Meet the Vodou Priestess Summoning Healing Spirits in Post-Earthquake Haiti

Broadly teams up with Academy Award-winning director, Lucy Walker in search of healing in Haiti. We travel to the heart of Port-au-Prince, Haiti to join Priestess Manbo Katy as she summons the spirits to help heal her community. Six years after the 2010 earthquake, which killed more than 160,000 and left over a million people without a home, Haiti is still in dire need of physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
Katy comforts all those who orbit in her sphere, feeding their stomachs and their souls with a combination of financial support and traditional Vodou healing practices. We follow Katy and those whose lives she’s touched as they gather, adorn the temple, and prepare for the celebration of the dead, an immersive and transformative ceremony that will call on the spirits to protect the community.

God warned about these things it is forbidden in the bible & an abomination in the eyes of the Lord God, she might be a positive person but the spirits she is doing work woth are non other than deceiving spirits aka demonic entities we expose these things out of love God wants us to seek him not after other Gods, Jesus is the only way to heaven & true peace & joy He warns against these things for a reason as they only bring on misfortune, misery,& curse the land where it is practiced.

Diversity Gaming Stanley Dougé It's a "slang" I guess (Or it was a type of slang before millions adopted it as their official language). Just like Patwa or "Ebonics". Haitian Creole is an actually language regionalized by many countries. Linguistically speaking many languages in some way or form are derived from each other. Like many languages come form latin; English, French, Spanish and many more are derivatives of the Latin language. There are many cognates in these languages. Certain words are immediate recognizable because of there root.

Wow, this was amazing. My family from Louisiana have alot of ancestry from Haiti, so I always found it interesting how we are so often made to feel like Black people having an identity that White folks can't understand is forbidden. Even though I am a Christian, I believe that God comes in forms that can reach out to the respective people. Form the Hebrews, it was a burning bush. For the Aztecs, it was the sun. For the Vouduists, it is the Lwas. Therefore I have taken to having a liking for the Lwas/Orishas, specifically Yemaya/Mami Wata. Don't neglect your roots, because a tree with no roots is dead ❤💛💚

The Aztecs were monotheistic. They made the biggest and dumbest mistake thanks to their religion; they thought the white men were a God. Well, they lost. The Spanish kidnapped the Emperor. The Spanish were just a few men and the Aztecs were thousands. The Spanish used religion to conquer the native people. Religion kept Mexicans living in ignorance, misery and poverty for so many years. Fortunately, things are changing a little.

The ignorance and false sense of superiority coming from supposed "Christians" is a bit ironic considering... She practices voodoo, and because of that people claim she's a devil worshipper. And yet? She has opened up her home and her heart to those that need it most. She doesn't judge or argue. She protects everyone who needs it and puts emphasis on helping each other as a community in need. Says more about these false Christians that all they do is talk out of their ass...

If people knew what the Africans Slaves who were brought to Haiti has done for the liberation of many other ethnicity's maybe they would show more respect, We not only liberated ourselves by defeating Napoleon whom was considered one of the greatest war strategist's of his time, we also aided the remaining Taino Indian's whom inhabited the island to also gain there Freedom aIso from the Spaniards who also inhabited the other side of the island which is now called Dominican Republic, We went to South America and helped Venezuela, a few other Islands in the Caribbean who were Controlled by the English, and many other South American countries, Also lets not forget about what Haitians did for Chicago in those times and we helped the Americas get back the Louisiana Colony which was also controlled by the french at the time, we have contributed a lot to the cause so all we ask for is Respect, and most of all Respect for the ones who still embrace there roots and true culture.

I've never likes to identify as a Christian simply because of stuff like this. I feel like once you claim a label you feel obligated to live by it and that makes people close minded. Being a Christian you get forced into the idea that belivimg anything otherwise is a sin and you go to hell for it. I say fuck that, I shouldn't be scared of explore the world spiritually because some book handed to my ancestors by the same men who enslaved them says so. Christianity was used as a means of control in Europe and I don't feel like anything has changed thus far. All these comments calling vodou witchcraft and demonic makes me sick. To see people so quick to hate something is so backwards seeing how quick they might be to accept that one man saved the world with his death. Maybe I'm wrong and maybe I just committed the ultimate act of blasphemy, but if I gotta go to hell to enjoy the life God (a higher spiritual being, not necessarily Allah or Jehova) gave me.

"Agaou is the god who rules over thunder, rain, lightning, wind, storm and earthquake. Very powerfull and violent, Agaou is feared and respected by all. It is said that when the earth tremors, it is because Agaou is angry. One has to be very strong to harbor this spirit. His possessions are so violent, there have been deaths associated with them. Even Mambo and Hougan are affraid of this spirit. When Agaou comes in possession people are trembling of fear cause his voice is like the thunder itself and he's always ready to beat those who do not serve him correctly, with his machette or sword. In possession he keeps repeating " It is I who am the gunner of God; when I roar the earth trembles." The image of St Michel is used to represent Agaou."

All y'all in the comments saying "Jesus is the way" "this is devil's work" need to realize that not everyone believes in your god, or wants to. I don't believe in Christ, therefore I don't believe in your "devil" either. There are so many beautiful religions. I've seen Christianity be beautiful as well, just stop shoving it down people's throats. Accept that not everyone is gonna choose your religious path.
