I always felt like Death's using the accent/slang to speak to the dying woman was not meant to make him seem like he was from the islands, but rather to allow him to converse with her in a manner to which she was accustomed...that he might better put her at ease. Either way, i loved your reaction to this one. A long time favorite of mine ❤

The fact that death took a holiday, learned the value of life in just a few days. Some of us don't learn that in a whole lifetime. Then gave life back as a gift, so someone he loved would have a truely complete and loving life. This makes this a beautful story. Truthfully a great movie.

I saw this at the theater when I was 35 and now at almost 61 it is still just as powerful. Maybe even more for me. I am not as good a man as Bill was and though I definitely will not go with zero regrets, I have had a good life overall and I am sure my son and daughter felt loved. So there is that.

I could easily write a mini dissertation on how cozy I find this movie, but instead I'll just say... when the father asks for everyone to come back the next night for dinner again, and the daughters ask if the father hasn't had enough of them yet, Anthony Hopkins' replying "mmmm... no" is a thing of joyous beauty. - also, this whole video reaction with the two ya is definitely irie 😂

You guys. I saw this in the theater. The scene where Brad Pitt crosses the street…😂 The entire room audibly gasped and we all sat in the darkness with our mouths open just like you guys did. 😂 It was absolutely silent (for what felt like an eternity) and then a woman began to giggle which broke the tension and then we were all laughing (but trying not to laugh). What a jarring scene.

This is one of my favorite movies. Brad Pitt is just phenomenal playing the young man in the coffee shop and also Death in such a way that you can easily tell who is who, but both characters are so likeable that you understand why Susan would fall for both. There's humor and romance and family love and sacrifice and real heart--unusual to have all those elements in one great movie. Bill Parrish is a fantastic father and ends up being a fantastic guide for Death, teaching Death to learn how to love and how to be unselfish in love. Death gives Susan back the young man she initially fell for when he realizes that that was the one she was supposed to meet and with whom lightning was to strike for her. Her face at the end as she finally comprehends that Joe was Death and that her father has passed on is so heartbreaking but beautiful, but it all ends as it should with the truth out and the love that was meant to be given the chance to bloom. A lovely, underrated film with stellar acting all around!!

"Why do we close our eyes when we pray, cry, kiss or dream? Because the most beautiful things in life are not seen but felt by the heart." I believe that quote can be attributed to Denzel Washington. The music you hear when Joe and Susan are making love is by Thomas Newman and it's called "A Whisper of a Thrill". That score fills me with such longing that my heart hurts. I don't believe I've ever seen a woman in any role look so beautiful, elegant and mindbendingly desirable as Claire Forlani as Susan. I find myself wanting to get closer to the screen just to have a small token of her aura. I imagine she smells of cinnamon and morning mist.

The ability for someone close to death to see through Deaths disguise because she is on the edge to the next place is really well done. This movie received very mixed reviews when it came out, and I've never understood why. To this day, it's rotten on Rotten Tomatoes. I saw it right when it came out on VHS, and I've always loved it. Granted, I saw this version before I saw the original, and I remember literally nothing about Death Takes a Holiday. Not an exaggeration. I suspect some people may not like this movie, because they're comparing it to the other film, which, if I remember correctly, doesn't resemble this movie virtually at all.

Your reaction's appreciated, thanks 🍻 I'm Scottish, some might say to me English is a 2nd language (jest) but it applies to this question. As someone who doesnt speak or know patois, (or if it's not that then whatever he spoke in the hospital scenes), does he speak in a disjointed and not normal way in that tongue the same way he speaks English? It's awkward, doesn't seem normal, in my view intentionally and wondered if the way he spoke each had the similar awkwardness since it's his first time interacting using them?
