had to physically fight her, as a kid, to stop her from doing something to stop the pain that I don't know if I'm allowed to say in YT comments. Over a decade ago a doctor prescribed the infamous Purdue opioid. I think it saved her life because it got her out of bed and exercising, doing gardening intense enough I can't keep up with her. He dosage hasn't increase beyond the initially prescribed amount. She doesn't seem high or loopy. We agree she probably is physically addicted by now, but at 77, so what? Never in my wildest dreams did I think she would this long and in pretty good shape considering. I agree that Purdue did awful things to a lot of people and those people deserve justice; but in our zeal to do right, I hope it isn't forgotten that for some fraction of humans, such strong drugs might literally extend their lives and greatly improve quality of life. Mom's doctor will be retiring soon and we both worry the scandal will have made it essentially impossible to continue getting that medication.

The hardest thing being a pain patient is I am constantly reduced to mental health issues. My husband knows me very well and knows Im not depressed, I am injured. I live in AZ and the laws here are very against opioids. I'm praying that my “new” doctor on Monday listens. It’s my 2nd time seeing her and I didn't realize she manages pain and has for 24 years. She's a real DO/MD. I recently realized Ive been receiving care from a non MD/DO facility run by a Physical Therapist (because there's no instruction guide to the medical system) anddoctors are limited by AZ laws but they want your money. So they don't tell you there are options. Everyone tells you to advocate for yourself but due to opidiood bias most doctors want nothing to do with opioids. When I’m trying to explain, I NEED HELP! They hearthen assume, “yes she needs mental help!” When my anxiety is always a response to medical PTSD. I'm a multiracial, female, that has medical pTsD. I am only triggered in medical settings because I've been abused by medical professionals. It’s insane.

Since having been diagnosed stage 4 cancer (age 43), the palliative nurses will phone doctors to sort medication if I'm struggling.... ...... Prior to being recognised as stage 4 cancer, really struggled to get adequate pain relief, as the mystery pain was a mystery and I wasn't believed in how bad it was. Doctor, I am a chronic pain patient. I’ve had a horrible time getting continuous medication. I’ve had 10 orthopedic surgeries as well as SI fusions, spinal stimulator placement etc etc etc. I also have depression/anxiety/MS/pernicious anemia/lymphocytic colitis. I am 59. I don’t have an abuse/addiction issue. I have occasionally felt like giving up. (No plan etc). I found an IV Ketamine clinic near me (Florida). After 6 treatments I was able to put my wheelchair away and use arm crutch(s). It works. I am not cured. Not even close. But it gave me some of my life back. I’m not able to get any opioids to help me with the chronic pain in my knee which is deformed by arthritis. Pain is just part of my life. I will be able to get help when I have my knee replacement surgery on the 23rd of July. I have been putting it off since I had a hip replacement after being denied surgery in March 2020 due to the pandemic for 2 months. Doctors will not consider prescribing it for any reason. I have needed pain medication since I ran out of the medication for my hip surgery. It’s like doctors are only trying to cover themselves from prosecution more than care for their patients. I am not addicted to opioids because I have had several surgeries from trauma and had no difficulty with stopping taking them. Those who are addicted have no control over taking drugs and take measures to procure them illegally. Doctors have taken the rap for addiction deaths that were not the result of their prescription. I am so anxious to get my knee replaced. I’m 70 years old.

This is weird because when I've had surgeries, 5 knee and 1 abdominal, they will not let me go home without some form of opioid, even though I won't take them because they make me sick. By my last one surgery I was very aware of what I needed to manage pain but they still sent me home with a bottle of Percocet. After my hysterectomy my pain was 100% from pelvic floor muscle spasms but they wouldn't give me muscle relaxers. Instead they have morphine and/or fentanyl? I get injections in my pelvic floor and the immediate pain is from muscle spasms, yet they give narcotics instead of the muscle relaxers I'm prescribed to take every night. I have to bring my own.

We need more patient education BEFORE they start opiates. Patients are left feeling that they are at war with their doctors, when in actuality doctors are caught in the middle. @@Steve-ev6vx that is a pretty judgemental statement. Opioids work very different for chronic pain and I can verify it's totally possible to have no effects like the " euphoria" and in fact it goes all to the pain and makes quality of life more normal. Everyone processes drugs different and some have a high tolerance or fewer receptors effected. It can increase quality of life and have no side effects besides constipation, in fact normalizes life and gets people up out of bed. If a medication helps someone for 9 years, to just take that away is cruel. It most certainly can not make people " high". And people who seek that "high" are ruining it for people who need pain relief.

These products are being sold in dispensaries. The LA times put out a recent, detailed article about this. Testing labs are being paid off to look the other way. It included the (popular) brand names and test results, so if you can convince her to make sure she isn't using any of them. She's still very young. Sometimes it takes a while before people are ready to stop using. Has she tried CBD oil rather than MC flowers? Could be worth a try, alleviate the anxiety without the "high". . At that age she's very influenced by her peers. Getting her into a support group where she meets peers who have the same goal, to change their behavior. Therapy might help too. I was like your daughterat the same age, my addiction issues stemmed from being S.A'd when I was a child/young teen. Has she anything like that in her past? Worth trying to find out why she's driven to avoid reality and life. She's still young, there is time and her brain is still forming. Often that's part of the issue- growing from child to adult is very hard for some people. I wish you both the very best of luck. Stick by her- the love you show her maintains trust and truthfulness. Do draw firm boundaries though, some behaviours do require consequences but be strategic about it. Negotiation can work wonders with the right communication. Maybe you could both attend a few sessions together with a counsellor to mediate the agreement. Be kind to yourself, it's very stressful on parents and the constant worry will wear you down. I know both sides of this- my youngest daughter started on the same path I was on, which of course is my greatest fear-(No cptsd fortunately, more bulemia/anorexia and cutting herself, which was absolutely heartbreaking). She's finally been diagnosed with bi polar/bpd, I am the same, same build, same personality type, as was my mother and her mother before her- all very similar re physiology and behaviour patterns. Do you know if there isany history genetically of mental instability in your family? It could also be worth doing a bit of testing to see if any base chemicals are messed up in her brain. Again, good luck to you both, netfriend. You will both make It, hang in there. Parenthood can be so damn hard sometimes. x Edit: realised you didn't state her age. May be a different situation if she's older, but most addicts are still hurt little kids inside, it's why we readily take things that stop us feeling so much.

Hyper Cannabinoid syndrome is a real thing. She went back to using weed even after that. I think you’re right she doesn’t want to deal with past issues. I have offered rehab, but her bf uses too. So I don’t think she would be successful at getting off it permanently. I’m frustrated, as I’m sure she is with me too. I try not to harp, but I do mention it on rare occasions that if and when she’s ready, I’ll take her to a facility to get clean. She says she’s not ready so I just back off. She’s stubborn too. I am a PhD NP and I have a pain management clinic for patients suffering from chronic pain. It is so difficult to get patients the medications they need for pain relief. I perform trigger point injections as a part of pain management, as these help reduce the pain; thus the narcotic medications work better. I am not a fan of oxycodone or OxyContin as a medication for chronic pain. I believe that many falsehoods were stated by drug reps, indicating that oxy would be a great narcotic for chronic pain. The long term use of oxy may result in kidney disease, liver failure, dementia, osteoporosis, and many other conditions that are so detrimental to the body. However, there are some instances in which oxy help patients suffering from cancer. 🙏🏻 Dr. B.

I see an NP at a pain clinic 💜 bless. It’s mostly for my medical marijuana card due to chronic back pain and muscle tension, because seeing my grandmother spend her last years on opioids for polymyalgia rheumatica and additional pain due to steroids steered me clear them. Threw out the pills after my bunionectomy. Finding a skilled massage therapist and being able to go regularly with help from family has greatly reduced my back pain. Between that and medical marijuana the pain itself is manageable. I still have functional impairment unfortunately, and neurologist options are not the best in Delaware. On Medicaid no less.

@@meliss4603 - ahhh! Bless you!!! Just today two of my sweet patients with your same diagnoses saw me. Trigger point injections definitely help them. I use a 50-50 mix of lidocaine and bupivicaine and inject it into the spasmodic muscles at the trigger point. It calms down the spasms considerably. I believe MJ helps a lot of people, so I don't despise it like a lot of pain management clinics do. However- I have severe asthma, and the aroma/residue of MJ on a patient triggers an asthma attack, so I ask my patients not to smoke it when they're coming to see me. The tinctures and oils don't trigger my asthma- so that is better to use. They're very considerate of my needs too. I personally have chronic pain myself, from a few different severe accidents in life. My entire spine and pelvis has been fractured, so the pain is throughout my body. I truly understand my patients' pain! I am also a Professor, so I do a lot of teaching with my patients so they'll understand their situation better. Bless you, and I appreciate you sharing your story! If you're willing, I will share your hope with my patients!! Always remember this: "Either you have pain, or PAIN HAS YOU." Thats what happened, so how does this doctor not even know it is a possibility? Doctors should actually do these drugs before reccomending them. They are always wrong about how they work. He also said bupenorphiene doesnt get you high! Got me way higher than morphine or oxy.

I was a promoter in the early 1990s NYC club scene, aka the "Club Kid" era. It was a wild time, very experimental. The fashions and trends that the scene put out there are still resonating today. One of those trends was Ketamine, which was 100% legal to possess before we got ahold of it. We had a Veterinarian who loved to hang out at Tunnel, and he was our plug, if you will. Even after this caused K (brand: Ketaset, almost always) to be illegal as powder, it was still legal as a liquid.

New subscriber here... I take buprenorphine for long-term chronic pain management, and have found that it helps a lot better than the traditional opioids/opiates such as oxycodone/hydrocodone, etc. The pain relief lasts hours longer than with those other short-acting medications and doesn't make me feel woozy/uncoordinated/nauseous. I take it by mouth sublingually though. I take the tablets because I kept getting the strips stuck to my teeth and once they're placed, they're not moving. lol. I was also prescribed Narcan, and the pharmacist told me I was able to use it on any person I suspected of overdosing so I try to carry it with me wherever I go because our homeless population is ridden with fentanyl addiction.

Listening to your introduction and as a former ICU, EU and theatre Nurse. I find I am just repeating my thoughts. What is he doing taking these seriously dangerous medications. We have seen this before with celebrities. Their personal Doctors prescribing or other source. Do people not understand the implications to their lives. I cannot get past that.

I had taken Effexor for depression for many years. Once my physician and I decided to switch to another medication for depression, the withdrawal process was very difficult.

I have chronic pain from RA and Felty's Syndrome. My Rheumatologist has told me, to my face, anyone looking at my x-rays would know I need opiates for pain control. Will she give me what I need? NO!! If I am in active treatment with the biologic I get the pain goes down. The biologic wastes my immune system on the B cell side. So when I have to rest my body from the biologic, Percocet does not control pain. Up until a couple years ago, I was being treated by a pain clinic and treated like a drug addict and I was mentally ill.

I was fortunate to be v referred to the hospital pain specialists, who are very diligent in the regulations surrounding the meds I’m on. I read and study all medications I am prescribed and will not take anything I’ve still got questions about. Long ago, I was given Rx meds by the college health center that left me with organic brain syndrome. Two of the four prescription medications I was prescribed were listed in the PDR as not to be prescribed together. The doc who gave them to me walked around as if he were dipping into his own Rx stash and the college docs didn’t need to write out Rxs and I requested my records immediately after I entered their clinic and again a year later, only to find my records had been altered. So the medical system has improved a lot since that time, but there’s so much more change needed.

I wish I had caught this when it was live. I struggle with severe depression and anxiety. Currently, I feel like I'm battling a server low. This video has me wondering so many other questions. -What do you do when gas lit by Dr? Going to the Clinic doesn't seem to have worked. - How do other treatments like Selite Ganglion Blocks play a role in this? Are they interchangeable or can you do both?

It took me a year to get off the Effexor. I still had brain zaps but it was double. Then I took LithCarb300 ER for 20 years and now have chronic kidney disease. I had lung cancer and had one lung and 4 partial ribs removed. I now struggle with knee bone on bone pain and am unsure if I'll survive a knee replacement with my comorbidities.

I’d like to say that i’m in the UK and we are so far behind you in terms of getting Ketamine for depression. Only certain places in the Country provide it so you have to live close enough to get it. But no one is really talking about it here. Again in the UK Mental Heatlh is on the back burner. Its virtually impossible to get counselling on the NHS. Sometimes i’m so ashamed of my own Country.

If a doctor didn't prescribe both the opioid and the ketamine, or they were taken in a dosage not prescribed or a method not prescribed (ie snorting instead of swallowing), or combined with alcohol when it clearly says not to, I don't see why the doctor should be at all at fault. And people like him are the problem in this world to where chronic pain patients can't get treated. I think doctors should be held accountable for suicides that are because of chronic pain that they refused to treat.

I’ve always had the opinion that I don’t care if medical staff agree with my lifestyle choices. I was a heroin addict for a number of years and am currently in a MAT program. I’ve always told doctors about what I’m taking even if it’s not prescribed. How can I expect them to make the best decisions if I withhold information? I’ve had doctors who had absolutely no sympathy or compassion and in those cases I just get a different doctor or I demand to see the doctors boss. Medical staff all took oaths and knew what they were getting into before they took their job so I have no problem holding them to task when necessary. We are the customer. Only by being 100% honest and creating an open dialogue can we expect medical staff to meet us half way.

My doctor doesn’t take me seriously. I’d have to be on fire to have my meds adjusted, I’d probably need a fireman with me to verify I was indeed on fire. I’m just trying to be pain free enough to work Regarding pharmacists, I just fired a pharmacy , they just didn’t care how much grief they caused me.

As sad as this may be Matthew Perry has struggled with addiction. Most of his life drug seekers will always find a way no one should be held responsible for this other than Matthew Perry and that applies to anyone who is drug seeking and overdoses, the blame needs to be put back on the individual that is using the drugs..

I’m a chronic pain patient with chronic health conditions and for over 15 years could never get my doctor’s to work together. Our healthcare system is broken and when it’s not working they should change the equation. It’s unacceptable what the DEA and CDC has done. The overdose rate has gone up 11 times. Nothing is being done except the DEA now has become PC warriors monitoring doctors and patients and pharmacies. Kids are now buying stuff and having it delivered to their house they think their getting a Percocet or Xanax but they end up dead due to the illegal fentanyl. To change these circumstances we need to allow doctors to prescribe again without fear so these patients can survive. I have been watching these fentanyl stories and it’s devastating families and friends.
