Beards Bountiful Bunnies is all about rabbit care. I personally raise rabbits for 3 purposes. Pets, meat and show. I raise 7 different breeds at this time. Flemish Giants, Americans, Rex, Minirex, Minilops, Holland lops and Netherlands dwarves.
I love discussing rabbits and all thier cuteness. I will be using my channel to help people figure out all the ins and outs of rabbit care whether it's to have a house bunny as a pet or to start breeding your own rabbits in a small rabbitry setup.

I have an All White red eyed all American Rabbit. His Name is Rodger 🐇 I’m still learning about him but he’s 5 pounds & has a sassy attitude LOL

Almost every breed of rabbit comes in ruby eyed white. If he is only 5 lbs and an adult he is not a American.

@@beardsbountifulbunnies1655 I’m curious to what he is! He’s all white and has red Eyes. He went to the veterinarian for a sanitation cleaning & came back 5lbs, and If I’m correct I was told he was an American rabbit. But thanks for the info! Will definitely look more into

Are you working on their longevity? You mentioned that breed you are breeding lives on average 8-9 years.

I adopted a rabbit from the SPCA and they said it was an American rabbit but it's multicolored

I just bought a SF/ American doe and a buck. I was wondering how their temperament, weight and heat tolerance will be? I live in the desert and im worried about them having heat stroke. And any advice for a beginner? Thanks!

My americans do great in my Florida heat. Constant shade is super important. Amd I use big fans that blow through 24/7. You can also freeze 2 liter bottles of water and st the hottest parts of the day give them those lay against and lick cool condensation from. If you use a watering system you can also put the bottle in the water bucket like a giant ice cube.

@@beardsbountifulbunnies1655 oh wow, Florida is brutal! I'm glad to know its possible to maintain them. I tried the water bottle method and that seems to work. I have them in a barn with the doors open to let in our stong breezes. Thank you so much for the info!

4:03, since they are an endangered breed, how you do manage the genetic diversity (if there is any) in a breed? How do you outcross?

When I got my original breeding stock I got completely non related rabbits from great show breeders so that way I had alot of diversity to work with. Now I have moved across the country and have found some breeders of this breed near me here as well I can get some new rabbits from to bring in new blood as well if need be. And if it ever came down to it, I will mix in some Flemish giant as they were originally created from flemish giants.

is it possible for one to come in chestnut agouti? I have a rescue rabbit and some have said she might be an american.

Nope NOT possible. Only white, blue and black.

I know the breed is named American but does that mean they're a native species before colonization or did someone come to America with some other species of rabbit and do cross breeding with the native species?

This breed was created in America mixing a bunch of different breeds including flemish giants to create the perfect meat rabbits and they became their own breed.

Can they come in a broken gene? Like their fur coat being a broken type of fur is that possible with mixes or broken gene?

If you mix with another breed, then yes you can get any color, but then they will just be mutts. Not purebred and you could mess with their growth rates if raising for meat. But purebred Americans only come in 3 SOLID colors. Black, blue and white.

I have 2 female (multi Coloured) American breeds. So no their not just black white and brown. Mine are white mixed with brown, black, and a few different shades. AND MINE ARE TRAINED. So No their not hard to train… just know what your doing. Fyi all black is a Havana. Whats going onnn???

Bahahaha. The breed AMERICAN only come is 3 colors. Solid white, solid black and solid blue. There are a few other breeds of rabbit that start the word American like American chinchilla and the like. But just AMERICANS only have 3 colors. And I never said they are hard to train. So get off your high horse and know what YOU are talking about seen how you do not own THIS breed apparently.
