Meet these Black Doulas who are Helping Mama's Glow

In the United States, Black women are three times more likely to die of pregnancy-related causes than that of white women. With such staggering numbers that continue to rise, and hearing real-life stories of friends who barely made it post delivery, Nicky Dawkins and Averjill Rookwood began their training at Mama Glow to become full-spectrum doulas. A doula is a trained professional that is experienced in childbirth, and covers anything from fertility to postpartum. They are there to be a constant presence of support and an emotional anchor for their client, and always advocate on their behalf. It is with this training that they hope to ensure all women have the best birth possible with the least intervention. #IAMREAL

For centuries black women have played a role in bringing about some of the most beautiful, empowering and extraordinary contributions to birth as we know it, and it is such an injustice that they are also some of the most disadvantaged and endangered group of birthing women. It’s unacceptable. Doulas are incredible for any birthing woman, regardless of color, but in my opinion these are the situations where they shine the most. Videos like this are such a beautiful sight to see. I only hope that someday every single birthing woman, especially women of color, are able to have a doula accessible to them if they so choose. Everyone deserves to have an advocate and a voice, especially during such a vulnerable and volatile experience such as birth. God bless! 🙏🏻💕

I am 100% going to be a doula! There is no doubt in my mind. Once I get my psychology degree this is something I am more that elated to do. My passion is to help black mothers and who better to help them another black woman🥰

@Shaina Mcgee I actually switched my major from psychology to social work. Because I discovered you can do twice as much with a social work degree in less the time vs with a psychology. But, I wish you all the absolute best on your journey and I genuinely pray that you persevere and push through and make it to your end goal because we need more Black women, helping Black women

As a Mom, I appreciate how Doula's integrate with the entire birthing process. I connected to quite a few things, but more so, the comment of times past when women had community care......it's true & sadly, that isn't as present anymore. We are better together! #doulasupporter #momof4 #blackdoula

Hi, Has anyone heard of Aniball, Epi-no Delphine Plus birth facilitating devices, which are modelled on the traditional way of shortening birth, (Ina May Gaskin 'Reducing the fear of birth in US culture', the brass Peruvian casting at 15 minutes shows the use of 4 fingers of both hands), avoiding tearing and episiotomy; which all employ the Plastic Surgeon's technique of 'skin tissue expansion', gradual, painless, 'Opening Doors for Baby to 10cm diameter'prior to birth?
