My grandma loved his music and got the chance to see him in the 80s, she sat in the very front row and having learnt it was her birthday gave her a rose after the show and played "tea for two", at her request. She told everybody who would listen about him and her encounter for the next 30 years.

To remember past times, playing (me piano, age then 24) just once with Stephane in the 80's: a thrill of a lifetime. I requested "My Melancholy Baby"; if it'd been 1930 instead of 1983 we would've been a hit with the gals.

I'm with you on that. you just got to find your entry point and go from there. Not all jazz is created the same. There's a wide variety, different flavors and different interpretations of jazz. Like everything else in life, if you want the good stuff you got to dig for it. For me it was Miles Davis bitches Brew. That unique fusion of psychedelic rock and wild free jazz fusion. Or Miles Davis in a silent way is a haunting record it feels gritty like get was coming out of the very streets themselves. Today's generation are surprisingly getting into jazz. There's a psychedelic pop band that uses a lot of jazz chord progressions like 'mild high club'. Like a much trippier version of steely Dan. I was very lucky to be born into a Brazilian family, because it introduced me into the jazz flavored music of bossa nova.

I saw this pair play sometime in the 80s or 90s.. my chief memory is the contrast between how old stefan looked, and how young he sounded.. that and the mutual respect between them.

Thank you for those kind and observant words. It is perhaps worth mentioning that Stephane was in a continuous and painful battle with shingles at the time of filming. He refused to be beaten by it and played though the pain barrier regardless. The more he played, the less pain he felt. All who took part in the filming were in awe of what was taking place in front of us that day between Stephane and Martin.

@@LEMANPRODUCTIONSARCHIVE That's an amazing story ! Shingles is from what I know one of the most painful sicknesses of all. I am all the more in awe. Grappelli was pure music, joyful, elegant & healing. Thanks for sharing your experience & video.

The motoric gift of this man defies most of my expectations of aging. What the hell, how can you play like this at this age??? Incredible genes, healthy diet, good mental health...? Great. Loved it. Thank you very much for the upload.

I think the mute (damper) is a fantastic tool that is an important piece for the instrument to play softly maybe in a small space with good microphones. Then you take it off to get full volume from the fiddle (violin) which is good when playing outdoors or with louder guitars etc. Never underestimate the quality of soft playing. These guys are great 👍

No excuses, he played you out. You are using a guitar off course with his way. Still, he fits the guitar. He is classy, you are lacking the few guitars, to make him whole.
