Halloween is the one time a year that my non-believing neighbours come to my door, so I'm definitely taking advantage of that! For many years now, we have put up a tent in our front yard and wrap it in lights (we call it the "Fellowship Hall of Light" - literally light in the darkness 😉). We set out chairs and serve hot chocolate, sweets and have intentional conversation with our community. We have even become a destination stop for families! It's been amazing way to get to know our neighbours and build relationships that have led to great spiritual conversation. ❤️ A great way to take something that was meant for evil and turn it for good!

That's wonderful! This is why I love all sorts of festivities: It brings people together, gets them talking and makes them exchange their thoughts and beliefs. And I truly believe that many people who were very sceptical before they met you, now realize that a christian lifestyle does not mean uptight and reserved people who have never heard of fun before.

Love the discussion! I was a SAHM for 21 years. My husband worked extremely hard so that our children had the luxury of a stay-at-home parent. We home-schooled our 2 children. Both had their own little businesses as teens (Our son raised meat chickens, laying hens, and cattle. Our daughter had a thriving photography business). Both graduated with highest honors from college. Our 28-year-old daughter teaches third grade in addition to being a pastor's wife. Our 25-year-old son teaches at Clemson University and travels on the weekends evangelizing in churches from Georgia to Ohio and all points in between. Having shouldered great responsibility as teens, they both were prepared to take on significant leadership roles in their early 20s. My highest honor in life has been to raise my children to love and serve God and others.

In some ways, embracing the role of 'Homemaker' is liberating, modern, and forward-thinking. We live in a world where in most circles saying that you're a stay-at-home mom or a homemaker is met with a sense of "oh," end-of-story we have nothing-in-common. Homemaking is not easy work and is a vastly under appreciated role.

I love this topic! I worked in retail for 17 years (I started at 16) and worked my way up to store manager and got married and had 2 kids. My husband and I felt so strongly led when we had our second for me to step away from my career and stay home. Everyone was always behind me helping motivate me to push on in my career and when we told them I was stepping away from work I got so much push back but I am so happy I did. By the time I picked the kids up and got home and made dinner we only had 20 minutes a day with them. So now I stay home and home school and we have grown a bigger garden and started a homestead and I feel so much more fulfilled now than I ever did before when I worked.

I absolutely loved this episode!! I am a stay at home mama to a 20 month old little boy, and I’m 18 weeks pregnant with a little girl. I’ve been trying to move into the role of being a “homemaker.” It’s not been easy, as I come from a family of working, career driven women. I feel like God is calling me into this kingdom work. Thank you for encouraging women!

Hi guys! My Bible study is reading mama bear apologetics right now which is a book about turning people toward Christianity and not away. Some of your topics are really supporting what I'm reading which is so nice! Last weeks chapter was on discernment, (taking the good and spitting out the bad) and it makes me think about Halloween or the shows our kids watch. The line is different for every family but I love talking through with children what they thought was maybe not so good. Raising children to discern is amazing to me. Anyway, I missed you guys, so glad you're back!

I appreciate your discussion having worked outside the home and having been a stay-at-home mom. Both my children are now grown. From my perspective, women who have made the choice to stay-at-home and those who work outside the home both have feelings of being undervalued. The idea of choice, and what is best for each individual family, is key. We should all be respectful and supportive of each other's choices.

I so love listening in on your conversations, even though I am in a totally different space than either of you. Let me give you an encouragement to think about the importance of including those who are alone in on your celebrations. I am a single woman in her 50s and can't think of how horrible it would be if I didn't have families that welcome me in and share life with me - especially on holidays when loneliness could be so overwhelming. I have loved being involved in the lives of my nieces and nephews, both actually family and close friends.

Love your wisdom and hearts for your families at such a young age. Balance is never easy when living with so many individuals. We never had Halloween in NZ for years till about 14 years ago. Our local Churches got together and created a Light Party to combat it. It became the most popular party in the town and doubled in size every year for a number of years. Was so proud of our Churches and our little town!

As a grandmother who is married for almost forty years I say amen to greeting your husband with at least a smile when he comes home ! I’ve had to put effort into that one and it’s very encouraging to a husband at least it was to mine. Also to controlling who comes into your home or plays with your kids .I always left our children play with the neighbor kids even if they were wild kids , because you don’t want your children to get the idea that they are better or above others , but I ALWAYS supervised even if it was from my kitchen window . And I never left our children go to there house . I can say it worked out well that way . Note : our children were not preschoolers more like 8-12 , so old enough to know cursing was not ok or other shenanigans and also knew to tattle if it got out of control. Our youngest is 19 so hindsight.

Ive learned to greet my husband at the door or not far from it, ask him how his day was. Usually dinners done or getting done so as he washes up and gets comfortable I finish dinner or serve it up. Disciplinary issues wait till after dinner so that his first interaction with their dad isnt negative in nature. We usually talk about my day or things I want to talk about during dinner or after. Sometimes that waits till the kids are in bed. Ive learned the hard way through all of this that if you dont make your husband your priority your relationship will slip. My relationship is always my priority. Im with my kids all day long, their needs are met before my husband gets home. So much great conversation!

Love these topics ladies! I have tried to be intentional about guarding my children's eyes and heart with the tv and books as well. I’m not perfect and things slip through my screening sometimes BUT They know what doesn’t align with our values and thankfully if something comes on that we don’t support they tell me right away. Lately it’s “mom! This curious George or whatever, has Halloween!” We don’t have anything to do with that either. It’s so important to not only screen what comes into our homes but also make sure our children understand what we are looking for and what we want to guard against. Their personal convictions at ages 6 and 8 is incredible!

I think being a stay at home mom is a great choice, and I think Martha Stewart actually elevated the idea of “home making” in the 90’s. Having said that, I bristle a bit at the word “submission”. My husband is my partner. We’ve invested in each other’s success and happiness. My job is a professional dynamic. I’m not submitting, but rather trading my expertise in interior design for money and opportunities. It’s a transaction. Interesting topic, Ladies. And, we celebrate Halloween, but loved hearing your perspective. Always wondered why some didn’t celebrate. Keep up these great discussions.

Thank you for sharing this. It’s so nice to listen to like minded women. I can’t tell you how many times I’m constantly asked what’s my job/ when will I work outside the home. I’m asked even by church people which is kind of sad.

I am SO appreciative of this conversation. I just had our first baby and transitioned from working outside the home to staying home and my full time job is now keeping the home, I am so thankful for this opportunity to be a homemaker rather than doing both. Honestly, I am so thankful. Thank you for this conversation!! Feel like we are friends!!❤

Jana, I laughed at your comment that reading to the kids makes you yawn...ME TOO😄I was just telling someone about it the other day. And Megan, Im guilty of the rushing the book too. Intention will be my challenge this week.

I enjoy listening to your conversations. I am a grandmother, so all of the child rearing is behind me. I am also a widow, so husband issues are in the past also. The reason I like listening to your conversations is because you both have good values to share with other young moms...if they will listen. I was a stay-at-home mom, also. I can identify with so much that you discuss. I am a Christian and appreciate the fact that you promote modesty. I love that you are home sewers, so was I. Sometimes, these days, you have to be in order to get modest clothing. Keep up the good work. Jayna, I hate clutter, too! 🙂👍 Oh, did not take my kids trick-or-treating. We would attend Fall festivals held at church or elementary school. 💖

Good conversation on daily topics we all deal with…I was a stay at home mom and I was very present with the raising of my children and grateful I could…It’s hard at times but we need to raise them in the way they should go…👍😀💕🇺🇸🙏🏻

Hi ladies, a Christmas chat with your thoughts would be great. I love fall decorations but we don’t do Halloween. I think autumn/fall with all the beautiful colours we have a lot to thank God for 🎃🍂🍁included. I really enjoyed your thoughts on things

Wonderful!! So happy you shared this. I should have added more to this comment last year. When we learned a lot more "behind the scenes" about Halloween, we decided as younger parents to "skip Halloween ". Obviously this is not a popular decision, especially when the kids got older and all their friends went trick or treating. Instead, as a family, we had "family movie night" and it was really the only night of the year that we watched a movie in our master bedroom and let the kids eat popcorn and treats while we all (6) piled on the bed. It think we all have happy memories of this in those early years. Now the kids are adults, and as with all things, they have grown up and made their own decisions. They do participate in various work or family Halloween traditions with their own friends and families. But, like you both said, as parents, you decide what is necessary to guide, teach, and protect your own family. We still do our own movie night at home. P.s. we were never against costumes and dressing up, we have a big chest of dress-up clothes and the kids could be all kinds of characters. But instead of it being for Halloween, it was permitted and even encouraged the other 364 days of the year.😊

My culture has something called Day of the Dead! We build altars to honor our relatives who have passed. And decorate them with marigolds, pretty cut out tissue paper art, candles, etc. We also make food like tamales and a special kind of bread called pan de muerto. Then we meet with our loved ones with our food at the cemetery and share memories

I look forward to your videos. I am a mom of 5-4 of my own and one step daughter. We started our own business in 2020 and I quit my full time job to be there and work side by side with my husband. It was the most life changing decision we have made. I now care for the kids, help him run our business and I started homeschooling our 2nd oldest. We are not Mennonite but I have been inspired by many of your values and those things have opened my eyes and changed my heart for the better. I often feel judged by many, including family about our daily choices. It’s really nice to feel supported and know I am not alone when I listen to you and others on here who chose to put your husband and children first. Just wanted to say thank you :)

I think that's why I keep referencing our culture. We have so much support and companionship with what we are doing. It's a lot tougher if you feel like you're on your own. But you're not! So many moms like you have told me the same thing. We just need to find each other!

@@MeganFoxUnlocked I am definitely learning that over time, there’s so many women who have the same mind set as me. They just sometimes are hard to find lol as far as the Halloween, I sort of made a twist on it so our kids didn’t feel like they were missing out completely since some are still in public school and feel the pressure from “friends” We stopped trick or treating many years ago and I started doing a scavenger hunt for them with different clues and treats along the way, they do dress up but always in something positive! They truly enjoy it. Valentine’s Day I spend the day cooking and baking everyone’s favorite foods and treats and we have a big family date night. We dress up fancy and the kids enjoy that a lot too

Kimberly, you are definitely not alone. You will never regret your 2020 decision to invest this precious time and energy into your children's lives. We homeschooled from day one of Kindergarten to graduation day, and it is something I will forever treasure and be grateful for. May God bless you and encourage your heart and send many like-minded encouragers into your life. Your comment was such a blessing to me!
