rimmy has a good review out about it. the short version is that gates of hell:ostfront does everything better.

I like how everyone is stating they prefer assault squad 2/gates of hell, completely ignoring the fact that the campaign in assault squad 2 is a copy and paste for each faction with no real narrative to speak of and Gates of hell (atleast last time I played) was damn near impossible to complete without softlocking yourself atleast once. I Will admit, pvp might be better in goh and as2 but I really wish people stopped ignoring the leaps in quality of life MoW2 brings such as being able to build fortifications and having your soldiers actually manouver around in a trench or building on their own to shoot enemies rather than just sit there with a blank stare and torso bent at a 90 degree angle to the side. PS, I really wish people would stop saying goh/AS2 is more realistic aswell. Sure it might have slower turning turrets and historically accurate uniforms but if you are looking for realism go play steel division 2. There is nothing realitic about a tank being completely unable to fire let alone see something 100 meters away. The entire franchise is arcade and thats what makes it fun lol.

Same but I can't tell the difference, To be fair I was not a complete Old player of GOH or MOWAS2 i mostly played it for conquest and coop. never dabble into PVP or the Hardcore mods other when i added Robz for some changes in conquest.

Most of the negative reviews is because its always online and not actually because of the gameplay. While i agree it shouldn't be online for single player, the devs said they will change that soon, though that doesn't stop the rage mob. Edit: This game is a buggy mess and not developed by the company that made AS2 or GoH, might as well not be a Men of War game really. I choose to refund it, might pick it up later when it improves and is like $20.

As far as I'm aware there is still a lot of stuff they are planning on adding. Despite what the steam page says the game is definitely still in a form of early access.

5 player coop

Its been a bit since I played Call to Arms GOH. Its got more content and has had more years of patches ect. From what I remember it doesn't really have full cooperative campaigns with tech tree's ect per player "unless thats changed with updates". More like generated skimishes. But some other GOH vets can chime in here. Depending on how you feel about always online required for this title. For me the multiple 5 player co-op campaigns is the flagship feature. Everything else is struggling to keep up at release.

@CaptainShack the coop on goh is really good. But the tech tree is limited to host and host assigns units to players. But campain is randomly generated

It has direct control. Just Press E or hold control. Its the old style so no cinematic over the sholder or buggy first person modes.

Turn on realism mode then it comes free with the game and removes vehicle HP and empathises good aim for weak spots and module destruction it also reduces infantry HP so the basically die in one shot.

@@brandonsanders2694 it only hides the HP bar and does not change the mechanic, so you just dont know how much punch can it take

@@wiktorszczegielniak3820 sorry but this is incorrect. The devs already said that realism mode changes the mechanics. It hides the health bars on vehicles because they dont exist. The only 'health" bar that stays is the hull cracking. Soldiers health bars stay but are significantly reduced. Tanks have part based damage that cause the vehicle to be done and accurate armor penetration and values.

Direct Control. Yes. But no first person mode that I have seen. Its been fairly horrible in passed titles. Like that modern one. Yikes.

@@CaptainShack fun is subjective. i know it has been a feature. people enjoy all manner of things (I didnt even mention if I enjoyed it or not). first-person is non-critical in an RTS when the game has plenty of other features that need dev-love.

At the moment its an "always online" game. Which is annoying. Some Vets don't like the vehicle health system Some vets seem to be complaining this doesn't ahve the content of other titles in the franchise.

Ammo trucks and fuel trucks auto-refill thankfully. Supply buildings do the same in a zone around them. Reparis are fairly straight forward.

Less small scale micro than AS2, more big scale "micro"

I don't agree with the notions of auto-cover and auto-spreading out. It's an RTS game after all. Real-time strategies. And all part of the fun! I love the freedom of being able to choose exactly where my guys can take cover from and HOW they take cover as well. And always having to remember to spread them out is a good thing because it teaches you the importance of *spreading out your troops in the heat of battle* lol. It's neat! Trying to automate those things specifically would be 1. Too much for the AI to handle, I'm assuming and 2. Makes the gameplay much more dull as a result. And besides, never heard of any such RTS game that actually automates units taking cover and by extension auto-spreading out in said cover, as far as I know. But yeah, I do agree with auto-healing and auto-supplying - that stuff should be a given!!

To be fair, the Men of War games do give you highlighted, virtual previews in how you want your cover to look like in a certain area before wanting to commit your troops to said area, so there's that.

Well, the reality is you really don't know what my opinion is. Unless you've been around this channel for the last decade or more, you probably don't have a clue what kind of games I enjoy. Luckily you do have your eyes and you have the gameplay that you see here. Plus access to tons more content out there to get a wide variety of opinions. Eventually it's going to come up to you on whether or not this game is going to fit your tastes and style.

To be fair though, he never included "review" anywhere in the title whatsoever. It's more simply a general announcement and awareness type of video he made here, as he usually does.

Exactly my thoughts. I'll keep at it for a bit, but I just wish GoH had MoW2's conquest features.

@@Techigai If GoH knew how important a good single player conquest was. MoW2's is at least an eye opener for them.

@@riomio7852 to be fair GoH is a fairly small team. One guy, and a couple volunteers from the community made the recent Germany model upgrades. I’d imagine the MoW2 team is far, far bigger, but I do hope they take inspiration from MoW2 if they can.

I like GoH and all, but MOW2 does make some pretty cool improvements

While always online isn't great I've been having a blast with it playing the coop. Funny enough I've also been having a blast with Hell Divers 2 and Homeworld which are also always online as well.

Yeah, something is definitely wrong with reviews sitting at 51% mixed last I checked on steam.

While it might be different than the previous games, it dosent look as bad as other real time strategy games being released today.

gates of hell was a lot worse on release back in 2021 and lack content for a higher price compared to this game. Offline is the next update the devs have said calm down. Reviews are the same thing when complaining: “no offline” = it’s coming be patient / “tank HP” = Turn on realism mode it’s a option in game / “Buggy” = show me a game that isn’t buggy - helldivers is way worse.
