I do not give much appreciation to the Dinobots because they are not too developed as characters (I agree with your narcissism brute!) I think with time, they would develop more intelligence. IIRC the Swoop and Snarl were going to be speaking as the series grew on, so too would their personalities. They were never given time due to cancellation. I read that the Dinobots are one of the only ones powerful enough to take on Megatron and potentially win [which is why the writers up to Season 3 never had them encounter Megatron directly]. I think with more intelligence, they could take down Megatron. They had some coordination in this animation. They planned attacks with some intelligence that they would not have had in season 3 (even though, this scene takes place during Megatron Rising Part 2]. Though, being an Autobot does not mean one cannot be narcissistic brute. Autobots, as with Decepticons, come in all types. Sunder is an Autobot who has done many horrible things with his mnemosurgeon skills for fun. He does not have many positive qualities.

I just wished the writers started to redeem them earlier like how the one G1 episode did with Grimlock after Megatron manipulated him into betraying Optimus. G1 Grimlock gained a newfound respect for Optimus after he saved his life and become a loyal soldier after. But because the writers didn’t do anything like that, we’re left with the narcissistic dinobots for three seasons. If anything they wouldve worked better as villains like how Sunder and Airwave were (toned down of course) because like you said, not all Autobots are good *cough* Sentinel *cough* . I think kid me would’ve enjoyed something like that more than the Dinobots being horny for a spider chick and not fighting any Decepticons.

I mean outside of the G1 cartoon, Grimlock is usually never a fan of Optimus and viceversa. The Dinobots are the Autobots unfavorites in most versions of G1 because they're too violent and their leader is very haughty. The idea that they're only fond of Prowl and Bulkhead and prefer to be independent seems good to me, especially since they would never be accepted on Cybertron, especially not with Sentinel acting as Magnus. I'm not fond of how they're treated in Black Friday either though, I would've have them poisoned instead. But at least Snarl had no problem helping Sari save the Autobots from Soundwave.

I don't know how narcasist applies here but they're just like the G1 Dinobots... except there's only 3... and Slag is called Snarl... and Grimlock is the only one who speaks... and Megatron technically made them... Well designed them, Issac Sumdac actually built them to Megatron's specifacations. They were literally made as prototypes for potential new bodies for Megatron himself.
