People ask "did you send out an ICP test" because it is such a valuable diagnostic tool. Which not enough people are utilizing. No one knows for certain, unless you can test for it. And while ICP is not a silver bullet, it's testable range is nothing short of impressive. One of the real problems: you need a sample most when something went wrong. But, not many people seem to keep a spare empty test just sitting around.

I love the fact you combine taking comments and suggestions from the peanut gallery with reaching out well known reefers to figure out this crash and address it! On the chiller, i have one plumbed in. It has water circulating in it, but it only kicks on whether the temp hits about 82F. I do run it once a month for 30 minutes (and let the heater fight it) to keep the compressor healthy (they don't like to sit for long periods unused is my understanding. Maybe once a year or so i clean the chiller lines and coil by run citric acid through them, and rinsing with salt water before hooking back up.

Thats $150 dosing pump does all three. It does plans/schedules, manual mode, and continuous. Just so ya know.

Marc I agree so much with you with low potassium issues, I consider knowing that as important (sometimes more) as calcium. And I ICP mine and dose it. I’ve been trying to show it’s importance for more advanced reefers here in Brazil.

Reverse cycle suitcase insurance would be available at your swimming pool store, would assume winter would provide good prices at a pool company.

Hi Mark, I run a ICP at work and test my water 5 times a week lol 😂 not practical obviously but it’s great to pick up rust, and swings in major elements. I would not worry about traces so long as it’s not overly elevated. Even 0 trace doesn’t make a tank crash. And ICP results for low level trace is still not super accurate in lab terms. So you can run the same sample twice and there may be a slight difference. Maybe 5% or more

Has anyone had issues with ICP-ANALYSIS? I sent 2 samples from my tank taken about 2 weeks apart. 1 came back more or less as expected, 1 came back nearly all 0s. I emailed customer support and they claimed I sent them 1 sample of tank water and 1 of RODI. I know what I sent and labels to match. This has me kind of concerned they are just making up the results......

Sodium and chlorine will be high. Together they are salt. In fact if you add them together it near enough comes out at 26ppm

I’m a huge advocate of high Potassium. 450-500 is my ultimate goal 👌
