The Scam Stuff warehouse is filled to the brim with styrofoam packing materials. After Brian got bored with swimming in the foam pit like Scrooge, he demanded we get rid of all of the styrofoam specifically in such a way that would also give him primitive weapons.

Does Stephen Hawking get well paid for lending his voice to this entertaining channel!? As for the stryo-shivs you should've started with a broom handle, moulded the clay around it and then filled the mould with the goop. If that didn't work just do what I did as a kid and write your name in the fresh 'fire paste' and light it up as we never thought to make weapons with it as we taped nails onto train tracks and used them as weapons and arrow heads. The childhood years of mischief hahaha!

@@CubicApocalypse128 They do, and in different hardness/densities, too, but it's got a very different texture from either of those foams. As an amateur prop maker, I use the stuff a LOT as sculpting material that I later turn into master molds that then are filled with resin/epoxy. It's very easy to work with, sands beautifully. It's EXTREMELY different from these two kinds of styrofoam. The crumbly bead kind that they used is impossible to sculpt/sand, and the other brittle "flower foam/craft foam" is also horrible to work with, but you can get away with using it as a frame of sorts for some projects. You just have to cover them with fiberglass and resin. So yeah, good info, just making sure everyone knows that they're VERY different kinds of foam, even though I think they're all polystyrene?
@CubicApocalypse128
@CubicApocalypse128 4 жыл бұрын
@@wren7195 Yeah, craft foam is kind of garbage. What's even worse is that really crumbly green floral foam. You know, the stuff kids can't stop digging their fingers into at Walmart. (seriously, I've never seen a single piece of that stuff that doesn't have huge finger dents in it.) The "crumbly bead kind" isn't impossible to sculpt, you just need a hot wire tool to do it. I made some broken stone pillars with it for a stop-motion set once.

@@CubicApocalypse128 Oh wow that'd be neat, I saw them doing that in some of the "making of" things for Lord of the Rings, it'd be really cool to see your work on the stop motion project. @@wren7195 I'm not sure if I still have the final animation somewhere. I do have some photos of the set, but the lighting we used really didn't show it off. The concept was, a guy fights a giant snake on a pile of sand in a flooded underground chamber. It was a first-semester final project, and one of the other guys in my group insisted on only using a single dim light, centered directly above the action. I went to all the trouble of painting a sheet of styrofoam green and dabbing hair gel on it to look like water, but thanks to the lighting I might as well have just used a black tablecloth.

You guys made lots of mistakes this episode. First of all, you used way to much acetone and not enough styrofoam. You need to keep adding styrofoam until the paste has the density of very stiff bubble gum. Because you had so much acetone, when it evaporated, it left lots of big bubbles and not enough plastic. Second of all, don't use a mold. You need to shape it by hand. Make it very thick. Hit the "dough" a few times to eliminate air bubbles (there will be very tiny air bubbles, no problem). And then, let it dry for about 2 weeks and you have a very hard plastic. Trust me, I have lots of experience in this.

A lesson every woman has learned in her life. Do NOT put fingernail polish remover in a styrofoam cup. Also, I did make something out of the blob of melted styrofoam and it was hard plastic. But I molded it with my hands (gloved of course) and didn’t pour it in a mold. Try not making it so thin and then shaping the goop like dough.
