Melissa McCarthy and Javier Bardem spoke with Access Hollywood's Scott Evans about their epic transformations in "The Little Mermaid." Javier, who plays King Triton, explained how he had to learn to make "fishy moves" and Melissa, who plays Ursula, revealed how long it took to transform into the sea witch. The pair also raved over Halle Bailey's performance as Ariel and Melissa admitted that she cried the first time she heard Halle sing. "The Little Mermaid" hits theaters May 26.

You can tell the cast and crew adore Halle. They take every opportunity to rave about not only her performance and talent but also her character. I'm glad she has this support bts in the face of everything else. The best person for the job got the job and that person is Halle Bailey. She deserves all the love in the world. She even has the naysayer critics admitting she was perfectly cast

I’m so curious about Vanessa too and how they’re going to do the switch with Ariel’s voice. Already Halle’s voice seems so ‘Disney’ but also unique - it’s going to be interesting to see someone else mime her voice

I've been a die-hard Melissa McCarthy fan, since the "Mike and Molly" sitcom days, and to watch her continue to build an impressive portfolio, while starring in box- office hit after hit, makes me so proud! She's always had that "it factor", for sure. With both Academy Awards and Golden Globes on her belt, there is no one else (in my opinion) who could've done a better job at playing such a commanding role as Ursula. Melissa definitely added a Broadway spin to this character! Simply put, the entire cast knocked this one out of the park!!!! Congrats to all!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Does Tiana mean nothing anymore? Why are we treating her as the first POC princess? We had Mulan, Pocahontas, Moana, brandy in Cinderella??? Halle is not breaking any ceilings in fact she’s following in footsteps.
@calypso_lazuli
@calypso_lazuli Жыл бұрын
I think it is the political climate that we’re in where outwardly outspoken racists made it a bigger deal than than it was so people retaliated against them.. I distinctly remember when Brandy was in Cinderella, at a time when a black female actor playing a role intended for a white woman was rare and they didn’t make it about her race…. people also seem to have forgotten that Auli'i Cravalho (the voice of Moana) also played Ariel and Queen Latifah played Ursula and it was nothing as hyped as this. I think too Halle Bailey does appear to be a genuinely nice adorable person with a voice quite similar to Jodi Benson so that may play a part too.
@barbarjinks8170
@barbarjinks8170 Жыл бұрын
@@calypso_lazuli have you noticed the battle is being played from both sides though? Disney cast a black girl because they knew it would please the 10% of liberals on twitter who complain about EVERYTHING, and then tried to act like it was nothing when they received backlash for it. The backlash, yes was racist in places, but honestly I saw a lot of confused people trying to figure out what exactly Disney was trying to sell them. People are tired of propaganda no matter where it comes from. And lately Disney has been treating their movies, and the production of their movies, like propaganda.
@calypso_lazuli
@calypso_lazuli Жыл бұрын
@@barbarjinks8170 I think you’re vastly uninformed!!! I’m a HUGE Little Mermaid fan and rumors about a “black” Ariel have surfaced since several years ago and that is when the racists went to social media to complain. I distinctly remember this and this was WAY before the Queen Latifah + Ursula thing happened. I’m 100% sure Disney capitalized on it because Queen Latifah coming up as Ursula was out of left field… but let’s not pretend that if racists didn’t have a problem with a black Ariel switch in the first place we wouldn’t be in this debacle and Disney would have probably just chosen another white actress instead. Big corporations are going to capitalize off of controversy.

@@barbarjinks8170 the director himself said she set the bar for the audition and NO ONE surpassed her she was not casted for a quota but for her talent. Ariel is a fish whose race doesn’t matter. Just her mannerisms and voice Halle embodied both the best. She got the role. Simple. There is no woke liberal mob you people are delusional fr.
