Bassets are the most beautiful dogs in the world. My Oreo was my smallest basset and she was able to climb chain link fencing. She was athletic too. I miss her. I have had 4 of them. They were all perfect.

There was a Basset in our former neighborhood who always escaped his yard. I thought the owner was joking when he said the dog could climb the fence, wow, they really can do that 😱

I rescued our female Basset Rosie a year ago. She's our first Basset and is the best dog we've ever had. Her estimated age is around five but she enjoys walks and rough-housing with me. But like most Bassets she finds a good spot in the sun somewhere in the house, lies on her back spread-eagle and will sleep a good part of the day when there is nothing else going on.

He oddly doesn’t snack on anything but his kibble and leaves and owl pellets. Your girl will get a bit larger I think bassets are big bone dogs and take 18-24 months to become full grown. I have had 2 Normand bassets and 4 basset hounds. She does look like she has Normand basset in her. She is not pure Normand because her dewlap is good size and her head is more pointy than a Normand basset. She might just be small. I have a basset named Raven that is small and slender. She was the smallest puppy in the litter, but the prettiest too.

Your Jolene looks and sounds alot like my "Blue Biscuit"❗She was the runt of her litter and was small for Basset Hound standards; yet she was high energy and very athletic. I hope you do let your girl have a litter at least once in her lifetime. It is essential for their peace of mind to have puppies. Many happy and healthy years to you and your Basset pack‼️

I love the name blue biscuit, so cute! Gotta love bassets 💗
@ancientveritas4813 жыл бұрын
@@BackyardBassetsI believe that I rescued "Blue Biscuit" from a potentially bad situation. The guy who owned her previously had named her "poon-tang"⁉️ It was even on her AKC registration papers. He was a crazy drunk❗ So I changed her name to blue since it rhymed. I had all sorts of names that I called her over the years and they always rhymed with "poon". She was with me for 12 years and developed cancer in her last year. I seriously greived for her for almost 20 years❗ I now have a female Lab/Huskey mix. A beautiful girl named Pasha. She is huge and powerful. Still "Blue Biscuit" will always have a huge place in my heart! Since I was a young boy, Bassets have been my favorite breed. Blue came to me out of need. Her owner was mad with alcoholism and the booze eventually killed him. She was headed for an abusive situation. I am certain that I adopted her before he started abusing her. Pasha(my Lab/Husky) needed a good home as her previous owner had to go back to Peru. I never met him but it seems that he took good care of Pasha since her personality is very sweet‼️ I have been blessed with wonderful canines in my lifetime‼️ I hope that you are blessed with great dogs as well. I believe they understand much more about us than we know‼️

I don't know why , but English breed of hunting dogs are very smart , very intelligent , very in love for their familly & everyone , they are happy everyday of their life as long as it can follow you everywhere. I have the chance to live 11 years with a Cavalier King Charles i miss him now , i'm crying Felix 6 month I lost 66 lbs of weight but I know he's waiting for me on the other side and he wouldn't want me to be sad in the end because he was happy until the last moment before dying in my arms. All the videos of your dogs did me good, I wouldn't take this breed again so as not to draw a parallel, but it will be an English hunting dog, but who speaks this time, because Felix doesn't bark often , he very rarely barked and he mostly talks with his eyes, in mode I look at what I want and I look at you afterwards and I start again. lol =) The Basset hound I knew was not the couch potato who spends his day watching the Super Bowl while drinking cheap beer, he's a hunting dog, obviously he prefers to go tracking rabbits in the Forest and do his dog's life; to mark one's territory, underlying doing one's needs, to tell others "I've been there"; on the other hand, here all the same he looks quite serious in his eyes, he looks like Sherlock Holmes with his hat, with his big ears and his phlegmatic looking in the eyes , he investigates with his flair... 😄 Ah ah they are naughty these Frogs eaters , they make fun of the poor English and all ; no I don't eat Austin Healey 😋

Hello Guys, I am writing here because so many Basset owner commented. We are considering to have one, they would be perfect in every way, my only concern is howling, and barking. I have heard a Basset barking, and it sounded like a 140 pounds werewolf. Which is truly amazing, but we live in a condo and we have neigbours, who may would`nt be thrilled for a loud dog. :D What are your opinions in this topic? :)
@BackyardBassets3 жыл бұрын
Bassets are definitely known for their signature "a-roo" howling. My girl doesn't bark excessively but she does bark a few times when people come to the house, almost as if to say "someone is here mom". My other basset, Waylon, never barks unless he's playing with Jolene and Merle (my bloodhound). It is good to be aware that basset hounds are notorious for having separation anxiety. They may howl because they are sad and lonely. They are pack animals, so if there isn't another dog or cat around they naturally stick to their people. So when their people leave, they become anxious and sad. It really depends on the dog but training can help with this issue if you get a puppy. We used a high pitch frequency (instead of a vibrating/shock collar) so when she was a pup and cried and howled, the high pitch frequency would engage and she quickly learned to stop. It was the best option for us. She is kennel trained, which we started immediately, some basset owners prefer not to kennel but it really is the best thing, for us. We also left her alone for short periods of time, with a shirt or blanket that smelled like us, so she learned to be ok when she was alone. The best thing we ever did was bring home our other basset, having him around really helped her anxiety as well. I hope that this was helpful! We all love our bassets but the separation anxiety can be bad in some cases, it's just very common in bassets.
@SheyenneART3 жыл бұрын
@@BackyardBassets thank you for your answer, it helps a lot. Both me and my Husband are working from home and don't plan to go back to the office anytime soon, so the dog wouldn't be alone too much, and we would train him/her for the crate also, it was the original plan regardless of the breed. Anyway we are novice owners and have a bit of hard time to find the perfect match for our lifestyle: we are looking for an easygoing temperament dog, who is friendly and loves kids (we will have kids in the near future too), with medium energy. I know Bassets are Hounds, so they could be stubborn and scent driven, but I read everywhere that they are wonderful companions too. What is your thoughts: they could be a good choice for first time owners? Or course the necessary excersize and training will be provided. :)
@BackyardBassets3 жыл бұрын
@@SheyenneART it definitely sounds like a basset would be the perfect addition to your family. The are so loving and loyal. They do have their downfalls, but as you research and prepare you should be on the right track. Things to know for training is: consistency, lots of treats, and patience. They may take longet to potty train also,my girl took a while to get the concept. They can be very stubborn so patience is key. But in the end, I have always loved all my bassets, I love the breed.

@BackyardBassets3 жыл бұрын
Basset hounds can be notorious for being kind of smelly. We always use Oatmeal shampoo when we wash them. A good diet is also important when dealing with smell. The better quality the food, the better the Basset will smell in my experience.

She looks like an Artisien Normand Basset Hound. This type of Basset Hound a taller, leaner body. The European Kennel Clubs recognize this type of Basset but not AKC, which just seems to lump them all together and I think that is why you don't see too many Basset's winning in the ring.
@leonardbrinkman44103 жыл бұрын
But now at one year old as of March 4th of this year I think that dog has a potential and it won't be long now before she has a boyfriend and basically they'll start making puppies together basically as a matter of fact I cannot wait to see what her reaction would be if she found her new boyfriend and they would get together and basically they would have a lot of fun together but hopefully over the years they'll begin to grow with each other and pretty soon they will start making puppies I would predict she would have about seven puppies four boys and three girls I think that's about the right size

I am a member of the basset hound club of Seattle and am a responsible dog owner/breeder. I take breeding very seriously; it's not something anyone should do for profit or fun (I agree with you). I hope that you continue to watch the channel as we document the beauty of dog pregnancy as well as cute videos. Thanks so much for commenting!
