I really love the way black women are empowering themselves through entrepreneurship. We're extraordinarily savvy and brilliant in the way we navigate our way around this 9-5 workplace culture. We've been really stepping away from that lifestyle and embracing work that resonates with us. Black Girl Magic is real. 🌟🌠🎇🏆🙌

wow. Many Chinese pray to their ancestors everyday with incense, Ancient Romans have a fire burning continuously at home for their ancestors, and Africans burn incense for their ancestors too? So before onslaught of Christianity, three very different civilisations have the SAME religious practice of worshiping their own ancestors?

Ayibobo! I hope that any followup would include something about the women in Haitian Vodou-and there are many, especially in New York and Miami-who are doing exactly what we see here. Vodou is arguably the most overlooked and/or misunderstood of the Africana faiths, perhaps because it coalesced in a Black republic, the first to say "no" to slavery.

I'm guessing you haven't actually looked because there is more about Haitian voodoo on this platform than any other Black ethnicity. There's 2 documentaries about Haitian voodoo produced by VICE and one is about a well known NYC Haitian Priestess. And there a several others about Haitian voodoo. Black American African spirituality is actually the more overlooked spawn, according to titles that come up upon searching. And when Black American voodoo is highlighted its almost always about New Orleans.

I've grown to learn so many negative things about these societies. But my spiritual awakening has shown me just how important these people and practices are. These people save lives and generations. Your spirituality is something that you should never sleep on, there are really dark forces at work. Prayers and healing are vitally important.. I don't know who needs to hear this but with God, all things are revealed.

@@oriode2783 Ifa has been practiced outside of Nigeria for hundreds of years. In Benin they may say “Afa” or “Fa”, but it’s still Ifa. In the West, we have Creolized versions of Yorùbá language. Among the Lukumí of Cuba, the greeting used is “Iboru Iboya” instead of “Aboru Aboya”. Try to think of it as a Creolized Yorùbá dialect.

DNA testing are frauds. Tbh and just because you have Nigerian traces don’t mean it’s in your blood. It literally can mean that someone within your family tree married an African. Doesn’t make you have African ancestry..for example my uncle (my moms brother) married a Korean and decades from now if their great great great great great great great great grandkids would do a dna test they could literally very well be either black, white, mixed, etc. if those people do a dna test Korean would show up..does that make them have Asian in them? Absolutely not. Just there’s history in the family tree of my Korean aunt.

My Parents are Yorùbá from present day Nigeria. I am so surprised that the practices that our parents had left are now experiencing resurgence in the US. My grandparents were deeply into Egúngún, Ifá, and Òrìṣà Worship. My 'Grand Uncle' was a sacred custodian of for the ancestral deities. But, they ensured their children and posterity chose Christ Jesus. I guess they saw what the sentual eyes couldn't. Though, I love my rich Yorùbá culture, traditions, and heritage, and wouldn't trade that for anything. Jesus Christ (not the colonialists' Jesus) is my reality. N.B.: Kindly diregard the name. Nothing new here. Whether it is Ifa, Lucumi, Cambodle, Santeria, Palo, etc... they all require initiates to pay a fee for the service, many times the price depends on the price of the items used and how many people are needed for the rituals. A good godfather/godmother will show you receipts on what and where the money goes into. I had found packaged deals ranging from $2000 to all the way into the ten thousands ($10,000 and up). Always do your research and make sure you are comfortable with your godparents who will be your teachers for life. It is like a marriage, so make sure you pick wisely. I'm still looking for mines. I think the religions presented though are more of the diaspora as there is almost no materiality to most African spirituality. Some of the people shown would be viewed as straight up witchcraft in some African countries, after all, we are a continent full of diversity, and almost every tribe has their own religion. Personally, the religion of my tribe is pretty lax. Our God is basically a vacation God and worship is something that traditionally was done only for large events. The idea of praying everyday is nonexistent, as if all was going well then that meant, God was appeased. Praying everyday is akin to bothering God and the ancestors. On that note, Africa is home to a ridiculous amount of diversity and religions so what was passed on with the slave trade is impossible to know.

"Spirituality" is a business, so easy to use it to make a lot of money off people who are desperate, and uncertain of where to go in life. While they are not mainstream religion, they tend to be very profitable, "removing curses," "healing," and "protection." You can take people, and get hundreds to tens of thousands out of your followers and clients. It is a win win. Regardless of the religion, they play on the same psychological foundations, to fit almost any background, without providing solutions that go beyond faith, or the barum effect, to therapy disguised as "spiritual work."

I get uplifting spirtuality and all, but I live by a beach where these Santeria rituals are performed all the time and in the mornings I'll see so dead, mutilated birds that were sacrificed in the night. It's disturbing and I keep seeing more and more dead birds, which seems to coincide with this "spirtuality boom."
@Sonicboom238

im not saying i agree with that , but animal sacrifice exists in different religions, including biblical/abrahamic ones. people only treat it as satanic when pagans do it. that being said they probably shouldn't be leaving dead birds lying around lol

@@Sonicboom238 Biblical animal sacrifice was different, and was used to purify sacred spaces and also as an offering to the only and true Holy God. Satan ALWAYS has a cheap counterfeit to everything connected to God. Moreover, today, because of Christ's sacrifice, the sacrificial system is no longer practiced. What pagans do is DEMONIC and anyone practicing same will be punished unless they repent. Period.
@Sonicboom238

@@chigasaki06 its still part of the tradition. So Animal sacrifice isn't 'demonic' .Certain Orthodox jews still sacrifice animals. Are they being 'demonic'? In the balkans certain greek orthodox christians still practice Korban. Is that satanic? Or running with the bulls? Christians have no problem with that apparently even though its a pagan practice. Even Christmas is a pagan holiday but I don't see any complaints 🤣
