@SorryLankan While I agree that 1983 darkened Sri Lanka to the core (and should never, ever have happened), I'd like to correct the bit about the borrowing. Before the SL government funded the war, it had massive foreign reserves and high export revenues, and could afford war expenditures. This crisis is not mainly a result of wartime borrowings, but a result of POST-WAR development borrowings (which continued to climb steeply way past the end of the war), the misuse of those borrowings, general corruption and financial mismanagement by the ruling family and fraud and money laundering in high places, and irregularities in very recent monetary policy and implementation (under that family rule).

The rulers turned to be looters and misled the general public they( the rulers) were the guardians of the country. And people turned their back to the voice of the JVP and re-elected the same thieves.ironically now the people are using the same slogans the JVP have been using.

@SorryLankan yes, true..after independence of SL, the tamil minority were severely discriminated which led to a long Civil War, where the tamilians were massacred in droves, even the innocent were not spared. Today, the south of SL is well developed. But the north is under developed and discrimination is rampant. Unfortunatly the world is aware, but the world does nothing. SL is bankrupted by corrupt politicians and now the people started to rise up. The country cannot heal in this situation.. the country can only prosper when all work together. Corruption and discrimination is the real cause of economic downfall of SL.. hope they realize this...

SL is great country???? When a country killing innocent people, raping even the died bodies of women and asking minority women to remove dress and cutting their breast and putting board on selling of Tamil women's breast. He wrote to PM he will not allow any investment, industry or business from Southern people. He said he doesn't value of tourism either. He sabotage any development but talked of 400 rooms hotels building by Tamils. Now we see nothing of these things but blame pass to the South.

But here monks preach and justify killing of Tamils as if Buddha preached it. How Buddha became Lord and achieved sainthood?? By preaching Dharma.
