Celebrating my new Božo with a performance of what I believe to be the most iconic piece ever recorded on one of these fabulous guitars. This is based on Leo Kottke's performance recorded in December of 1972 and included on the My Feet are Smiling record. I teach this medley on my Patreon, it would be wonderful if you could support my research there!

I've struggled with the Jack Fig part for years but watching your video has made it possible, thanks much.

The harmonics in "Crow River Waltz" were just nailed, man they sound good on the Božo. The middle section of Jesu is so beautiful and powerful. Jack Fig... well no words man....just pure quality.

I went to my local Karma Records store the day after seeing Leo for the first time. Wore several vinyl copies out and have kept the CD version with me for decades. I always loved watching people react to this.

This is stupendous Mr Lardner. The only thing missing is that raucous applause at the end. Which you deserve also by the way. I remember the eighties and nineties i would sit by my Dads tall speakers and play the live side of the double album. You have really mastered Kottke.

Brings back some great memories! Leo would often end his set with this medley or use it as the encore. Always brought'em to their feet. Great performance, Andy!

@@andrewlardner q - apart from the intro, is the Jack Fig arrangement any different to the Stropes arrangement?
@andrewlardner
@andrewlardner 4 ай бұрын
Yes quite a bit. That version is based on the way he played it in the early 80s, at that time a little more advanced and more of a standalone piece.

That’s got everything but that loud “splonk” from the version on “My Feet are Smiling”. Some of you newer listeners might not know what I’m talking about as it was largely eliminated during re-recoding but for those of you that listened to the original vinyl a lot will know what I mean. By god it’s note for note except for the splonk! I guess a case could be made for somehow including it as an auditory historical artifact but.... LOL. Thanks. It is fantastic.

I haven't listened to the vinyl in a while but there's a cough or something loud right after one of the harmonics that I thought would be funny to try to edit in. I ended up too overwhelmed at the end of the month to try to finish everything I wanted to do with this one.

Beautifully recorded and well-played. Can I ask what strings you are using? Leo used silk and steels early on, but those sound like medium bronze.
@andrewlardner

Playing around still to see what I like on this guitar. This recording was 80/20 .013-.058. I like silk and steels on the b45 because they are braced so light. I doubt they would be enough tension to drive the top on the bozo, though can’t rule out until trying.
