Along with the dread of bringing someone to said family meetings... suddenly all the warmth and fun turns into a horror movie, what with the interrogating tias, nosy primos and your parents wanting to waterboard your beloved into confessing having a seedy double life or something ajajajajajaja

My next door neighbour is Greek and she married an Italian, wonderful guy called Lorenzo. When the Greek and Italian families got together for the wedding, which was in London, it was an unforgettable party. We danced Zorba and sung O Solo mio, and the wine flowed !! What was also amazing was how well our old grandparents, who could only speak either Italian or Greek, had no problem communicating with each other using facial expressions and hand movements !!

@Lucas STONE That we were civilized and everyone else was a barbarian. It's a common response you get over here if you talk about other countries doing things better than you, because we still have a pretty big ego. (Being the single adult 😕) Finally, I went online, and met my hubby! 🥰 *It will be our 6 year anniversary on Saturday! I love my hubby!* 🥰😘❤️❤️❤️ But, because of the way things are now, we can say we met online, and no one thinks it’s weird lol

mannythegreek That's exactly what my partner said. I don't remember any spitting either, come to think of it. I suppose they exaggerated aspects of the culture for comedic purposes but it does lead to others believing it's all real. Rather like films showing Englishmen saying "Jolly good show!" (which they generally don't) and Australians talking about wallabies and kangaroos etc. in their regular slang (not true).
