A big tip I can pay forward to fellow procrastinators: the first step I always do is promise myself I WILL NOT work on whatever my task is that day and ONLY do all preparation for it without actually starting work. This means I get everything I need ready, opening up tabs that I need to get the job done and planning out exactly what needs to be done to get it finished. Usually when I have it all laid out in front of me like that suddenly the task looks very small and manageable - and i then owe it to myself to complete on the task. This trick alone eliminates about 70% of my procrastination times. Kudos to Michael Kennedy's Success Method for this "mind trick" which works for me at least, I am working on the other mind hacks /gamifying to get my doctorate finished up

My best friend and I make deals with eachother to donate money to something we DO NOT want to support of we do not follow through. For example.. I was not going to the gym even though I wish I would. I made a commitment to go to the gym 3 days a week. If I do not go my best friend holds me accountable to donate $20 to the Trump re-election campaign. (I am NOT a Trump supporter). Needless to say I have not missed the gym once.

@NotCoolMan123 if it happens that all of your tasks are urgent and important, do what you can only do for a day. If some of those tasks could take long hours to finish it then so be it, just be focused. Control your mind and feelings as not to get overwhelmed with other tasks because you'll only become afraid and this can heavily affect your performance - worst part could be you'll never finish in time on what your working on. You don't need to finish all those tasks in a day if you can't ready do it, better to work on them one by one. But if your enemy is TIME and all of your tasks are urgent and important then you can't do anything. Your only option is to accept your mistake - let that duedate past, accept the consequence/s, of your mistake then after the "punshment" choose to gather yourself, recall what went wrong then after draw your conclusion.

Whenever I start procrastinating, it’s normally because I’ve become bored with the topic, it feels too challenging to accomplish to the standard I expect of myself, or the reward associated with it - a good grade - seems unattainable. To battle this, particularly in anatomy, I turned studying via reading and writing notes into drawing diagrams of the body and connecting ideas; making mind maps to help summarise concepts, and sometimes tables to compare characteristics. The really helpful thing was to change learning modes from passively listening to lecture recordings and taking notes, to actively challenging myself to question what was important from that lecture, and to assess whether I knew the content or not. A friend once told me “don’t waste time studying what you already know - spend it learning what you don’t”. I’m in my third year of university, I can honestly say that it’s changed the way that I perceive work and studying.

I'm a horrible procrastinator. I think studying by yourself is more efficient, but what really saved me was study groups. I learn quickly, but had trouble having a disciplined studying schedule during term breaks when there was nothing urgent to do, but you really do need to review the material from the previous semester. Going over the material with a group every day helped me to stay on track and forced me to interact with the subject matter every day whether I wanted to or not. Plus, it got rid of some of the self doubt for me, which was crippling in some of the harder maths subjects (I did computer science, it's more or less a maths degree in the first two years). You have to find people that learn at roughly the same speed. If you see the others are confused and have a hard time as well, you realize you are not too dumb to learn it, the material is simply tough.

Procrastination has really hit me hard the last 3 years. I procrastinate on sleep which ruins my sleep schedule, getting the lower recommended sleep required. I procrastinate on my homework by doing things the day it’s due. I wait last minute in everything by leaving the house for work or school last minute rushing, getting there barely on time or a bit late. It’s really taken a toll on my life and now that I’ve opened my eyes to the problem I will slowly work to better myself.

@Persivefire
@Persivefire 3 жыл бұрын
Once you reach a certain stage of procrastination, even that won't help. You would feel trapped and helpless as you continue to procrastinate while the world around you burns and withers away, and despite your best efforts to stop, you stop listening to yourself and continues to procrastinate while subsequently pushing away any help by telling them and telling yourself that you've got this and you can handle things on your own and you don't need help, when in reality you've not got this and you know it. The worst part is that your mind starts to double cross you and go against the very goals you set and it finds ways to surround you with more and more distractions, slowly eating away on your productivity and your will, eventually leaving you as a husk of your former self, incapable of doing anything except for the bare minimum within a deadline. Deadlines become meaningless and due to regularly missing deadlines, no one would ever take you for your word as your word has no value anymore, further creating even less of an incentive to finish things within a deadline, hence creating a sort of vicious cycle. You end up wasting all of your time doing meaningless things while the important stuff is on the backburner where it rots. It is pure torture, and I feel like I am very close to reaching that point. For your sake, please don't reach this point in life. (P.S. English isn't mother tongue, so I apologize in advance for any errors you may come across in the wording or the format of this reply) Regards Persivefire

I have ADHD, and I made my college career much longer and more difficult than it needed to be. I've looked up strategies to help my procrastination before, but I rarely upheld them, resulting in backsliding. The only thing that I've found to really work is to completely cut away distractions that are purely selfish, i.e. video games, favorite tv shows, alcohol. If I indulged in one I'd be back at the others in short order. I don't keep this up constantly, because I know its healthy to have indulgent pursuits as a part of my life, but keeping it confined to say, 1 week, then going without for 7 weeks would make me more productive than trying to sprinkle those distractions throughout random days. I do feel great when I'm in that productive mode (which is easier to stay in when I'm eating, exercising, and sleeping properly) and can see my accomplishments, so I know I'll have that reward from the abstinence and the reward of my indulgences spaced across my one week. It's kind of like a dietary cheat day on a longer scale.

I hated to study law, but it's what I chose as a career. I like the practice of it, but the tests were pretty daunting, and I would have loved to go fishing instead of reading the books. What seemed to help for me is to do a warmup before beginning the formal study. I would read a magazine article, part of an enjoyable book, or even the funny pages of a newspaper. This would sort of warm up my eyes, and brain to get into the mode for study. The key would be to find a motivating topic that would make me interested in reading more. I applied this from the idea that before I would begin a hard track run workout, I would usually do a light jog, and stretch beforehand. This made the task of beginning the hard track workout less daunting. The key was making sure that i stopped that warmup task within a set time period such as 10 minutes or so.

Absolutely love this video and the tips are great. I am a grad student and it is all online. Every week we have one or two big assignments (usually a paper), 2 discussion questions to thoroughly answer, and we have to reply to our classmates on 3 separate days. The hardest part is doing the big essay because there is a lot of research and writing to do. The biggest motivation for me has been: the sooner I get this done, the sooner I get to do something fun. I always break down writing the essay into smaller parts and this thinking has really helped me finish a task. I love what I am studying and learning (elementary education) but it gets daunting doing a lot of writing, so I have to tell myself that. Try it, it works with trying to work out too :)!

what helps me is to get up early in the morning (like 6-7am) , and go straight out, to just walk, it awakes me and its start easy on your brain who can wander as it pleases. By the time you get home and start your day, you're sharp and it's still early in the day (like 8am) yet you already feel like you've done something and you're ready to start. And walking is great for your health (both physical and mental ;)

reasons to why you should not procrastinate 1) you will regret it later as easy as this, just imagine yourself in the future stressing over finishing exam material in few days or writing a 2500 word essay the nigh before. Just fully imagine yourself and the amount of stress you will feel and trust me you'll do some work

As a producer/musician I find the timeline tip very usefull. I could work on a song for days or weeks and thrashing it at the end. And that can be super depressing. But I've been doing this lately: I expend 1 hour working on the song and if it doesn't flow after that first hour, I grab the element that I enjoy the most and start all over with that idea as the basis. Excuse my poor english.

To get rid or procrastination, play a movie/series/story-based games that you already seen and really loved on a separate monitor while doing your usual tasks. This will keep you entertained even by just listening to it and without needing 100% focus because you already know what will happen next. You can sit back, relax, and do your tasks without needing to look for other forms of entertainment like social media or new movies that you haven't seen before. While the movie is in the boring parts, you can focus more on your tasks, you can resume focus on watching anytime because you already know what happened. When you are tired of your task and needs a break, you can just watch the movie and not reach out to other forms of entertainment that makes you procrastenate more then you can resume your task on the boring parts of the movie.

I am such a heavy procrastinator. I'm smart, and I know that, but my laziness always gets the best of me. I became so overwhelmed with homework, exams, quizzes, and projects that I've been burnt out ever since. My motivation is at absolute zero and I always find myself doing homework or studying for an exam 2-3 hours before it's due. I am not kidding. It works a little bit but not enough for me to actually do well. Like, yes I finished the homework, and I reviewed, but it was so rushed. I hated it. I always feel guilty for procrastinating but I still procrastinate regardless of knowing the consequences. I am also very indecisive and when I do get motivated I have all these things that I want to do that I get overwhelmed and end up doing nothing. I also think I have ADHD. Agh, I'm so tired of this cycle lmao.

Only two things you will ever need to know to beat your habit of procrastination: 1. You are not lazy don't call yourself that ever. Call yourself what you truly are: WEAK. Yes, that's what you are weak, not lazy. 2. You don't lack motivation, either. You lack courage. Our perceived reality is a play of words. If you could only learn to communicate your problems to yourself in more honest terms you will have the solution readily available. So next time you procrastinate, don't say l am lazy and I lack motivation. Instead, say: I procrastinate cause I am weak and I lack courage. And you will see the difference.

Several years back I stoped drinking because I learned I was using drinking as a means of coping with stress. In other words my habit of drinking became more stressful than the stress I was inducing from my driven expectations. It took a while (3 months or so) but I finally got use to not drinking.after that my procrastination reduced and that allowed me to explore healthier ways of reward and paved the way to more productive. Cool video, thanks! 👍🥇

@lol_Ozma
@lol_Ozma 6 жыл бұрын
Well it helps if you break it down. Suppose you start even now at 10th of August...you have roughly 20 days worth of work days. Suppose you have 120 questions to do, write an essay and read two books. So for the first 10 days, you should read one book, write half of your essay and do 60 questions. Then for the next 10 days you can read the other book, finish your essay and do the remaining 60 questions. Now let's break it down a little bit more. 10 days for 60 questions means that you will only have to do 6 each day. Suppose you take 30 minutes to do each question. It would take you 3 hours. I am assuming your essay is about 250 to 600 words. You can dedicate an hour each day for it whether you plan, do research or do the the actual writing, it doesn't matter. You will be giving the essay a total of 20 hours if you do an hour each day which I believe would be more than enough. So each day you give 3 hours to practice questions and 1 hour to essay which makes 4 hours...cool. Now for the reading part. I am assuming again that each book has an average of 300 pages. So you have to read 600 pages in 20 days. So you will have to read 30 pages each day. If it's a technical book then that is the worst case scenario because you will not only have to read but understand and probably make notes. So even in this worst case scenario, you can give 4 hours to those 30 pages. That will make the working hours to a total of 8. You now have the rest of 8 hours to enjoy and 8 hours for sleep.
