There's a not insignificant amount of "clips of Mew2King getting bodied" to "stage is now banned per backrooms" on this list, I'm just saying

While I mostly get the reasons stages are the way they are in melee, ultimate's legal stage list kills me. The game has like 50+ stages and not even 10 of them are legal. They could just allow the battlefield and fd variations for the sake of different backgrounds, but some idiot will complain because you can wall-jump off the bottom end of certain ones, or the blastzones don't line up perfectly on each version.

Fun fact: the “banzai bill” from the Mario movie was actually called a “boomer bill” Some people seem to think Boomer bill is a replacement for the Banzai bill and it’s actually the same enemy,… but it’s not. It’s a unique type of bill and the Banzai still exists. How do I know this? Because the Boomer bill is a reference to the Lego Mario sets. Lego Mario invented a new type of bill because Bullet bills were too small and Banzai bills were too big for the Lego set. So they made a middle ground enemy. And they put that in the movie for some reason

Got into watching competitive Melee back in 2013 kinda because PS2 was legal. It made me think "oh cool these competitive players still respect the fact that Smash has funny stages, as long as it’s not too janky", it bridged my Smash experience until then and the competitive scene and hooked me

Melee should just fully say fuck nintendo and use those custom 20xx stages

We used to have hype sets on Pokefloats and killed the Ice Climbers with that stage. Never forget what they took from us.

Idk what this video is about but even though I've never played it and won't for a while, melee will never loose its charm to me because its community never looses its charm, i could hear meleehead stories for hours on end and not get bored, that's like 40% of why I LOVE the yard!

I remember seeing a tournament once where the rules were reverse legal stages in Melee That was a fun spectate

the capcom jojo fighting game has different stages and which one you get is randomly picked depending on the characters, but the thing is differnet stages actually have different lengths corner to corner, so you’ll randomly have a stage that’s either two screens wide or eight. also one stage has a weird piece of decoration that’s in the foreground so you can hide behind it and it’s very funny

as much as i hate fox pickers, i feel like a lot of people in chat missed the point in thinking these bans were due to fox players whining, probably because the original video's framing is a little weird in some spots. the reality is that it was the opposite; everyone else complaining about foxes abusing 90% of the banned stages to make the game not fun to play. pretty win/win where we ended up but we should still bring rainbow cruise back

Backrooms were so cool growing up. It was always a dream to become a good enough player to get an invite, kinda like what you said lol. I became disillusioned with them around 2012 because I just wanted MK and Icies brought under control and realized it would never happen

I wish more people like alpharad would make casual tournaments. Those are just so fucking fun. Mind you if you wanted the billionaire to make the worst rules possible, make them do coin battles :P

The last part of this - big tournament, huge cash prizes all the way down, a ruleset no competitive player would willingly touch if not for the money? That's what I always hoped Nintendo would do. So you'd have the grassroots scene running its own thing for "competitive integrity", but then you have a Nintendo-run tournament series where people go to make money. And people would train for both. "Labbing items" would be a legitimate thing. Ideally the skill gap between a player that's been playing for 1-2 years and a player that's been playing for 5-10 would only be 60-40 in the veteran player's favor in the tournament with the RNG/hazards on - pros would win more often, but you'd never have a scenario where someone has 2+ years of experience, shows up to a tournament, and there's still no point in them plugging in the controller because one of the top 10 players of the game is just going to wipe them off the face of the earth and there's no chance for anything other than that to happen.

That backroom stuff seems like just a smash bros thing. I play Fighterz, Street Fighter, and Guilty gear and none of those communities have anything like that that I have seen.

I love how much of Melee and Brawl's history and bans is just M2K, Mango, and other top players not wanting things or getting beat

I still play Temple with my other competitive friends, we only play in the middle and bottom area

I feel like stadium is more intrusive than other stages.... So unban the other stages :)

I'll need to remember "Like a raging bull" since that's how I also play these days. Though in Ultimate I also main Bowser so yeah he's combo food at first, but every single stock you WILL be fighting a Bowser with rage and one that fights like a man with nothing to lose.

Outside of a few examples, most fighting game players don’t play for fame or whatever like smash players do. It’s weird that they do. I guess when you start calling your top players “god” that will start to happen.

Either these reasons are not the only reasons these stages are banned, OR we currently have no reason to have any banned stages in ultimate, bc almost every reason given does not apply to ultimate. Are walk offs really ONLY banned bc fox can wave shine? Well he can’t in ultimate. Are walls really ONLY banned bc shine infinites?? Again not in ultimate. So either there’s other reasons the guy didn’t say, or ultimate stages are banned for tradition.

I miss Anther’s ladder and netplay bedore Slippi. Played way more teams and sometimes with items on every stage. Was way more fun than going full sweat 1v1.
