My favorite nes sport game was Baseball Stars. I can remember the music in my head right now! Lol

Never tried that one, but you can’t beat the simplicity of sports games on the NES!

I have a story about Final Fantasy. My parents wouldn’t let my brother and I have a Nintendo. In 1990, my brother came home from his first summer job and said we are getting a Nintendo. So we ended up getting it from Lionel Toy Warehouse and renting a bunch of games from Blockbuster. I had a subscription to Nintendo Power and when we got home there was a Final Fantasy strategy guide in the mailbox. We were hooked from the first day. My brother ended up actually buying Final Fantasy. What is also interesting is he bought a Super Nintendo for Final Fantasy 2 (US) and a PlayStation for Final Fantasy 7.

That’s so awesome. It’s amazing the level of detail that we can remember when it comes to these games. The FF strategy guide was a must, even with all of the maps and things that came with the actual game!

My first system was the texas instruments one, i forget the name now but kind of an atari knock off. Didnt get an NES till xmas of 89 i believe but I still have the picture of it. My fav sprots games were Bases Loaded, Tecmo Super bowl, blades of steel and double dribble. I put SO many hours into those! Dragon warrior 1 was the game that got me into RPGs. I understood it, it was just super hard but man it was fun.

I found this video so interesting, until this point I’ve rarely ventured further back than SNES with the home consoles, but after picking up a Famicom in Japan and getting into some of the NES games on switch online it seems a lot more fun than I expected. It’s not NES, but that story you gave about not understanding that RPG but thinking it looked good, it reminds me of Dragon Crystal on the Game Gear; that game looked great but when I was younger I had zero idea as to what was happening 😂 My jam back in the day was Pokémon, I spent ages on that! The first home console I got was the PS1, so a fair bit after the NES, but I still remember all the odd details about games. I remember V Rally was one of the first games I got with it, I later got Colin McRae rally and the thing I thought was revolutionary was that your tail lights smashed if you crashed, I just found it so cool. Thanks for the recs, I look forward to checking a few of these games out!

Thanks for the comment! Dragon Crystal sounds right up my alley too, so I’ll be seeking out a way to try that one. I never got fully into Pokémon, but I love watching indigo league and really want to try some of the games. Which game would you recommend for someone who has never played a Pokémon game before?
