It’s so interesting to me that we do so many things the same way. My father was born in 1902 and he taught me to cook. He was a wonderful cook who always wanted his own restaurant. But we were poor. So I learned the ‘old’ ways. Probably a lot like your grandma taught you. I dry my noodles on hangers just like you do! He taught me to cook everything from scratch. I do buy flour, butter, milk and eggs because I have to but we hunt and fish and I have two large gardens to tend so I am able to put up as much food for my husband and I as I can. All my adult kids want my recipes but I have to tell them they aren’t written down. I should have insisted they learn, like you, but I didn’t. You are incredible to handle all that you do. I really enjoy listening to you and learning more about you and your family and of course, food! Thank you so much for making these great videos! PS- I hate wearing shoes outside and I loved seeing the bunny in your kitchen! My sister had a bunny in the house when we were kids :)

Write those recipes down now! They will be useful to your future generations. Use words like “give or take” if you need to. I have no children and I’m old now. This girl is so fun to watch. She is what I wanted to be in my youth. Sigh. But God has been good to me. I am inspired to get off the couch and keep trying to homestead in my own small way.

Yes, I am old as well solosaloon1959 and I have made up a couple family cook books for all the kids. I’ve taught young women (not family) how to bake bread, how to can, how to quilt, I even taught a young woman how to bake a chicken. Her mother didn’t cook and so she never learned and was afraid to try. One time we had friends over and the husband was dumbfounded that I knew how to cut up a chicken. I still wash out every soup jar with water to get the last bits out. That’s why this KZfaq channel is so important. To think someone called her ‘uneducated’ got it all wrong. She is a teacher. The most treasured of people.

My maternal grandma and I cooked and baked together. She taught me many Norwegian and Swedish recipes. Also making homemade noodles with my mom. I canned with my fraternal grandmother who was German and French Canadian. They are long gone and I miss them dearly. I am eternally grateful for all they taught me and the memories we created together! 💯❣️

I passed along your video to my best friend. My favorite part of all of your homemade recipes is that you have a base core of something, then you wing it. Perfect. We trust your families opinion and they love your soups, breads and everything else. Being a prior Mennonite, you bring your knowledge to the viewer and we trust your old, tried and true methods. Thank you for all you do, Ruth Ann.

My parents grew up in a mennonite community here in Canada. Our chicken noodle soup is quite different. The broth is simmered with star anise, pepper corns and bay leaf and that is it, no veggies. And then our noodles were always hand cut after rolling the dough up jelly roll fashion. We covered the rolled out dough with flour to prevent sticking before rolling and cutting, and then shook out the flour with a sieve. Big job but I still do it and love it. Thanks for sharing your version!

Now that I am retired I have more time to cook from scratch. I'm so blessed to have my husband retired as well. We sure do get a bigger bounty in our garden with his help!. 2 of 15 grandchildren live with us, so I have extra hands to help me weed or get eggs while I gathering vegetables. My family prefers to wait until now, after the weather has cooled, to eat soups. We hail from Scotland. Eastern European mainly. I love cooking comfort foods on Fridays. Specifically, Fridays since the kiddos have most of theìr test at school on that day. What a wonderful way to start our weekends! I really believe it matters to "sprinkle" God's loves into your meals. I pray as I cook. It calms me, and the rest of my family, as they eat and enjoy the Lord's blessings. God bless you all in your endeavors. ~Robin

Found your channel and enjoy all your videos. I make homemade pasta often. I have done canning.on a small scale. My vegetable garden is small and grown for the enjoyment of making homemade sauce, zucchini bread, plenty of green beans for dinner each night, peppers, basil. I enjoy learning from you. Watching your videos that show how you make butter, cheese, separating milk to get cream and skim milk just to mention a few. You work so hard every day to feed your family by creating it all on your farm. So talented! Your organizational skills are amazing and your temperament is wonderful. I’m amazed at your endless energy. I use to have that. I have one comment on your chicken soup though. I learned from my mom that using hot water from the faucet when cooking is not safe. Hot water dissolves metals such as lead and other unhealthy metals in a water delivery system much faster so it contains sediment which cold water does not. Cold water also tastes better. Please research my comment if you question it. You will find the information that explains hot tap water vs cold in cooking. Love your videos. I’ve been binge watching and I love it!!
