Yes! Or, as called in the West.. Devil Hunter Yohko. It's an OAV Series which was dubbed in America too. You can find it complete here on YT.

Pretty difficult game, the later stages are absolutely maddening. The games not bad either, the music is nice as well.

A great soundtrack, particularly Level 5 (Snow level)

This Yohko game was one of the first three anime-based games I've ever seen during my 90's childhood alongside YuYu Hakusho Tokubetsu-hen and DBZ Super Butouden 2 on SNES. Though I only watched my brother play these games and never played them myself. I'm kinda glad I never saw my brother go past the 1st level of that Yohko game, as the creepy-looking backgrounds of levels 2 and 4 would give me nightmares back then if I ever got to see him play further into the game. Props to the devs for making such a fitting BGs for this game centered around slaying demonic creatures. Good soundtracks, too. And, oh, the uploader got the game title wrong. This game is called "Dai-7 no Keishou" (1991), while "Makai Kara no Tenkosei" is the 2nd game (1992) which came out on PC Engine CD and plays more like a visual novel.

So fucking difficult. Just received this import as a gift, really inviting music and atmosphere. Platforming and jumps have to be more precise than they should need to be but it’s still very fun.

I love how in the title screen, the main character just scrolls to the center, menacingly, as if she's about to kill you & bury the evidence.

I used to love this game. I bought it from a market in Wythenshawe, Manchester in about 92/93. I think I had it for a while before I discovered that you could hold down the attack button and get the force field!

Wow! A Devil Hunter Yohko game!? Thought it was just an "Echhi" magical girl anime sold on pricey OVAs in the USA.

Devil Hunter Yohko has not just one but two games. This is the PC Engine one that is more like a visual novel. The PC Engine game is the second released Devil Hunter Yohko game.

I love the subtle details like when you pause the game and the Yohko symbol comes on. The music's lush (level 3s my fav) + I adore 80s/90s anime style cut scenes in games like this, Valis and any amount of MSX titles. Games ain't what they were.

I wouldn't call what they make now games, with few exceptions, that arcade twitch feel is gone from today's stuff. Games like this weren't long, didn't have to be due to how difficult they were, practice definitely made perfect back then. The satisfaction of beating a difficult game like this felt good, you really felt like you accomplished something. Now it's meh, beat game, trade to Gamestop, get next game, repeat, you just don't feel collecting these types of games will keep you satisfied as a game collector (I am one of those). Not to mention games now won't have net code that is functional in a decade or so, and all DLC will be gone (seriously, DLC shouldn't cost anything at all, it's just patching stuff in that should've been there from the start). Of course now, they sell you a half finished game that needs a ton of patches (hello GTA V, I am talking to you with your damned near 1 hour patch fest), back then games were often more than that sold completed, and bug tested as best as the developers and bug testers could. Today's kids are sold on graphics, not game play and replay value for their, or their parent's money.

100% agree with you mate! I like Suda 51 games and Team Icos but other than than that, other than the indi scene theres nothing appeals to me. Some Nintendo I guess. I'm always interested to see the new Metroid and Zelda games but aye man. The last consoles I owned was the Game Cube and PS2. I'm a collector as well but have had to sell a few gems lately:( Phantasy Star 4, Snatcher etc. Gutted! They were in perfect condition. I collect for the 8/16bit consoles. Absolutely love these games, the artwork, the soundtracks. Seriously I reckon some of the soundtracks are amazing! Like ya say gameplay is the heart of the game n I still love playing them.x

@@Bloodreign1 "Today's kids are sold on graphics, not gameplay", bruh were you not around during the Among Us craze in 2020? Graphics and artstyle are pretty simple (and probably janky) for phones compared to the gacha games and rpgs I've played but damn were we in on betraying our friends. Roblox is the jankiest thing I've ever seen and it's unlikely that I'll play it but seeing my brother and little cousins forming their little communities around it is kinda wholesome. I do agree with the microtransactions going to far, which unfortunately is just another symptom of good ol capitalism. And oh man almost nobody goes to gamestop anymore especially now that stores are no longer selling physical copies of games.

When the devs knew how to work with Genesis, the results were quite good. Look those backgrounds and colors. Trying to make it looking like something it isn't wouldn't work.

I'll forever remember this as the one where I can't even get to the first boss, because the wind always blew me into the water. The difficulty of these games back then
Makai Kara no Tenkosei is the PC Engine game. I think this might be Dai 7 no Keishō.

This is supposedly based on a somewhat pornographic anime. Seems like a good game!
@underthepale9 жыл бұрын
PinMike is not exactly the right word. Devil Hunter Yoko is a messy, only vaguely coherent magical girl-esque series where you're mostly watching for the fully nude transformation sequences, with lots of closeups. The last episode has that, with slow motion thrown in. It's awful, but it's a fun sort of awful, and if you saw it when you were 18, like I did, it hits the spot.

A bit late to the party I know, but I just like to say it does, in the manual (along with the usual array of beautiful artwork typical of the Japanese versions of these games), which I just the other day translated for the first time. Yeah, I scanned it 20 years ago, but never did get round to doing it. Not a lot of bearing on the original anime though, which is probably for the best. (^_^;)
