Watching a project you've personally worked on make significant progress is really an extraordinary feeling, and all of us at the Simpson Railroad had that experience last memorial day weekend.
For the first time since the railroad's rebirth in 2017 as a nonprofit organization, the Simpson Timber Railroad offered locomotive-hauled train rides, operating within the confines of Green Diamond's Stillwater Industrial Park. With a train makeup of our SW900D, numbered STC 900 along with Caboose 201, we offered train rides for all three days of the holiday weekend.
The final day of the operating week, on Memorial Day proper, I relieved myself of conductor duties (thanks Nick for filling in) to shoot video of the train in various locations, both on the loop track and the mainline. With the warm sun burning off the cloud cover and shining onto the Dayton Forest, it was a great day for railroading.
Our customers that weekend, both young and old, left with smiles on their faces and new stories to tell their families and friends, and hopefully a rekindled love for the railroad.
