Megalopolis reminds me of George Lucas saying he wanted to make experimental movies just for himself, not for release. The difference is he doesn't have to sell his assets to do it!

Grace, "diversity in Japan" doesn't mean that there was some large percentage of the population that was non-Japanese. He was "likely" of African origin, although not confirmed. And he was only there for just over 1 year. 1 man. "In 1579, Yasuke arrived in Japan in the service of the Italian Jesuit missionary Alessandro Valignano, Visitor of Missions in the Indies, in India. Yasuke was a man, likely of African origin, who served as a servant and retainer to the Japanese daimyō Oda Nobunaga in 1581-1582, during the Sengoku period. He was retained by the daimyō as a koshō (小姓, page) for a period of 15 months until Nobunaga's death in the Honnō-ji Incident. The name Yasuke was given to him by Nobunaga. His real name is unknown, and it is also unclear what he was called before that. Few details are known about him, including his date of birth, family structure, place of birth, ethnicity and native language."

You’re right, but I’d also argue that it’s a game and entirely fictional, not a historical retelling.

Grace never said that there was a large non-Japanese population at the time. She said including non-Japanese travelers in the show would be interesting as long as it WAS historically accurate. So why are you really so bothered?
@10joJoe17 күн бұрын
I don’t think she meant that either. She meant like in this first season it that’s wasn’t Japanese. There was a few pirates interested in conquering, partnering, scheming. Because as she mentioned at that time a large part of the world was exploring and starting to establish communications. So I’m not sure she meant like a large population of living there but you can certainly have more than just Japanese people which the first season had already done. And also she didn’t really mention African but did mention black. That one individual was black skinned. Thought as you mentioned it is likely he was of African origins

I used to have anxiety and extreme panic attacks during college. When I discovered BBT it always helped calm me down. Whenever I felt a panic attack coming up, I would put it on and it would help me through it. I thought the show went on a bit too long and was not as funny towards the end, but it will always have a special place in my heart. I tried Young Sheldon but fell off sometime during season 1. It wasn't quite the same.

@nationalsocialism350421 күн бұрын
It ends before the big battle even took place... it's not a novel of "source material" it's a historical story. It's not like the Toranaga character just magically became Shogun & lived happily ever after with Japan experiencing peace & stability. He had to become Shogun then he had to spend two decades crushing all opposition to his rule (took fifteen years but "Crimson Sky" finally happened when Osaka was sacked & the Heir was killed) there is 10 seasons worth of material of just HIM ALONE without expanding it to the Century of Isolation or the Shogunate finally being list since that Shogun was weak and was actually trying to push through reforms (the Lords correctly perceived that he was a weak man & they toppled him using the tiny bit of power that he needlessly gave them for no reason.)

Hollywood's greed has always been its downfall, but the important part of the Shogun S2-S3 news is that they will not continue if they can not find a good story to go forward. When I read the book years ago I did want to know more of what happened to the characters, so hopefully if it does move forward. that means they did get a good story for us to enjoy.

I caught PT Anderson's Magnolia on cable this weekend in my hotel room in NYC and it made me miss big swing ART House films that weren't just fluff or paint by numbers plot. I'm hoping this Coppola film is better than what folks are saying because I miss the amazing films that came out in the late 90s and early 21st century that inspired me to go to film school. I love a good popcorn tent pole but man I miss interesting stories that get stuck in your head for days and weeks.

There are two possible routes they could go with, they could continue the story of Ieyasu and show what he did with his fleet working with William Adams (Japans trade etc) and the conflicts he faced at the start of the Shogunate. This is the most likely. Or they could go backwards. As one of the Three unifiers of Japan, with the three men impacting each other, you could do Hideyoshi next and then Nobunaga, working backwards. It is fascinating how these men, who rarely saw eye to eye, would hand over the future of Japan to the next. If anyone gets this reference kind of like red dead redemption 2.

There was a lot of science nerdy stuff in Young Sheldon. He goes off to college as a kid; at one time Meemaw has a nerdy boyfriend (one of Sheldon’s professors); Sheldon has a frenemy who is a match for Sheldon intellectually yet a lot more outgoing and socially capable - though she has family issues. It may be more poignant and thoughtful than the traditional sitcom but it is still funny and very clever.

Personally I think they should shift to an anthology format with SHOGUN, as each entry in the 'Asian Saga' book series takes place in different eras featuring different characters but a shared history. Forcing Blackthorne & Toranaga back for season 2 would actually create the Game of Thrones problem since their stories end with Shogun. However if done right, Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis & Anna Sawai could all return as different characters a la American Horror Story. (Or in a 'framing' prologue for season 2.) This should be their series bible: Season 1 - SHOGUN Season 2 - Shogun: GAI JIN Season 3 - NOBLE HOUSE Season 4 - Noble House: TAI PAN Season 5 - The King Rat Season 6 - Noble House: WHIRLWIND

During the Big Bang Theory, Chuck Lorre and the writers repeatedly denied that Sheldon had autism, OCD, or any other neuro-atypicality. This was likely because Sheldon was never meant to be the focus of the show and any jokes about him could have come across as mean spirited.
