Part 2? Yes, please. The world Tolkien created is breathtaking in its expansiveness and detail, to the extent that if he lived too be a thousand, he would still have stories yet to be told within these lands.

"Are we not part of this world?" Yes!! More spotlights on lesser known regions 😁 Helps to have a greater understanding of different lands that aren't focused on in the books or films. Who knows what other people's or tales happened in these places. Perhaps subtle clues are hidden away that Tolkien meant to expand on but forgot. Makes them no less important or mysterious.

I love the potential of the lesser known, more obscure, and undefined. Ripe for creative expansion, as Tolkien intended. I'm glad the games elaborate on them. I wish I had time to play these days.

For part II - Nan Elmoth, the dark woods where Eol lives. And also Nan Tathren the land of willows. The first time I looked over the map of Beleriand, I was instantly drawn to the latter, loving willow trees in real life
@richardthomas5362
@richardthomas5362 Жыл бұрын
I don't think you are alone about the land of willows. I believe one of the messengers from Gondolin, on his urgent mission to get help from the west, fell in love with the place and spent a few years there. The only reason he left was because Ulmo apparently convinced him to build a raft to see the trees from the river. Once he was in the river Ulmo wafted him out and down the river. The Elf messenger was like, oh well, and continued his mission, was the last to set out (no kidding!) wrecked on the coast of Nevrast, met Tour, and got back to Gondolin. What was really funny is after his debriefing where he undoubtably told the King where he went and how long he was there, was like, "OK, thanks for your report". Nobody asked him why he spent so long in those woods on his urgent mission. LOL!

Not only have these videos grew my appreciation and interest in the lands of Middle Earth, but the Legacy LOTR Minecraft mod really started it since they created and fleshed out lands like Dorwinion, Harad, etc. in a way that you could actually explore their differences in a virtual space.

The name Ettenmoors is similar to that of the land of Ettinsmoor from The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. This can be attributed to the close friendship between Lewis and Tolkien.

Had some personal things come up and have been unable to involve myself in the Tolkien community recently, but this is a great video to come back to! The work that the devs on Lotro put in is so under appreciated by the wider Tolkien community. Us Lotro fans are very appreciative but they have done so much for us to visualise these places that we have heard seldom about (sometimes only a few lines). Another great video Yoystan and you are the best and have always been my favourite KZfaqr as you introduced me to the wider aspects of Tolkien’s Legendarium. Your videos feel exactly as if I’m sitting in The Cottage of the Lost play listening to the past events of our world. I will be forever thankful. 🙂

Dorwinion fascinates me most because of its unique position as a trade-link between the Woodland Realm, Dale and Erebor to the west, and the Men of Rhun to the East. A prosperous land filled with the riches of "vine and vale", holding fast for thousands of years by means of trade and diplomacy before the War of the Ring. Imagine for a moment what evil Sauron's Easterling host might have wrought before they marched on Dale and Erebor. Just as Weta Workshop wove historical designs and motifs into Tolkien's fictional realms, I like to envision Dorwinion's culture, architecture and military being likened Byzantine Greece and Anatolia, as well as Medieval Novgorod (which influenced the designs of Dale and Laketown). Like the Eastern Roman Empire and Medieval Venice, Dorwinion may have depended on levies and mercenaries from all over the world. It's rife for one's imagination, given the historical influences Tolkien wrote into Rhovanion.

If the wizards were tasked with finding Sauron, then it would make sense for Gandalf to travel to Forodwaith to ascertain whether the Dark Lord or his minions were in residence. It was an unexplored area, but Morgoth was known to have had one or two strongholds in such places, so Sauron might also.
