Yup your right but I know if I were one of those poor guys sitting out on this duty then that would be more painful thinking I could be out there actually getting stuck into things n the job I was trained for. Also most of these guys never thought of even to expect any tower security guard job. What was in their minds even as the tyres of the plane that took them there hit the ground they had it on their heads maybe 2 days at camp bastion n then out into bandit country. Also these towers r not that close together, they r in groups n cover an area it would take half a day to drive through. So they are quite isolated in a way
