I know, but there is such a thing as doing the right thing for the wrong reasons. For Melisandre, it was always about serving the Lord of Light and little else. If that same Lord of Light had asked her to kill every man, woman, and child in Winter fell, she would have done it without a second thought. But apparently this is a god who likes to be worshipped by the living, so it asked her to do the opposite. I can't even imagine what her childhood was like. Sold into slavery and packed off to Asshai, a place of darkness with no children and little joy beyond the perversions that go on there, raised by a cult of fire worshippers and necromancers to be the fanatical instrument of an inscrutable deity.

Lady Melissandre was such an amazing, complex character. For all her flaws and evil deeds, she was devout and a true-hearted ally of the living. She really meant what she said when she said she wanted only to help good triumph over evil. There was no selfishness or ulterior motives, unlike a lot of people in the GoT world.

In the beginning I hated Melisandre. And of course this hate intensified when she burned Shireen. But she always fascinated me as a character. And especially after she came to Castle Black and her belief was way nore humble I really began to like her. Stannis' loss and Davos confronting her really brought her down to earth and she started to see through the illusions she had for her belief. One of my favorite scenes from Seven 7 was when she was talking to Varys on that cliff, because they are both great actors, fascinating characters und really important in this "acting in the shadows"genre. I was really happy to see her, even though I did expect her to bring other Red priestesses from Volantis with her or the Fiery Hand even. But nontheless it was great seeing Melisandre in this amazing episode and having the focus on her quite often. If we say other characters did redeem themselfs like Theon then we definetly need to say the same about Mel. And she had a fantastic end for her. She came to peace with herself and the world. Sold as a slave, used and humiliated, she found hope in her belief, only to become a fanatic. But then she realised that her belief doesn't need her to burn children or kill with shadowmagic. So she became humble. She brought together Ice and Fire (and did we hear that phrase ever before in the show?). And now she brought Arya to being the absolute MVP this episode. Goodbye Melisandre! You were a great addition to this show and hopefully you found your way into the light. I also liked Carice van Houten's personality and knew her before I started watching GoT from her performance in the Movie "Black Book".

@RandomNetizen Yeah the Dothraki and the morons commanding them sucked (can't blame Mel for that) but they would no doubt have sucked harder without the flaming swords. Also, the spell allowed the Unsullied & knights of the Vale to witness how badly the Dothraki got defeated and so to prepare themselves. Melisandre knew they weren't going to last long, hence why she said "Valar Morgulis" to Grey Worm to remind him that soon the Dothraki would all be dead.

You know, you may be right. I'd always thought she was just in shock that she was almost eaten, and saved at the last moment, but since you said that I remembered she'd read messages from the lord of light within flames and interpret them. Now that I look back at her expression and the flames reflected in her eyes, she really did see a vision, and she guided Arya from that point. Awesome observation!

I really like that none of the gods have any proof, and that anything attributed to them can be explained by people that possess magic within themselves. Even the "old gods" of the northmen and their sacred trees were explained as being connected to the children of the forest, not a true god. Some in this world are born with magical blood, like the Valyrians, so it's only natural that there would be other bloodlines with their own brand of magical ability. Melisandre's belief in her god could have been a channel for belief in herself, and that strengthened her magic. The fact that she was also a seer capable of reading visions within fire, like Brann, made her even more powerful. She was a spectacular gray character, one of the best created, imo.

@4:24 Finally, not so ominous background drop for the Lady Melisandre. Sacrificing Shireen was her lowest point and this was her highest and right up there among the greatest moments in all the series for all characters

Along with all of this, Melisandre reminded Arya who the f#@! she was to get after the Night King. Melisandre was one of the most valuable players throughout that battle.

4.39 sums up the shitty writing we got in season 8. Jon and a dragon were 10 foot from the pit when she lit the fire. He is meant to be blinded by the storm so can't see the signal. Instead him and Rheagal are on a coffee break and they can see exactly what is going on.

She knew she was going to die during or after the battle, and decided to stay and help. ❤️ She completed her task and died peacefully ❤️❤️
Say what ye will, but R'hllor is the only GOT god to actually do something during the "apocalpyse"

Melisandre was kind enough to turn on the lights because seems R’hllor was taking a break this whole episode.

I love how there is literally a fire breathing dragon right there, but they still need Melisandre to light it. Hilarious

Jon couldn't leave his post because he was busy defending Bran incase the Night King approached him while Jon was on the battlefield. Dany and Jon had no idea they were needed because they couldn't see any signals of urgence. This was until Melisandre lit the trench, and Dany found her way back while Jon stayed for a while until he knew where the Night King was.

If that's the last of the Lord of Light theme that we're going to hear then it was a fucking epic way to go out.

That Dothraki would never let her touch him, Dothrakis hate witches. However she was the real hero of this episode because thank to her we could see at leqst something.
