Today we're talking about men carrying purses and asking if men shouldn't carry bag. At the end of the day, it shouldn't matter. Who cares if a man chooses to carry a bag to carry his stuff? Whether it's a rugged messenger bag, or a Louis Vuitton Speedy- at the end of the day, it shouldn't matter.

This year I'd love to add more pieces from Hermès like the Birkin size 40, Constance, 24/24 and Bolide. Maybe I'll be bad and get an Hermès Kelly 40! I also recently fell in love with the Chanel Jumbo- so that's kind of a must-have for my collection, along with a Chanel Mini Rectangle and a Chanel Reissue. Aside from those, I'd love to add a few more Fendi Peekaboo bags to my collection along with a Fendi Baguette. Make sure you subscribe to see what I buy this year!
If you're into channels that include luxury fashion, shopping, luxury unboxings and reveals, luxury travel, and daily vlogs- basically anything that has to do with life and style, then this is the channel for you! We'll often talk about my collection which includes Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Gucci, Fendi, Hermès, Coach and YSL. We'll also look at current trends and upcoming releases from each of the houses.

Men should do whatever they want. Men can do anything! We live in a equalitarian society. Women do what they want and we have to respect that men do and wear what they want. It´s simple. At the end of they day, it´s just bags. People need bags to carry their stuff! Yesterday I went to a store that sold bags and wallets. I liked a men's wallet, but the color I liked was rare from the brand. I told the saleswoman that I liked the color but wanted it in red. And she said that although there was a collection of men in red who didn't make red wallets, there were other things. I said no, I wanted a red wallet. She then started with a great story saying that the brand didn't produce the wallet in red because men didn't buy it. And I said: I'm a man and I would buy it! And she started with a big unnecessary story saying that there were no wallets in the brand for men like me. I felt highly offended and ended up treating her badly. As men, we not only fight for the right to wear what we want to wear, we also fight for the right to be who we are and have the sexuality we want! It's sad and we have to fight this shit

🤎👜 If ANY man wants to carry any kind of bag that's HIS choice to do so and it shouldn't be a concern of anyone else's. I say to each his/her own, you have one life so live it however you want. And a fabulous bag ALWAYS helps make your day better. And Caleb I hope your day is gorgeous today!! Take care!

I’m a man who carries bags and as long as I can afford them I will carry them, recently my mother and I had lunch and she ask does it not bother you for people to stare at you. My response was no of course not, I’m fabulous and some people just can’t handle my fabulousness lol. I have so much to say on this topic, but as a woman over 50, experience has taught me many hard lessons. One of them being, you will absolutely regret wasting your precious time on this earth worrying what other people think. I know it’s easier said than done, but is truly an abomination and disrespect of your own life. Wear what makes you happy, period. ❤

Thank you for posting this video and sharing your thoughts. I'm a 52 year old guy and live in southern California and I struggle with this topic on a daily basis. I've started collecting smaller bags (LV) that I absolutely love but I still seem to turn to my more "masculine" type bags when I leave the house. I'm trying to get over this fear, if you will, because I just want to be me all day, every day, but it's still a struggle. I love your channel and your positive attitude is very welcoming. Fantastic topic! Oh, I love Siah. His former channel, Men on Bags, is what introduced me to the idea of men carrying bags. Even though I grew up in a huge city it wasn't something I saw. Now there are so many men in the luxury bag space on KZfaq that the concept has become normalized to me. When I see men carrying bags in person, though, it still catches my attention because it's something out of the ordinary. Ooh, what you said, "Trying to make my presence more palatable to other people." That's deep. There's a lot to unpack there. Thanks for opening this conversation!

Thank you, Autumn! Siah is such a joy, I hope he comes back to KZfaq! I really appreciate your input, and you're right, the male KZfaq luxe community is definitely growing, and I love seeing and supporting new faces! And sadly, it's so true, growing up gay in a rural town, you learn all these behaviors in regards to your surroundings, that you spend so much time as an adult trying to unpack and unlearn it all. I'm doing a lot better these days! I'd love to hear your input on the topic too!

I find myself carrying more and more everyday. I’m only 5’7” 135 pounds. But have feared for wearing a bag because of my size as an easy target for dismay. I’ve always loved purses and if someone can’t understand that I don’t want to carry everything I want in my pockets, I’m not sure why they care. Even my own husband is uncomfortable with me carrying or to be around me sometimes with a amazing bag. I’ll leave him home if I need to, but now he’s started to carry one more now too. ❤ I love your channel. Thank you for making this segment honey. Hugs from Oklahoma.

This is such a great topic, Caleb. If you delve into the Middle Ages and I assume even prior to that men and women have had to carry crossbody bags, bags attached to their belts, pouches and coin purses made of leathers and fabrics. Men should be able to carry whatever style bag they enjoy and serves their lifestyle. Thank you, Caleb, for a great thought provoking topic and thank you, Zane for the editing, your pop-up comments always make me smile.♥

as a gay man who enjoys fashion bags and accessories, this made me feel seen. i love and carry all my bags (mostly vuitton) proudly an d happily. i live in miami (sadly) and if I'm in the suburbs it may get a look, but most of the time people will say "i love your bag" or something along those lines. i used to be scared when i started my bag journey (in new york, so way less scrutiny) but before long it just became second nature. i just discovered your channel recently (and subscribed!) and wanted to say thank you for this space to allow us to feel validated and more connected to others who also love bags!

I want you to know how much I appreciate your vlog and your perspective. I have found that carrying a bag in rural America is becoming completely acceptable, I don’t ever have anyone challenge my bag carrying self. I just approach it from a place of comfort with myself. If I’m confidant and if I’m walking in the energy of feeling good about me, that energy affects those around me and no one even questions my bag. So, for me it’s about authenticity, if I feel good about carrying a bag others don’t even notice. Be authentic and be confidant!!! ❤❤ Thanks again for your voice! Keep the videos coming!

I just discovered your channel tonight and I am now a fan. As a gay man from the south, now living in the Midwest, I love to see people being their authentic self. I am a lover of bags in general and I’ve been struggling with the idea of buying and carrying some bags that I really like, here in the U.S. The Europeans are much more open when it comes to men carrying bags and I’ve fit right in carrying a luxury bag while traveling throughout Europe. It seems to me that male Hollywood actors aren’t frowned upon when carrying a bag that would normally be seen on a woman. It’s a stigma here in the U.S. that will take more time for people to get past. It is my hope that men will feel more comfortable carrying whatever they want, especially in larger and more progressive cities. Keep up the good work!

What a wonderful message. I think anyone has the right to carry whatever makes them happy. It may be harder for men, but it this also applies to women. I come from Miami, FL to living in a town in Michigan with a population of less than 500. I get eyerolls left and right whenever I’m carrying anything that isn’t Coach or a non branded bag. I even get eyerolls or stared down on certain Coach bags. You can’t please everyone so might as well do YOU!

Love this video! Like you said, I have way too much to stuff to carry to just be shoving them in my pocket. I don't think I've ever really gotten weird stares from carrying my bags, but then again my style is very boring so none of my bags are "out there" and typically wear them crossbody. From my personal observation and being guilty of doing it myself, the stares only happen when I see guys carrying their bags top-handle or when the bag style leans a little more to what I deem a little too soft for my personal style.

I started carrying bags when I was 20 and now that I’m 23 I can’t go anywhere without mine (Gucci Jackie 1961) and I feel so empowered when I do because it’s advertised as a unisex bag but is historically a women’s bag. Being in Texas makes it interesting when I stop to get gas and get weird stares but once I’m in the city I get tons of compliments. Both sides of the coin.

i live in new york city and there are men who are breaking the boundaries of gender norms wearing more feminine clothing etc out and about everyday. And I really credit them with inspiring me to feel more comfortable being who i am, which is why channels like this are so amazing, so people can see others who are the same as them. the huge ways in which other people put themselves out into the world, wearing a purse is nothing in comparison. I'm very lucky to live where most people are accepting but it can still be scary sometimes, worrying about being judged. But more than anything I'm mostly nervous carrying a bag about getting mugged and my bag stolen lol.

Not sure if you'll see this but nice video dude! i think its def a discussion worth having. I only used my pockets when I was younger. Back then people knew I was straight and still would say i was gay just for preferring a messenger bag over a backpack like it was a crime. I'm 27 now, and I carry a bag everywhere for basic items like you listed and overall so i can keep everything in one spot easy access at my hip and have a secure place to hang my jacket. I do think of course location matters to determine the level of judgement one might see. In europe and other places around the world men have been carrying bags for a very long time. Most other men I see carrying them are actually foreigners. So it seems to me America is behind on this topic. In my city in California you'll see men with purses or just wearing things that have always been marketed for women in general. Whereas in a small town if they even see a man so much as having painted nails it throws them off because they aren't exposed enough to it. As a side note I am seeing more brands straying away from gendered marketing so thats a plus. Big Bud Press for example is a cool place where everything in unisex. In my opinion i think it makes shopping easier lol only thing you would need is your measurements but thats for clothing 😂

I loved this comment, and I'm glad you're doing you and carrying the bag you want! It just makes sense to have all our stuff easy to grab, plus bags are cool! I love having a cool bag on me- it feels like it completes the look in my opinion. Yes!!! Men need to carry bags. My husband wears his dopey fsnny pack, but always needs more room and drama stuff in my bag and then gets snotty if I don't have room. I've bought him a lovely messenger bag hoping to get him into it. He appreciates my LV bags and have taken him to.peruse the lovely mens bags. He's over 70 and it's hard to change. I see many men now a days with great bags and I love it.

Caleb, it’s a great topic and honestly in my area you don’t normally see men wearing handbags of any kind they usually use backpacks or maybe a messenger bag, and now the bum bags are becoming popular for men around here. Now when I go on vacation usually cruise 🚢 vacations there’s a lot more variety of what men carry and it’s great. I have to admit I do stare at times, BUT it’s because I’m trying to figure out what it brand it is 😂 especially if I like it. I think with time and exposure of men wearing smaller bags over time it will become familiar to see and hopefully the stares will be much less. If you catch me staring 👀 at you I’m just trying to figure out what the heck Brand you are wearing so flash that label please 😊❤ TFS 👛🛍️🙏🚢🎃

I was honestly bothered a bit, but then I saw what they were wearing...I don't know what's the big deal about it. I needed to see this video today ❤❤❤. Caleb, I’m over twenty years older than you. And I’m still getting used to the idea of men carrying bags. But why? You make a good point…how are you going to carry your things if you’re carrying more than keys, a wallet and your phone? And why can’t it be pretty? I started following Josh James almost 2 years ago because of his love for vintage Coach, though he has since sold off his collection since he wasn’t using it. I also started following Sergio’s Secret, though I thought he was too young (at the time 20-21 years old), immature, and possibly spending too much or taking on debt. I wanted to shake him and tell him he needs to start saving for his future. I did enjoy his purchases and I think he’s changing the direction of his channel if he still decides to continue. Then recently I started following you, Super Dacob, Ed Braun, and Totes Gene. I’m seeing a lot more men in this space. Men carrying bags and pretty bags. My brother started carrying a bag too, but it isn’t pretty. He went for the tactical look. By the way…I’m just a teensy bit jealous that you have a fabulous handbag collection! Enjoy your Birkin!!!

Thank you for highlighting this. Bags can be anything - a gym bag, back pack, satchel, tote, bumbag, messenger, briefcase, plastic shopping bag, clutch, purse, so forth and so on. With my bags, I choose what I need for that day that will fit the event, or look, or how I’m feeling. My bags work for me. I don’t give a high flying what anyone else thinks. I was once asked at an event exactly what I carried (needed to carry) that would warrant wearing my cross body top handle bag. I asked them to take note as I emptied it in front of them with my, keys, wallet, phone, contact lens case, glasses case, sunglasses case, wipes/sanitiser, chapstick, pen and shopping bag. It’s unsightly to walk around with bulging pockets. I didn’t have my knitting with me that day or that would have come out too!

It definitely should not matter that men want to carry handbags but I know that for so many men, especially young men and teenagers, it can be scary to risk doing something against the heteronormative expectations of our culture. IMHO, I say show off those gorgeous bags! Pockets are great (goodness knows I wish more women's clothing had functional pockets), but a bag is super practical, too. I stare at handbags because I love them and I collect them. To dial down the creeper starer factor, I usually try to pay a compliment to the wearer. LOL I think clothes, makeup. handbags, shoes, hair, etc. are all part of the way we humans make ourselves stand out and show our self expression. So while I am not a man, I want to offer my support for any man who wishes to go against "the norm" *blech* and show off their bags.

As a woman, I don’t have this *exact* issue. However, I love fabulous vintage hats. For a long time I just lamented that no one wears hats any more! But then a friend of my mom’s let me in on a life hack: if you wear a fabulous vintage hat and people stare, what’s that to you? There’s no law against wearing them. And probably the stare-er wishes deep down that they were brave enough to do the same. Life is short, wear the hats. It was incredibly freeing! I imagine it’s something similar for men with purses. If I found myself staring (which, rude, sorry about that), it would much more likely be impressed and interested than judgy. Also I live in Texas. A man who would never carry a purse will often wear the craziest blingiest cowboy boots you can imagine!

I have been a bag carrying man since 1993. In Calif it was no big deal, I then moved to KC in 96 and I would occasionally get a look but never had anything negative said to me. I then moved to NY where everyone wore bags. Now we are in a small suburb of Tulsa and I wear bags everywhere here and in the city. I just don’t really care about other peoples opinions, and I have had other gay men tell me they feel like that’s why I never get treated bad. I’m not afraid to hold my own, nor am I going to cater to what other people may or may not be thinking. Confidence is key. I also have noticed in my travels guys are wearing bags everywhere now.

Felt very self conscious until a few years ago. On occasion I receive a nasty comment. The ‘cover-up’ is real. Trauma is a leitmotif for me. I am fortunate to live in a big city but even here there are challenges. Ironically, my bags are IMO, in no way a ‘challenge’ to society or a ‘statement’ about gender or sexuality. "Don't let any one diminish your shine!" I love that, Caleb! Otzi the Iceman lived about 5,000 years ago. He was discovered in 1991, in the melting ice of the Ötztal Alps, near the border of Italy. Next to him, was his backpack filled with his belongings. The Hunter-Gatherer society, which existed about 12,000 years ago, likely saw men carrying their tools in some type of bag. Like you said, how can a man not carry a bag with so many essentials to carry on the go? Kids in grades TK-12, carry their belongings in backpacks, including boys; college too. Do men graduate high school or college and suddenly not need to carry anything with them? Of course not! So this modern day notion of men not carrying bags is absurd. To all the men out there, wear your bags with confidence and joy, and know that in doing so your are carrying on a tradition that dates back thousands of years! Perhaps most importantly, you are breaking modern-day stereotypes and building tolerance in a world that desperately needs to feel love and compassion. Be your authentic self! TFS, Caleb! I hate wallets in back pockets, I have a slim one from Rag & Bone and it’s not bulky at all; however, I carry a back leather bag that I made to work but it’s too narrow, I’m working on a “work bag” that will hold a water bottle, lunch container, sketch book and other items I carry daily. I like being hands free while getting around but I do love the look of a clean black top-handle bag. I have worn bags I’ve made out and about but that’s rare (going out). Some “straight” men will carry a messenger bag or SLING bag or backpack, but at the end of the day they are BAGS. If someone has an issue it’s on them, not us.

OH I have SO many thoughts on this one. First off, and coming from the perception of truly believing in doing unto others as you would have them to unto you, curiosity looks odd/different on everyone. What do I mean? Well, people look at things they are curious about and I do think that a lot of the looks people are giving you may be just that and maybe the person just doesn't have a good "curious" face and it is taken as questioning/hate/dislike. People tend to stare at things that make them think. So, many of the looks you get may be others that you now have thinking...and I wouldn't doubt if many men, especially, think to themselves...."Now *that* is smart, why didn't I think of that". As they lug around pockets full of stuff that would be so much nicer in a bag! I'm especially looking at some dads out there that carry a damn huge diaper bag around for their kids for MUCH longer than is necessary because they never had the great idea to just carry a bag that is much smaller and would carry what they need. :-) I am not naive enough to think though that all looks are curiosity. People have *their* own perceptions on what may/may not be masculine. The important word there being *their*, That is where it needs to stop. At them. Period. Like you said Caleb their issue is just that, their issue and it shouldn't go any further than that. It truly is none of our business what another person thinks of us as long as they don't act on it. I just have always totally thought....treat others how you want to be treated and you know what?? What they are wearing, the color of their hair, their gender preference, their size (this one I have lots of thoughts around) how they physically appear at all is basically a non-issue. It is just SO unimportant as to who they are. That is what I care about, people don't remember what you wore and how you look, they remember how you made them feel...... xoxox to you Caleb and any other person struggling with any of the above mentioned item. The only thing "normal" today, is that nothing is normal and everything is normal.

Surprised it's still a thing to discuss. For the most part of history, a bag was not a fashion item - it was simply a necessity for work and travel. People didn't carry a bag unless it was necessary. Not only most clothes for men and women were fitted with practical pockets, if you were from a fashionable society, your servants would be carrying things for you. 'No bag for man' is really from this old idea - if a man should be carrying a bag unless when travelling, it meant he is a working man, not a part of the elite society. But time's changed and so is the fashion. With the rise of skinny fashion, men couldn't carry anything bulky in their pocket any more - the new category of man bag was born about the same time. Even with the height of skinny now behind, men today carry quite a few stuffs (big ass phone, earbuds, wallet, extra battery), and not many wear tailored jacket any more either (tailored jacket is designed to hang from the shoulder and can actually carry a huge amount in its pockets), so a bag for a man is today a necessity. If you don't care for fashion, a nylon backpack would be suffice; if you care for fashion, you would be looking for something more pleasing to the eye. Simples.

Every person has to carry certain types of identification and there is so much paperwork in France that pockets just aren't enough. He still has a manbag now we're back in Oz, handy for a bottle of water etc etc but men very rarely carry bags here. I don't understand why people have a problem with what clothes people choose to wear, what bags to carry, what has gender got to do with it... 🤔

I live in Sydney, Australia and occasionally I have seen men carrying handbags. And they look amazing. There was this one guy carrying a Dior saddle bag. And my first thought was "wow. he looks amazing." Handbags are just luggage and everyone needs to carry their stuff in something. I think as we go forward men and masc presenting folk carrying things that are traditionally perceived as for one group of people will be more accepted. And I think we all know who is to blame for the culture of men and masc folk not being able to express themselves in more than one way. Beau bloody Brummell. I swear if I could go back and time and put a stop to, it would be him.

as a non-binary, minimal-ish bag hoe ™, I wear my bag w pride and get looks all the damn time lol, but tbh if someone else has an issue, that's their sh*t and not ours. also bags can be used to swat haters away, so they're multi-purpose lmao (jk but am I??). love the video Caleb!

Yes! Yes! Carry if you love it! ❤ That’s what I say! Does it stand out when a man carries a bag? Yes! It definitely turns my head. But…. I’m pretty open minded to an extent and I think a lot of people are. I have noticed men carrying bags for years. I live in Texas and you’ll see it here and there. Some men from Mexico carry bags as well. We have the wealthy Mexican Nationals shop at our malls here. Especially during the Holidays. Mainly comes here when kids have are off from school.

I’m a masc gay guy in his 30’s and I try not to knock people for their choices. One thing that upsets me about the LGBT community is revealing clothing and over-sexualization in public settings, perhaps that’s the reason why there is backlash against us. Gay men have class but don’t act like it sometimes. Man purses for gay guys I could care less about, go right ahead. What I don’t understand straight guys who both sag their pants and carry a purse. I don’t see how women find it attractive or masculine. Living outside of DC many young straight guys do this, even in the hood. I purposely hit on them but I’m baffled most don’t understand why or take offense to it. They’re obviously advertising themself for a man. One day I may get my ass kicked if it’s more than two guys but at least I had fun. 😊

Great vide, Caleb. I don't think the Speedy is either a feminine or masculine bag. I never feel self-conscous carrrying my speedy, but I do with the my Cluny sometimes, becasus it's a touch more feminne than I would go for. I don't know how eveyrone doesn't carry a bag. I need way to much stuff to fit in pockets. OMG, you took your Kelly in a track suit. So funny. Reminds me of the SATC Brikin episode when Samantha is trying to score a Birkin and she calles the Hermes SA and said, "I just saw a woman wearing a f*%#ing track suit carrying that bag." Lastly as a chapstick afficinado, I have Hermes chapstick, but the Nivea is better and for a fraction of the price. I've never found any chapstick as good as Nivea.

Thank you, Gene!! I agree, I love the Speedy and used to just carry Speedys all the time. But I could see how the Cluny might make you a little self-concious, but that bag is HIGH on my wishlist at LV. Haha, I love the irony of a tracksuit and an H- plus it looked kinda cute too! haha! I've tried Nivea before- maybe I need to give them another shot!

No one has ever brought up any bag I'm carrying in a negative way personally. I've gotten compliments from women, though. I honestly get weirder looks about my actual outfit, rather than the fact that I'm carrying a bag. That said, men online really do feel some type of way about it.

Honestly I've stopped carrying my wallet in my back pocket and just use my wife's purse because it's uncomfortable anywhere else anyways and my back has stopped hurting as much. My thought after that is, why the heck am I not carrying a bag?! My wife has everything we need with her, what do I have in my wallet, some cards that won't help if we got stranded. More men should carry bags.

The level of me not caring what dummies think or say is kinda profound. I do have the privilege of being a strong person that could defend myself and MORE if I needed, as do you probably. So it’s sad to say that if I didn’t feel like I could kick anyone’s ass, maybe my thoughts would be different

Women carry bags, men carry bags...........it's all good in my book.I We've come a long way and in this day and age people need to let go of criticizing others for their choices. There are more important things in this world that need our focus. 🙂❤

What's the diff? Men have been carrying "bags" for years. Backpacks, duffles, messenger bags, and soft leather brief cases or dr. bags. A purse or handbag is just a different style. They all do the same thing.

It’s never bothered me but I can see where it might be confusing to some to see a bright color or maybe a blingy clutch. How is this different then guys toting gym bags, backpacks or messenger bags it’s not when you really think about it but “the norms” as they say seem to dictate what is acceptable. I still think anyone should wear what they want and have the freedom to feel comfortable as they are. I just wish this was how the majority felt and not just those in big cities.
@CalebSnell
@CalebSnell 9 ай бұрын
I couldn't agree with you more Nancy. It's great that the cities are more accepting, but I hope that majority follows suit soon. It just doesn't make sense to give that much thought to what someone else is wearing if you don't like it. Takes too much energy to care!
