0:43, #3, the _flashing_ red means "stop then proceed; this signal-set is currently a four way stop." You can see all three, left-hand, cross-traffic, cars are stopped and then go through, making it the cammer's turn to proceed through. You can also see the right-hand cross-cross traffic stopping for their own blinking-red lights. So the cammer is correct, is in the right, and did not have a "red light."

Even without seeing the opposing traffic’s light (the gov’t does try hard to hide it from you) you can tell by the behavior of the cross-traffic that they had the flashing red too. Translation: You might get a safe conmute if you learn to keep a proper distance and anticipate a sudden speed reduction. In doing it so, you will save a ruined day, a car fucked and your insurance rates gone up. Very sorry, dear cammer: The fault was entirely yours. Perhaps, next time you will keep your eyes on the road and the foot ready to step on the brake pedal.

Cammer loses points since his first reaction was to hit the horn instead of brake. But at the speed cammer was going, I doubt he would've been able to stop in time even if he hit the brakes first. The U-turn car pops into view and cammer's immediate reaction is to hit the horn, which happens just before he reaches the intersection. Stopping distance from 45 mph is about 130 feet. If you figure the intersection is 4 lanes + 2 right turn lanes + left turn lane, at 12 ft per lane that'd be only 84 ft across. So even at full braking he would've come to a stop several car lengths past the intersection. Meaning he still would've plowed into the U-turn car, just at a lower speed.
@superdwarf
@superdwarf 8 ай бұрын
@@solandri69 I don’t disagree with any of that at all but if a large brake input was given it would’ve been a much better situation still. Kinda just seems like their brain went “well….I guess we just gonna wreck” instead of “hey let’s try and actually avoid this alittle bit”
@solandri69
@solandri69 8 ай бұрын
@@superdwarf Yeah, like I said, cammer loses points for honking first instead of braking. Unless you're being tailgated, you only lose a tiny bit of fuel for braking early if it turns out to be unnecessary. Whereas if it turns out to be necessary, braking early opens up a lot more escape options for you.

Y'all gotta also keep in mind, most dash cameras have a slightly different view than the driver, and can sometimes see things before the driver does, or has a wide angle lens which can make distances seem further than they actually are. And with that camera angle, it's sitting closer to the passenger side, clearer view, and I'm assuming wide lens makes the stopping distance seem longer than it likely actually is. You can tell he slows down drastically as he hits the intersection, and veers to the right in an attempt to avoid them while all this is going on. They hit their horn just before entering the intersection, and we don't get a clear view of the lanes beside them/in their blind spot and if there's traffic that may be in those lanes, very likely considering how the cammer swerved, may have been to avoid hitting another vehicle. If cammer hits any traffic in those lanes, even if it's an attempt to avoid the illegal u-turner, cammer would be at fault for any crashes caused by the sudden lane change. In the eyes of the law, it doesn't matter. If you cause an accident trying to avoid another, you are at fault, not the person who you tried to avoid. Cammer slowed down quite a bit, considering how you can just barely hear his tires screeching right before the initial impact. It's faint, but you can hear it

1:21: Blue car was at fault since they did not appear to have their blinker on. 20:15: Uh, you do know that the other driver's insurance will provide a rental vehicle to you until your car is fixed or replaced, don't you? 34:00: The only way to avoid this scenario is to use your blinkers when you change lanes. Perhaps one would have noticed the other with the blinker on and avoided it. As you can tell, I am a stickler for blinkers even when you don't think you need them on a freeway.

1:21 Yea, but they were also mostly in the lane before before the red car even began to move. Also, the red car is the one who actually hit the blue car, blue car was ahead and had greater control of the lane... these factors make any lack of indication on the blue cars part basically irrelevant. At best it's shared fault, with the red car getting the majority (60/40 or 70/30), but the more I watch the clip, the more at fault the red SUV seems to be. I mean... they drove straight into the side of the other person's car, you gotta be having at least partial fault if you drive your car straight into someone else like that. How could they not see the blue car directly in front of them unless they were being negligent and not paying proper attention where they needed to be.
@pipertheviper1721
@pipertheviper1721 8 ай бұрын
Not until your car is fixed or replaced, I just went through this. I had to fight tooth and nail to get the other driver's insurance to provide me with a rental, and I only got it until they finished the evaluation of my vehicle to determine if it was a total loss or not. A vehicle I was still making payments on. It was totalled. Without GAP protection, I would've been stuck carless, and I was once the rental time frame was up, which was three days after my car was deemed totaled, before my car company even got paid for it. I still had to go out and replace the vehicle itself, which took another month, without the rental. It depends on the insurance, but that's how most operate that I know of. You get the rental until the evaluation is completed. If your car is fixable, you get that rental until it's repaired. If your car is deemed a total loss? You get three or so days to return that vehicle and get your butt in a new one, and if you're waiting on other processes, you can forget even doing that

@MegaDrivingSchool : THAT was YOUR remark... and if you do NOT know why the cammer was driving at 0:42 YOU need to learn how to drive. 1) That was NOT a "red light". That was a RED FLASHING light. I was able to see for a split second, the OTHER direction also had flashing red. Do you know what that means? It means that the lights were down for some reason and that you should treat the intersection as a FOUR WAY STOP SIGN. If you do not know how to drive through a 4 way stop sign, you need to STOP DRIVING IMMEDIATELY, read the Drivers' Handbook for your state at least 3 times from cover to cover, and take a driving test again.

#9 Hey Danny boy, speed limits only 50mph there, might want to slow it down just a little. #20 Funny how the girl's head pops up just after impact . . . #29 Try increasing your following time. The truck slammed on their brakes because the car in front of him was stopping . . . #40 "Honey, we've got some more renovations to do . . ." #64 Must be an improperly loaded trailer. #80 Joey, you did make a sketchy lane change, but the other driver did go way overboard with his reaction.

1:21 IS a tough call... the lane was empty and both vehicles entered it at the same time. Given the "law of "right" of way", I'd say the stationary vehicle was at fault, being on the left, but in actuality, it may have been classified as a 'no fault' accident. That would be curious to see what they say about that one.
@GratefulforFreePress

lol no, the blue car was already partially in the lane before even coming into frame, they began their switch WAAAAAYYY before the red SUV. At best, red car will get 60-70% fault, but the more I rewatch the clip, the more it becomes apparent its entirely the fault of the red SUV.

Red SUV would be at fault for not verifying the lane was clear, since they were stationary at time of lane change.

1:20 These are the true 50/50 accidents. Two cars wanting to go into the same lane at the same time. We are used to checking the lane we want to enter, but not two lanes over to see if someone else has the same idea. I'm not sure why checking two lanes over isn't taught, but there you have it.

I never change lanes when there is a car parallel to me two lanes over. I always either get ahead of him or fall behind in order to prevent such an accident. At least 80% of these crashes could have been avoided if people just didn't assume things. If I'm going through an intersection and the light is green, I never assume people with the red light are going to stop.. I always look for the idiots out there. Same goes with stop signs, and side streets where someone in the oncoming lane might let someone pull out into my lane, which nobody should do. Let them wait there until they have a clear line of site in both directions. You might think you are being courteous, but you could be setting them up for a bad crash.

Blinking red lights at intersections are to be viewed as a four/three way stop. The car coming from the left is at fault as they did not come to a complete stop the camer had the right of way as they were stopped and started to proceed into the intersection as the vehicle next to move.

I wondered that, too. And he didn't "just barely" install it: it functioned all through the crash and until after the camera vehicle came to a stop. Unlike a lot of dashcam clips where as soon as there's an impact the image starts swinging wildly as the camera dangles from its power cord.

20:13 You have video proof (or at least very strong evidence) that the other driver was at fault. Her insurance company needs to get you a loaner rental car until your car is repaired or they give you a check for your totaled vehicle.

28:58 just advice - when y9u see drivers stopped at an intersection for no apparent reason, try slowing down safely to figure out what they that you don't. It's totally the other driver's fault but why have the hassle if you don't need to have it. BTW, there are intersections where you can't hear the emergency vehicle's sirens until you're in it, so if the other lane is stopped, you might want to know why b4 proceeding. We have one of those intersections that the walls on all four sides block sound near us.

0:56 the red lights are flashing and from the other traffics behavior, the lights were out, which meant it was to be treated as a stop sign. Cammer is not the one at fault.

"Always check out your rear-view mirrors to avoid being rear ended" okay, i check them, there is a car coming, now what? What can I possibly do? Turn to oncoming traffic? Risk hitting someone else myself on the lane on my right? What?
@jp1087
@jp1087 8 ай бұрын
Many people here would actually recommend all of that, and then try to blame the person you wanted to avoid when you cause an accident. Same mindset as swerving into oncoming traffic when they get cut off instead of using their brakes.
@seanwexler8051
@seanwexler8051 7 ай бұрын
The idea of checking your rear view is, if you see someone following close enough that they may rear end you if you have to slam on the brakes, you should give more distance between you and the car in front of you to allow you to stop without such hard braking if something happens ahead. It's part of "leave yourself an out" from defensive driving Edit: I replied before seeing the clip you're referring to. Yeah, in this situation, "checking your rear view" wouldn't have done anything.
