Curious if heating that metal up before welding would of helped any An could u of used hardening rod

Hey, just a quick tip. When repairing any crack you should absolutely trace the crack down to both ends and then drill them out.

It’s good to see other people setting something down and coming back when the right idea comes along. I’ve accomplished so much more with that mind set on some things.

Sometimes it’s a small world. I have a box blade that needs a few similar repairs. Watching the video I noticed some of the trees were similar to my region of Florida, then I noticed the “352” and Hernando tags, then I saw the Brooksville and Lutz tags in the description. Good job with thinkin outside the box. A lot of times my go to method ends up bein comealongs and bridge clamps. The spray paint trick was pretty neat. If I don’t have a transfer punch I’ll use an old mag drill bit and the center pin for my punch. It’s a lot quicker than layin shit out

So when you're pulling that piece with the chain binder, as you're pulling tension, start to tap that high spot. You'll slowly start to see that eye brow start to relax. It's all in deflection of the metal. As a Pile Driver, I'm all for brute force force and foul language. But, just a tip to make life easier some times

Anytime welding 7018 up hill . You want that rod at a 45 degree angle and it won't crown as much . It will suck out more instead of sucking out into the center of the weld . I like the channel . I don't think your a idiot.

I've been watching your channel quite a bit now just subscribed. just curious do you have any certifications and how hard is it to start a mobile welding business? I've been welding for a little over 4 years now.

I haven't been able to get ahold of a welding machine or helmet yet but I was wondering if inside the torch or weld if there's a welding pool measure that's not visible without goggles?

yea i have a way to cut the holes just as fast actually. Dewalt makes really good step bits. recently i was working on a bridge that had 1" plates we needed to drill threw .. I drilled a 1/4" starter hole with the same dewalt bits i bought. then used the step bit with wd 40 and it blasted threw it . i drilled 8 holes in 10 mins.

Those porta-power hydraulic units are weak, in my experience. Their place is thin sheet bodywork, from what I know. Jam a 20 ton bottle jack in there and smack that thing around and might come around. I was surprised and impressed that that chain binder had the leverage.

I edited this in after I watched and commented a lot: I like to comment as I watch because I actually care about learning the skills I am trying to understand and you are teaching, so here we go. Thanks for pointing out your 7018 rod use. What did you start off with, was it 6010 like later on? I know clearly a stupid question, but I have only had two welding classes, one using flux core/mig, and the current one using 6018 and 7018. When using the D rings, I would have worn a helmet, not just a face mask. ;-) Your other tips are great. Sorry if I am wasting your time MMA. But as a side note I was a physics student once, and do actually have an Economics degree, and I am a 21 year veteran back in school again. So, for you professional welders out there, you're doing better then me at this game now, but hopefully with the help of MMA, I will catch up soon...

sometimes when you have a crack it is good idea to take a small drill bit and drill out just past the end of the crack to ensure it does not continue or just grind out well past the end of the crack as you may have done. the crack or weakened metal usually continues past what is visible

You amaze me sometimes on how you do things. It looks like you just started welding and cutting. You drilled out all those holes for nothing. The angle would’ve been stronger if you wouldn’t had cut those holes but you wanted them to match. To me your not up there yet to be charging so high. You need to get more experience under your belt. You do try I give you credit on that but sometimes I think your in the wrong field of work. You go home and think about what ur going to do next to the project. Like I said you amaze me. Lol.
