Well done! We have raised Lionheads for several years. We have the Storey Guide and just purchased the Rabbit Production book for my son for Christmas. This book was recommended by a breeder friend of ours. It is pricey but it encompasses everything!!! Best purchase, it can be hard to find but very useful. ARBA is a wonderful resource also! A wonderful video- one that I haven’t seen before for rabbit people. Keep these videos going!❤️ I am also going to post this on our 4H page for our club in Maine.

Thanks so much, I'm glad you found it useful! Rabbit production is definitely harder to find but in my opinion its worth its weight in gold!

I should probably get the newest version of Bob Bennett's book. Mine is the second edition from 1988 when the title was "Raising Rabbits The Modern Way". There are no color pictures. It was published by Garden Way. When they went out of business Storey's bought the publishing rights and changed the name. I haven't read "How to Start a Commercial Rabbitry" but I can see how it would be useful. Efficiency is very important to commercial success and should be a consideration for any homesteader or hobbyist. Your videos have got me planning a new rabbitry after a 15 year break from rabbits. Construction starts when the ground thaws.

Glad to know I got you back in the game! I agree that most homesteaders tend to overlook the importance of efficiency for long term success with rabbits, even on a small scale. I am trying to find a new place with more land, and when I do I will be completely redesigning my rabbitry from the ground up!

@@westmeadowrabbits I might contact you through your website about breeding stock in a few months. You're about 200 miles from me which is a long drive but worth it for pedigreed stock from show lines.

It's never too late to add affiliate links to the books, etc, you recommend.

Here's my thoughts on affiliate links... Most of these books might not be on Amazon, and I'd rather people get them from where they are most comfortable. I think the best way for people to support the channel is by engaging with it, but I may create a Patreon some day in the future for those who really like what I 'm doing.

Very well done! I own just about all of those books but will definitely have to check out Rabbit Production. Another great one is How to Raise Rabbits by Samantha Johnson. Covers everything from breeding to showing, health, and more.

Good vid, keep up the good work. Is there any info on rabbit pelts in those books? Do you process rabbit pelts yourself? And if so, do you plan on making a video for that at some point?
@westmeadowrabbits
@westmeadowrabbits 2 жыл бұрын
I have tried processing my pelts before and it was hit or miss. I believe rabbit production covers pelts a bit but I would have to double check and get back to you. I will be doing more pelts in the summer but I have found the process to be very labor intensive. Unfortunately due to the stigmatization of fur, finding local fur workers or resources on small-scale fur production is tricky but not impossible. I recommend looking around the taxidermy/trapping community for the best, most up to date info.
