Meet the Toilet Paper Plant, also commonly called Plectranthus Barbatus, Blue Spur Flower and Boldo. I visited three of my friends in Florida to show the Toilet Paper Plant growing in different settings and help you get to know the plant. First I stopped at Michelle’s in Wintergarden, who started her plant from a cutting I gave her about four years ago. That one cutting has turned into a substantial plant. Next we visited Lisa’s, where I planted my original plant in 2018. After three years of neglect the plant is still alive and well! Lastly, I visited Chris in Miami who showed me her love for Boldo. This was the largest Toilet Paper Plant I’ve ever seen and it started with just one cutting!

I never questioned using plants as toilet paper, but after seeing how amazingly it grows, it sounds stupid that we aren't using it! There is enough to use forever if planted well! I'm going to start using mullein, love from the UK!

For those who don't want to bury their toilet wipes: I don't flush paper down my toilet because I still have an antique sewer line. I bought compostable garbage bin liners online and use them to throw tp in there. When I throw the garbage out, the filled compostable bag is tied, but thrown out seperately so it can decompose faster at the dump. I just found a Mullein volunteer in my yard in a big pot. So happy to finally discover out what it is! Growing up in the woods we didn't always have tp available. The leaves we used were whatever was available. Nature's tp!

Keep in mind there has been a drought across North America (especially in the east) this spring, so the neglected plants would normally look a lot better. It's amazing to see how they survived in spite of all that.

Instead of a bidet you can use a bottle of water, I use that (as a lot of people across the world) and it's very simple and way more clean than toilet paper. I'm not sure if it's good for compost toilet, anyone who tried ?

"Flush toilets are incredibly destructive systems", I'm a big fan of your work, curious why this is so? This includes septic systems, which are kind of like underground, bio-digesters. Do you have to some information to read that substantiates this quote? I'm looking to learn, not trying to be negative.
@dsmith6868
@dsmith6868 11 ай бұрын
I think he means for sewage systems in the US. Bio-digesters like those used in Latin America where the waste is underground and biodegraded naturally are environmentally much safer and not what he was referring to.

You can use that for liver cleanser, just get 3 leafs and blend with a cup of water and drink; that taste awful but it is amazing. I am from Brazil and I never heard about that to be use as toilet paper.

I was wondering if it's also suitable for women to use as toiletpaper, and now that I know it can cause a rash I'm quite reluctant to buy seeds, let the plats grow for a year, only to find out that I can't use it. I bet for nr 2 it's not much of a problem, but especially wome use most toiletpaper for nr 1. Any women with experience using this plant for nr 1? And what about mullein?

Is it not cheaper, hygienic, simpler and less cruel for plants if you wash your bottom with water? You remember me of Diogenes.

I have lots of questions. Is it absorbent? I can see wiping your butt but as a woman wiping other body parts is it going to do the job? Secondly, I have a small child and digging a 5 foot hole in the yard could be dangerous. We also live in a residential area and don’t have much room for a Compost toilet. Could we put them instead in a large bucket or would that fill up too quickly? Also, how often do you take it out? I could see a garbage can next to the toilet getting rather smelly rather quickly.
