Another gem from our collection of Ustad Mehdi Hassan Khan Saab's mehfil, in our house in Toronto, Oct 8th 1986. We feel truly blessed. Ustad Tari Khan is accompanying on tabla, accompanied by a superb harmonium maestro Asad Ali Khan, enjoy this famous ghazal, penned by a great poet of our time Janaab Zahid Fatehpuri.

Sir, discovered this gem; after listening to another gem posted by you…Na siyo hont. And have been listening to Khan Saheb since my teens in late seventies but hadn’t been fortunate enough to listen to these versions. Eternally grateful to you for sharing this treasure. Will it be impertinent to request if it’s possible to share the video recording of these masterpieces of Khan Saheb?

It would be a failure in my duties if I don't appreciate the excellent tabla support for this ghazal. I also feel that only with the excellent tabla support such ghazals becomes more and more melodious. I record my heart touching feeling for the talented tabla player (probably Ustad Tari Khan) for this ghazal. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Very true. The characteristics of a tablature is that of Peer Buxji. In the photo. Every tabla player has his own. I am keen listener for over 50 years. Have been to several of his concerts in UK and he used to stay with one of my friends who was his promoter in UK and mainland Europe. I have met him a few times. His favourites were Ustad Shaukat Ji , Buxji and Tariji.

Delighted to listen to this magnificent ghazal - penned by Zahid Fatehpuri Saab - in the soulful voice of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab - all over again - ofcourse in a different orientation altogether ! Here, in this ghazal, the great Khan Saab had infused life into the beautiful lafz of Zahid Fatehpuri Saab with the exact feel, as depicted in the kalam, owing to his magical voice and inimitable style of gayiki ! What a wonderful feeling it has been ! I have enjoyed it thoroughly ! "Bahut Hi Sukun Mila Sunkar !" The great Mehdi Hassan Saab was the synonyme of soft, soothing, and soulful music ! Professionalism, Perfection, and Sophistication in performance was the hallmark of the great Khan Saab ! His style of gayiki was pretty simple, soft, effortless, soothing, and soulful but overbearing and very difficult to emulate ! Besides, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab had something divine in his voice, which had set him apart from other singers ! He had given ghazal gayiki a pedestal, which will be very difficult to surpass ! Such a resourceful singer will ever tread this path again in the world ! AMS Studios deserves appreciation for its immaculate choice of uploads ! Effortless variations and truly, heard other very professional singers including Jagjitji ( Peace Be Upon His Devine Musically Soulful Soul ) singing Khansaheb’s ghazals, but that nectarine taste isn’t there for my ears. Sorry it’s not zabeen it’s Jabeen meaning forehead ( Urdu meaning for jabeen is peshani in English it’s forehead) in prayer we prostrate to place our forehead on the ground( prayer mat / mussalla)

پتا نی یار لوگ ایسا کیوں کرتے ہیں ,رفیع صاحب اپنی جگہ شہنشاہ غزل مہدی حسن اپنی جگہ لیکن ہمیں کوئی حق نہیں کہ کسی کا کسی سے مقابلہ کریں. کیوں کہ وہ اپنے دور میں کبھی بھی مقابلہ کیا. کچھ لحاظ کیا کرو. باقی رہی بات مقابلے کی تو مہدی حسن صاحب غزل کے شہنشاہ گانوں کے شہنشاہ سرگم تان پلٹے اور ٹھمری ایسے بہت سی چیزیں ہیں اور ہر راگ میں گا سکتے تھے اور ایک بات مزے کی یہ ہے کہ جو بندہ بیمار ہوتا اسے خان صاحب گانا یا غزل سناؤ تو وہ ٹھیک ہو جاتے اور جو روٹھ جاتے تو اسے بھی غزل یا گانا سناتے تو وہ بھی ٹھیک ہو جاتے واہ کیا بات اے. اور دھنیں اور راگ خود تیار کرتے تھے اور آواز کرارے نوٹ کی طرح صاف تھی اور آواز میں درد بھی بہت تھا سمجھ بوجھ بھی زیادہ تھی. بلکہ یوں کہیں کہ مہدی حسن صاحب کا کوئی مقابلہ نہیں کر سکتا. اور رہی بات رفیع صاحب کی ان میں یہ بہت سی کم تھی اور رفیع صاحب بھی اچھے تھے اور مسعود رانا صاحب جسے گاتے تھے
