I suspect the muted laugh was because the crowd wasn’t sure what the precise gag was. They were probably thinking ‘does she mean they put their valuable stuff away or their borderline racist stuff away?’ You never want to overexpose in comedy, but this probably needs to be more specific to get a bigger laugh.
@darkwitnesslxx
@darkwitnesslxx 2 жыл бұрын
It's multilayered. Everyone puts their stuff away when guests come over, it's called cleaning up. But it also has the other meanings. It's a very good joke.
@tchai91
@tchai91 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen her tell this joke multiple times and it never gets a big laugh because it’s unclear what she means. If it’s a reference to ‘everybody’ putting their stuff away when guests are coming, then why that look after the joke? Good jokes are clever and specific, but it was as if she hadn’t worked this bit out enough. I think she’s great but this doesn’t work.

So according to Google, Marina Franklin is currently 35. Description says this aired back in 2011 so she was 25/26 at the time. I HAD to look it up, because i'm over here like.. she does NOT look cougar age, at all lol. But at the same time, if the boyfriend is like 18-21.. then yeah, I could understand her feeling that way. I mean, I'm 27 myself and I don't know if I could see myself seriously dating anyone younger than like 22.

I mean laughing with people that are different than you is a great way to come together. This comic and so many others are creating an atmosphere where we can just enjoy each other's company and tackle some pretty serious subjects in a way that is playful and non threatening. Once we can start to communicate we can all start to heal, respect each other and grow together as a community. Comics that talk about these subjects are extremely important and doing God's work.
