I was born the day Jimi played Monterey. I had a pinto for my first car with an AM radio that I tuned to KRLA on lunch breaks and I loved waiting for along comes Mary to get played. Rodney on KROQ often played pretty groovy music in the 80’s. What a cool Jazzmaster! Also remember doctor demento in the 70’s on after the bionic man. Radio had many wild shows back then. We also tuned in those old Spider-Man cartoons with Godzilla movies on UHF after school. Great stories. Groovy.

Your video is spot on!! . . . 68 years young here. . . 15 years old / 9th grade in67 . . . 1967 and on, the late 60’s . . . a time of unsurpassed creativity in music and art. . a time of social and political unrest and change. . fueling our creativity and new found freedoms . . . the albums/music that influenced you on the west coast, did the same for me in New England. . also your comment about FM radio reminds me of how radio’s evolution during that time was a huge part of our evolution . . . moving from American top 40 AM into the underground album oriented acid rock FM stations . . and then there were those big 50,000 watt clear channel stations that you could hear from Cuba & Mexico to Canada . . anyone out there remember the late night acid rock show Beaker Street with Clyde Clifford on KAAY Little Rock (from mid 60s to early 70s)? FYI, Beaker was in reference to LSD, acid, made in a beaker . . ok enough of my rambling. Thanks mazzy for reminders of our youth. Stay well everyone

Hello , saw Soft Machine at Ronnie Scott’s club last Sunday. Great gig , the 80 year old bassist was laying down some distortion fender groove and the 20 something waitresses were dancing ! On the way home we past soho square and MPL Paul McCartneys office. I thought of you , then on the escalator at Tottenham Court Road station. The trash the Japanese fan mail. Heard Strawberry on the radio today and yes , god bless John

I'm about a month older than you Mazzy. July 28th but grew up in Chicago- south side and then the sterile suburbs. Had a transistor radio (AM only) until 1966 then a similar clock radio but it didn't turn off automatically. Listened to the top 40 and then the black stations. Got more into Blues than rock. We moved to the burbs. My art teacher in jr high one day said this record just came out, she turned down the lights for us to listen and encouraged us to draw. It was Sgt Peppers. At that time my mom got a job at AMPEX where they made all the cassettes. (AMPEX = Alexander M Poniatoff plus EX from excellence). She was hearing all these new songs from the tapes. She bought me some good stuff. I bought lots of the tapes rather than so many LPs- but I had some of those and more. A few years later I got a part time job as a janitor at the AMPEX factory. Would play the company reel to reel in the halls as I was buffing the floors. Heard some amazing tunes. In college I became a hardcore record collector, had about 1000 LPs in my dorm room but at first only played on one of those all in one "stereos" with the flip down turntable like you had. Got a better "setup" after a year or so. Most of those early 66-67-68 pysch and blues records are among my favorites. Mazeltov

Really have been enjoying all your videos. But this one in particular because I was born in April of 1967 and the music of that year resonates so much with me for some reason. A lot of the first records I bought when I started buying records, when I was around 12, were from this year. And I relate to your story because I grew up in the Bay Area (San Jose) but went to lots of concerts in S.F.

Came back for another chapter of The Life of Mazzy. My first Studio apt in 1981 had Orange shag carpet. It was the Midwest, we just finally heard about it. I remember well my older brother getting his clock radio. In the middle of NE FM was nonexistent. You just had to find a channel with no farm reports. Association are still a favorite band. I remember the news talking about SF in 67. Again in NE we thought the world had gone to hand. I just read about Seymour Steins bar mitzvah. Definitely a big deal. Thanks for the additional footage. Another enjoyable chapter. Steve

What a wonderful tour of your early teenage years and the tremendous music that came out of that period. I was only 7 years old in 1967, but I remember hearing a lot of those singles on the radio in my parents' car and on the transistor radio that Mom kept in the kitchen. I didn't understand the counterculture movement or anything, but I did really like the music as music. Thanks so much for sharing your stories!

Around 1966 I discovered the soundtrack to Mickey One. Eddie Sauter and Stan Getz. It changed my world. Most significant record for me till Bitches Brew. I saw Miles at Keystone. Right after he released Get Up With It. What an atmosphere in that room... early Weather Report at The Matrix. All kinds of great stuff at Great American. From Count Basie to Stephan Grapelli to Shakti.

Hi Maz. Just watched this one and wanted to tell you that I too am a Virgo (08/31/1947). I left St. Louis in early June of 1967 and headed your way to see what all of the fuss was about. I couldn't believe my eyes when walked out of Golden Gate Park on Haight St. Anyway, it was a magical summer for me and listening to you reminisce brings it all back. Thank You. I remember listening to FM radio and not knowing what I'd hear next. I don't think younger people understand hoe much new music and new artists was being released in those days. No one was able to keep up with all of it. Headed back home on my birthday and I haven't been the same since. In the fall we got out own FM rock station (KSHE) the played the sane kind of music you mentioned until the early '80's when they sold out to a corporation. The first song they played: "Time Has Come Today" by the Chambers Brothers. Keep it up and I'll keep following

Was born the year of the Beatles 64 so I've always been fascinated about the 60's even though I was too young. The 70's was my era with The Partridge Family, Daddy Dew Drop singing "Chick A Boom", Have a Nice Day stickers and many other memories. Still, I Love your childhood stories Mazzy. So vivid. Love the photos. I had similar feelings about death as a youth. I remember how my older brother used to play Lennon's "Imagine" late at night when we would be going to sleep, and, whenever the song "I Don't Want to be a Soldier" came on it used to creep me out and make me think about dying and death for whatever reason. Great video as usual.

In this video you sound like you’re describing my room in 1967 in the San Fernando Valley. I was born in September of 1953. My room wasn’t orange but I had a very large bulletin board on which I’d paste pictures I cut out of music magazines to make a collage that got to five layers thick before I left for college in San Diego. I also had a bed with an end table that another bed slid into to make a couch/ottoman sort of sectional. It had a medieval tapestry design. I too had a clock radio on which I heard the news of the RFK assassination one morning. The guitar I played at the time was a St. George. I’d get my Gibson 330 in ‘68. The main difference between us is that I could not abide vinyl. They skipped, scratched, broke and were a bitch to cue (que?). I listened to cassettes. Only now do I realize why vinyl lovers say it sounds “warmer’, it’s because the pops and crackling sounds like a campfire. I do miss the cover art size since I’ve designed a few myself. Keep up the good work. Rocknrollrehab.com.

It's interesting how many hits were written by already famous artists..... WRITTING ain't easy. That said ,, as can be said of the rolling stones, Beatles and zeplin who did many covers , the treatment is also VERY important.... WHY couldn't John Denver make leaving on a jet plane work despite trying 3 times,,,,, Also, there's a lot of THESE people doing others work that you didn't know were doing that at the time,,, who KNEW or cared about all the covers of black artists event to just my imagination by the stones And artists who people thought wrote their stuff Like Glen Campbell who didn't write any of his Hits... THIS IS TRUE TODAY AS PEOPLE ARE LIED TO IN DIFFERENT WAYS TO MAKE PEOPLE LIKE TAYLOR SWIFT AND ALL THE ONE OR TWO HIT WONDERS FAMOUS.... THIS IS WHY SO MANY DISAPPEAR AFTER A FEW HITS THAT WERE WRITTEN FOR THEM OR THAT THEY CONTRIBUTED LITTLE TO
