Fun fact: This video makes me sound like I have never seen a horse before, only vaguely read about them. Anyway...my plan today was to paint up a Rider of Rohan and then I realised in order to give you guys some variance with your units, it would be better to show you a few options for horse fur/hair/skin. Next week we'll put some riders on these guys and the final result will look a lot better!

Chaos Black
Grey Seer
FAQ:Adding a light spray of Grey Seer over a full coat of black primer adds a small amount of texture to the primer which gives the contrast paint more to grip on to. It also adds light and shadows which helps define the model more.

Don't worry, horses scare everyone! Hopefully this video helped, remember they'll look a lot better with the riders and when they're in units, so don't get too caught up in details. You got this.

Really loving Middle Earth Mondays, and a horse painting tutorial is always welcome! I think that in the books, it is stated that orcs steal Rohans horses, but only the black ones, so I guess in part that is the source of Nazgul horses? Also, Theodans horse (Snowmane) was white, so I sometimes wonder what a Royal Guard mounted on white horses would be like... Thanks again!

Keep it coming. I did a helpful build guide for these horses to make them a little more durable as they are sadly pretty fragile. I have close to 100 horses in my collection in a mix of painted, built and unbuilt. Have you trademarked Middle-Earth Monday? If not would it be OK to use it for my upcoming series? I just need to make a dozen or so individual trees for my woodland board.

Once again you've made it look so easy, the ones i painted when LotR was first released looked like they were done by someone who had never seen an actual horse before 😂. I think the real question we should be asking though is... where was Gondor when the Westfold fell?

They look nice Andy. I think I'd go a little further with some glazing, but regardless I like how simple the scheme in. Definitely gave me some ideas for my Straud on hell horse mini from DnD. Off topic, do you think you will ever do sanguinius ? I just finished building mine. Low key terrified to paint it tho 😂

Hi! Which primer is better for contrast? Grey seer or wraithbone?

I always use grey seer over chaos black, wraithbone is a lot lighter so contrast will show up brighter so it’s best to do a test depending on what tone you’re going for but 95% of the time grey seer will work for projects!

I'm supprised they don't update a lot of the LOTR range, I'm sure if they looked better a lot of people would pick them up for painting alone ( Seeing all the newer miniatures from both age of sigmar and 40k I know the level and tech they have now is much higher)

Yeah there are some newer models that are amazing for competition painting with the details they have now but I do wish the main range would get updated as well!

Hello. Greetings from Germany. Your videos are really helpful no matter if it is Warhammer 40k or Lord of the Rings. I paint both. I have finished my Angron recently and I was wondering If it is possible to get some feedback from you by any chance. I am painting since 3 years now. I am currently working on Lion El Johnson and your video was a big help. Keep up the great videos. Next week is Rohan on the painting table and this video will be helpful.
