I just love the small touch of having the character you talk about on your laptop wallpaper. Your passion about the FF is great they are so over looked in their importance to Marvel, I would not necessarily call Doom a villain though to me I have always seen him as misunderstood.

I recently popped a couple Dramamine and watched the most recent Fantastic Four movie. Doom in that movie is pretty bonkers, and seems pretty convincingly killed in the end... But the thing (no pun intended) that bothered me was The Thing, who almost instantly (and willingly) becomes a tool for the military. That part seems fairly in character, as far as the whole, "Well, I'm a monster now, better lean into it" aspect. The part that I couldn't get behind was the screen that showed that The Thing had 43(!) confirmed kills. I guess Josh Trank believes his true name should be The Murder Rock.

The fusion of technology and magic is my favorite. Little robots performing ritual elements to exacting standards. Harnessing the immunity of machines tp some magical effects. So interesting.

Doctor Doom...one of my favorite, brilliant & down right bad ass super villain of all time in marvel. Been a big fan of him since the fanatic four cartoon what first introduced me to all of them but especially DOOM!!! Plus Thing as black beard is priceless 😂😂😂. This channel is AWESOME!!

This story was adapted into a episode for a Fantastic Four cartoon, but the one featuring Herby the Robot instead of the Human Torch. Yes, a floating robot went back in time to become a pirate. Also, how much time really passed in the present? It's time travel. Doom could have retrieved them a second after they went back for him and Sue.

You and Comic Tropes are the Best for this kind of thing. Strange Brain Parts is Good too, he has very good research a bit like you guys, and is good for analysis of creation. But there's a unique Charm to these making the stats sound like a real person, very Theatre :) Love these videos, I put them on first thing in the Morning sometimes

I've always loved Doctor Doom. I first read this story in one of those Pocket Books paperback reprints Marvel was putting out in the 1970's, it reprinted Fantastic Four 1-6 and as a little kid experiencing the FF for the first time it blew my young fragile mind. Kirby's pencils were like crack for me, and I was just the right age to appreciate this story. My favorite Doom story ever is probably the Doctor Strange/Doctor Doom graphic novel Triumph and Torment, with Mike Mignola art no less. But for a little kid this one was magic.

Doom was and still is Lightning in a Bottle. Personally I think he's the best character Marvel has produced, certainly one of the best characters in the comics industry.

I was 11 years old when this comic came out. I remember how exciting it was and how it charged my own imagination. Thanks for the re-visit.

Doc Doom is definitely one of Marvel Comics' best villains! And I've read a reprint of this a few years ago, and I enjoyed it!

I only knew about his origin from the movies and the World's Greatest Heroes cartoon, where he was an astronaut together with the Fantastic Four, so this was ... interesting xD

The Red Skull and Doctor Doom are my two favorite villains with Moonstone being my distant third. They have had quit the rivalry as well.

I don't think Doom did not really care about the jewels and noticed a time paradox forming and realized that The Thing needed to go into the past to be Blackbeard to prevent a cataclysmic event that was inching its way through the timeline. The suffocation attempt and villainy was just so that the Fantastic Four would not realize he was actually doing something good (though for selfish reasons).

My favourite human villain in Marvel comics

This is how I picture Victor Von Doom. A smart calculated genius that is always one step ahead. To a point where he would go on to tangle not just with the Fantastic Four but become a main antagonist of the Avengers as well. Even if Robert Downey Jr. will be playing the part, let's hope he can deliver us a great version of this character.

This was the first issue of FF I ever saw(and bought) back in the early 60’s-I’m still reading FF today. I picked up Spider-Man cause Doom was the villain too.

Doom is dope. He has fought the Avengers, X-Men, and FF to standstills and just a mortal man. I also like Kang and Rama Tut. Time travel can be a neat feature in stories.

I love when stories are willing to take a strange turn. Kinda wish Doom had been manipulating the situation even more to make the pirate plot tie in even better

I read that when I was a kid... as always love the pirates.

I noticed, burnt corners on a buds copy of this book. I asked, how did this happen? Back in 1966, burning ones leaf piles was allowed in fall time . His brother got pissed at him, grabbed his piles of comics, and ran outside to fling them into the burning leaf pile. Knocked him out even when he tried to grab them out. He got his ff 5 out, but metamorpho 7 and many more,got scorched good.

That whole "the Thing is Blackbeard" bit never really worked for me. Is Ben eventually going to go back in time and live out the events of Blackbeard's life that are part of the historical record? Also, Doom is awesome: I love his original look.

Doctor Doom is simply my favorite villain! To be honest, for a first Silver Age appearance, it's not bad. Yeah, all the early Silver Age characters were a little corny, but Doom is somewhat better than most. And he really took it to the next level as the years went on. By the end of the Silver Age, he was a Villain First Class.

His first appearance wasn't what I suspected, but knowing Doom as well as I do I am not surprised by it xP

Doom is regal, authoritarian, a genius... and has plenty of common sense. My all-time favorite story arc was Marvel Team-Up #41 - 44, the setting being the Salem witch trials. Doom actually joins Spidey, Vision, Scarlet Witch, and Moondragon against the Dark Rider. He acknowledges at the end that their relationships with him will not be the same when they return to their present via the time machine. Yet he was in league with them for this cause against another evil. I just wonder, with the vast characters created in Marvel, which direction would they take him in the MCU? I wonder which actor would be best suited, especially for a multiple-film run.

Only reason I knew before hand that Dr Doom's first appearance was issue 4 of the fantastic four was because of sensational She-Hulk number 3. She-Hulk was all excited cause the teaser for her issue 4 had a Dr. ? in it. And she referenced his Fantastic Four appearance. This was when she broke the 4th wall all the time. She was mad next issue when it turned out to be Dr. Bong.

The Fantastic Four - stuffy scientist, oafish best friend, whiny kid, damsel-in-distress - are basically supporting cast, leaving a void where the protagonist should be, which is where Doom (and other characters) comes in.

No, the greatest villain of all is Galactus. I'll never forget that cover of the FF on the rooftop of the Baxter Building next to the Watcher, all crouched in awed expectation, and the Watcher waving his hand up as if to ward something off.... That's got to be one of the greatest covers of all time. Sasha, even though this comment is on a video from three years ago, if you're reading this, you need to do videos on both Galactus and the Watcher. Maybe also EGO, the Living Planet-loved that splash page when he identifies himself. Maybe also Forbush Man!

1st issue of FF I bought and I’ve loved both Doom and the FF ever since. In fact it was Dooms presence in Spider-Man that got me reading Spidy too.

Doom's favorite song is Bink's Sake. He was actually hoping to get Black Beard's stockpile of devil fruits. ...what? If devil fruits existed in Marvel, you don't think Doom would want a stockpile of them for himself? he'd be on that like white on rice.

The main gripe I have with Dr. Doom is that his legend has grown so great at this point that everybody wants to put their own stamp on him - and nobody can agree which stamps to stick with. This is a problem with a lot of characters these days, of course, but I think he's got a particularly bad case of it. I mean, don't get me wrong; Doom is a great character, but I've read like five different versions of him at this point. Is he a figure of misunderstood nobility who rules his kingdom ruthlessly but well, rendered a villain rather than an antihero mainly by his towering ego? Is he a ruthless, ranting maniac who will stop at no lengths - NO LENGTHS, I tell you - to stop that hated Reed Richards, including casual atrocities that phase him not in the least? Is he a racist, or someone who is specifically NOT a racist, and hates being thought of that way? Does he hate the FF with a murky, pitch-black vengeance that grows deeper and more obsessive by the day, or is he kind of the weird, black-sheep uncle of the family who will occasionally pull their collective fat from the fire, so long as they know that HE'S doing it, so ha-ha, up yours Richards? Not all of these contradict each other, of course, and he IS complex enough to juggle several takes at once - but at a certain point, they start becoming a little much. Doombots can only explain so much. My favorite versions of Doom, writing-wise, are the ones where he's handled by the same writer for an extended period, so we don't get yet another 'aw, but I wanna write him THIS way!' retcon.

I actually read this in a Marvel Comics collection called Bring on the Bad Guys. However, the whole pirate subplot made the story pretty forgettable. I wish we had spent more time on how Doom's face got messed up and how that messed with his mind. Great video, Sasha!

DOOM!!! As literally the only character I have ever encountered who can pull off talking about himself in the third person, Doctor Doom deserves all the respect. I also love how he functions as a universal break-glass-in-case-of-emergency character in Marvel. The world/universe/reality is not truly ending until after Doctor Doom has taken a shot at stopping it.

In John Byrne's FF 278 Doom's son Kristoff believing he is Doom recreates this first Doom encounter and actually blows up the Baxter Building.

5:40 the biggest downside of the MC2 Spider-Girl continuity is the lack of Valeria Richards/Doom.

This was the first FF in which Kirby's pencils were finished by Joe Sinnott's inks. The story goes that Stan wanted more, but Joe wasn't available. He wouldn't be available until 1966 if I remember, but afterwards inked Kirby until Jack jumped ship to DC.

If you want to see one of the weirdest drawings of the Thing on the page were Johnny is comparing him to the Hulk if you were able to scroll down ot the next panel on the page she showed would have been able to see it

First, I'll always love The Thing, and his hangups over how he looks now. I'd argue he's an even better tragic monster than Hulk is. Secondly, Sasha. Check out a song called "My Name Is Doom", by a band called 'A Sound Of Thunder'. I think, given the subject matter, that you might really enjoy it.

Dr doom is my favorite comic book character. Science AND magic. Plus the power cosmic. The hyper dramatic crazy complicated plots. In secret wars it was like “haHA you think I’m doing this but actually I’m doing this thing...” I love that he collects fantastic four action figures. Also. A BIG part of Doom’s character is that he’s ACTUALLY a good leader... while he was originally supposed to depicted as a Eastern European tyrant, he actually showed that that cares deeply for his citizens and country... .., of course he ultimate abandons all that so he can rule ...THE UNVERSE!!!! Hahahahahahahaha!!!

In the collected work known as "Bring on the Bad Guys" by Stan Lee,Lee mentions that Kirby had once did a drawing of Doom without the faceplate.Guess whose face was shown?That's right.Stan Lee!Kirby showing his resentment of Lee getting all of the glory of being the great creator of Marvel.

Incidentally, if I were ever somehow suddenly transferred to the Marvel universe, I'm making a V-line straight for Latveria. Victor Von Doom, despite being a dictator, is a very benevolent ruler who really cares for his country and the people in it. He's also one of the most powerful beings on Earth, all-in-all which makes Latveria arguably the safest place to live in the Marvel-verse. Think about it, New York is catastrophically devasted every other month. Doom would have none of those shenanigans in his realm.
