Streets of Rage (Bare Knuckle: Furious Iron Fist) is a side-scrolling beat em up released by Sega in
1991 for the Mega Drive. It is the first installment of the Bare Knuckle/Streets of Rage series which was followed by Streets of Rage 2 and Streets of Rage 3. The game was also converted over to Segas Game Gear, Mega-CD and Master System. In 2007, the game was released for the Wiis Virtual Console in North America and Europe, and in 2009 it was released for the iOS via the App Store. The game was again made available as part of Sonics Ultimate Genesis Collection in 2009 on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.
Essentially this would of been dismissed as a Final Fight clone if it wasnt for the fact that the music is top-notch and its creator Yuzo Koshio inspired the electronic dance movement... overall I used all the characters available and played the game 3 times in Normal, Hard and Hardest difficulties. -

Yes I used to like the music in the first golden axe, however the music in Streets of Rage really sets it apart from any of the other Megadrive titles.

Imagine buying an awesome game like this now and it only taking an hour to complete, you'd be pissed. But back then it felt like forever. The BEST game ever on the MD.

So many memories. I remember when I was in sears playing this and sonic just thinking, When can I play this at home. Christmas came. Running home after school to play Sega Genesis was my moto for five months straight. Thank you Sega.

Oh man the goosebumps. I used to play this game back in the 90s when I had a little bit of vission before I became totally blind. I used to press my face against the tv and play lol. Good old days man. My biggest trouble was those friggen 2 girls in stage 5 and the end of stage 8.

This brings back memories. I remember playing it hook up to my Hi-FI system. The soundtrack is amazing. Funny thing is i would play it early saturday mornings so the when the sun comes up it matches when you get to the final. level. Lol

One thing I miss from the rest of this series was structure. The pumping jams, then you reach the end and this ominous theme plays just before this big ol disproportionately sized goober comes out from the side to toss you around. Me and my mom were always afraid to finish levels cause how creepy it was. I wish they'd come back to that, it was a brilliant set up

At the end, when he asks "Would you like to be my right-hand man?", if you say "Yes" you just get dropped back to Level 6. Last week I actually played through level 6-8 again to see if I'd get a different ending. All that happens is that the 2nd time you reach the final boss, he skips straight to saying "You really want to die, don't you? I'll be happy to oblige."

Watching this video, reading the comments below.. It takes me back 30 years.. When I was little and playing something that was one of the best games of all time without having any clue about it. I wish I could rewind time and play this game for the first time again and others like Sonic, Shinobi etc. I think it is a wish all of us want to become true.

Played this a lot at my grandparents' house when I was a little kid. I must have been 8 or 9 when my uncle decided to leave his old sega at their house for any of us cousins to play when we came to visit, and man, it was awesome! com certeza a maioria da Galera aqui, é nascida nos anos: 87/88/89/90, e se lembra desta maravilhosa nostalgia,,, a Minha foi o meu primeiro video game, Mega Drive da Caixona vermelha com cartucho Sega Top Ten... quem lembra??? hahaha... minha mãe com o Pai, tinham ido à cooperativa, e só voltaram no final da tarde, trazendo esse presentão de fim de ano,,, lembro que era presente se eu passasse de ano na escola hahaha...!!! lembro que o 1º jogo que joguei foi Sonic, depois foi o Street...!!! bons Tempos!...

It's not easy unless you know about it, but you can land safely from throws if you hold Up and C just before impact. It helps a lot against Orihime and Yasha (the twin Blaze clones from round 5 and 8).

Out of all of the SoR games, I've always thought that this one had the best soundtrack. The first level and the boss music, especially, is just sick, lol...
