I’ll second Martyn’s comment below. I’ve learned so much about the hobby from watching your videos and listening to your philosophy over the years. Thanks, keep growing

Thank you for another great upload, it such a pleasure listening to your thoughts and passions of your trees and the fact you make your trees to your own interpretation and not others, its so refreshing. I have just started out and watched so many or the so Called 'experts' and they seem to stick set ways. But your complete and fully immersive descriptions, has opened new doors ways on how I am planning the designs of the trees I have in progress. II have birch which is between 3-4 foot at the moment and is now ready for a first prune, which I collected a year and half ago. This video has given me some great idea and I can't wait for the next instalment of this tree. Well done and stay safe :)

Thanks Martyn. Welcome aboard. I always say my channel is a "this is what I do" rather than a " you should do this" channel but if you like any of my ideas help yourself. Be warned I have killed a few trees but unlike some channels I always show my failures too . Stay safe

Every time I see one of your videos, I want to go out and try your techniques on my trees. Love the development and final results on your birch. They have such grace. Hoping I won't butcher mine too bad lol - thankfully, they've been quite forgiving so far!

Thanks Sue. You may have seen that I have a Birch I am developing as a large tree. Forgiving isn't the word for that one. Contrary is more like it. I'm making a timey wimey video on that which wl be out later in the year. Stay safe

Hey mate thanks for the great videos- keep them coming, I'm enjoying some northern hemisphere summertime (even if it is an English summer!). Sorry to hear Cooper isn't doing so well. Stay safe.

That birch has some real good trunk movement I like it, leaves still a bit big but that’s birches for you. All the best Sid

What a lovely tree, great movement and taper in the trunk. Do you ever leaf prune or partially defoliate silver birch? Thank you.

Thanks Andrew. I have leaf pruned Birch with no problem to the health of the tree but found that the leaves that grew in were just as big as the ones I cut off if not bigger. Testament to how vigourous and tough these delicate looking trees can be. Removing a few of the larger leaves at a time seems to work better. Stay safe

What type of birch is it?

It is a self seeded tree that popped up in my garden a few years ago. It appears to be a Downy Birch. There are a lot of them around here but there are some Silver Birch about so it could be a cross. Stay safe
