MEGAN DOES PATTAYA - Some of the most pristine beaches in Thailand within easy reach - Fabulous 103
The beautiful island of Koh Samet is a little 6.5km long island is known for it’s white sand beaches, delicious fresh seafood, fire shows, and relaxing bars. Being located conveniently close to Pattaya and Bangkok, many locals often travel there for a weekend getaway.
Located just off the coast of Rayong, around a 1 hour drive, and a 15 minute speedboat ride, or 45 minute ferry from one of the many piers in Rayong, all offering different ferry services to the island.
Ferry services are available to both Wongduan beach, and the Nadan Pier, with a fee of only 100 baht per person for a round trip to and from the pier, departing every hour between 7am and 6pm. Speedboat services are also available and can take you to any beach of your choice, with prices starting at only 200 baht per person, per ride.
When you arrive on Koh Samet, you will have to pay a small fee to enter the island and the National Park. 200 baht per person for adults, and 100 baht for children. If taking a speed boat to a beach, you will usually be charged as you get off the boat, otherwise, you will be charged the entrance fee at the pier.
Getting around the island is easy - and cheap! Songtaews will be waiting at the ferry, and they'll travel all the way around the island. The fares depend on the distance you're traveling but usually fall within the ranges of 20 - 100 THB. If you are looking to rent a motorbike, there are rental shops all around the island, the starting price is around 300 THB per day, usually including a full tank of fuel.
The main Koh Samet town lies on a single stretch of road that reaches from Nadan Pier to Sai Kaew Beach. Here, you'll find shops, restaurants, a 7-11, motorbike rentals, and cheaper accommodation on the island
Koh Samet has over a dozen beaches of all different lengths. Most beach names on the island don't begin with the typical Thai word for beach, which is "Haad", but are instead called "Ao", which means 'bay'
- Sai Kaew beach, also known as Crystal Sand Beach is the most popular beach on the island, and is where you will find the most nightlife. Stretching a total of 900 meters, here you can find bars, restaurants, watersports, beach dining, and late night fire shows.
- Next to Sai Kaew beach is Ao Prao, also known as “Paradise Bay”, and is home to some of the most exclusive resorts and expensive restaurants on the island
- Another popular beach for visitors to the island is Wong Duan Beach. Here you can find shops and restaurants, and some beautiful resorts at reasonable prices. At night, fresh seafood is served on the beach, and you can catch a nightly fire show at any of the restaurants.
There are plenty of other things to see and do on the island, such as snorkeling trips, beachside massages, or a visit to Wat Koh Samet temple. Lastly, Koh Samet is popular for it's nightlife, and here, you can find anything from reggae bars, live music bars in resorts, beach bars, and even a small nightclub on the beach. You can sometimes even catch Muay Thai boxing shows, and a full moon parties if you plan your dates correctly.
For such a small island, there are plenty of things to do on Koh Samet, and it makes the perfect quick and affordable weekend getaway.

Good vlog. The island is nice but the very loud music at night (discos') really starts at about 11pm till 3--4am . Not good for sleep especially with for families with kids. Chose your resort carefully!

Wongduan beach was a very quiet place to stay, all bars and restaurants there closed by around 11pm ☺️😴

It depends on where you want your stay. You can find rooms on the ‘main strip’ from around 500 baht a night. We stayed in a very nice bungalow in a resort by Wongduan beach for 1,400/night. Very affordable!
