Hobbits live to about 100, Gollum stretched that to nearly 600 with the ring; and seemed to still be in "good" health. Would Aragorn have made it to 1300? 1500? And would he have methed out the way Gollum did?

I always hoped for a TV or film adaptation of the first age, but after watching season 1 of the RoP, I changed my mind.

I just don’t understand why, when it comes to these iconic stories, they just simply don’t stick to canon. It’s not like we had a film or tv series of the second age already. Just simply adopt the freaking book.

I can't stop thinking from the fact that Aragorn and Arwen are related. Aragorn being the desendant of Elros (Brother of Elrond) and Arwen being the daughter of Elrond himself. Does that mean Aragorn and Arwen are related? Arwen is Aragorn's cousin or whatever yet also Aragorn's wife. Mind blowing

Elendil must have had the most cause for retribution against Sauron, the responsible one for the Apocalypse of his civilazation. Who somehow survived and challenged him again in Middle Earth

Faramir is a rather interesting one because he would have totally been crashed by the ring, if he had entertained it for a second. But he was a simple dude only doing his job and that was thus completely immune to the ring.

This seems to me to exaggerate the importance of the One Ring in the minds of the Elves of that period. Sauron had been defeated twice even when he possessed the Ring. There was no strong reason to believe it was imperative to find it.

I find orcs very interesting. I find them interesting because they can be bread for war and multiply quickly and you really don’t know how old they are. For all we know Gothmog could’ve been one of the high priests or adviser to the king of Numenor and befriended Sauron while he was there and Sauron probably aided him with long life but decided not to turn him into a Ring Wraith but a creature to lead his army with his wraiths. When I look at Gothmog from the movie I see someone who looks distinctly different from the other orcs and he is handicapped from his injured or shortened arm. You can see he’s handicapped and the only thing I can think of is that he’s been involved in a lot of other wars with the Witch King in the past. Why would Angmar make him his second in command ??? Unless he served him well in the past. Sometimes, if a leader or elder of a group of creatures is respected because he’s been involved in a lot of wars and knows strategically how to conquered. That is the only reason I can think of why the other orcs respect him and don’t just kill him out right.

Would the Witch King trust another Ring Wraith as his second in command? They are evil and intent on power and domination…… surely the Witch King would give authority to a man or Orc or any other being he could corrupt before one of the other Ring Wraiths Another reason why evil fails …. They don’t trust one another

In Middle Earth there was no sign of epidemics, and nobody died of an infected scratch and a lack of antibiotics. How high was infant mortality, I wonder! To remove those awful things from pre-modern times basically takes away some of the most important problems that we solved with progress in science. Middle Earth is by design a place where you people don't need science and engineering to flourish, and even Hobbit subsistence farmers have enough surplus to throw lavish parties without having to toil especially hard. Their real world counterparts would be squarely in the Malthusian trap, but Middle Earth isn't like that. It's a fantasy place.

I owned a Middle-Earth wargame in which Gothmog was portrayed as a nazgul, back in the 70s-80s. As far as independent thought...each nazgul had once been a king and in that era were likely very competent warriors and strategists, and also had to operate independently, far into enemy territory (like roaming all over Eriador). Any leader of Sauron's armies was going to necessarily need to be loyal to Sauron, and who was more loyal than a nazgul? In the wargame, Gothmog was second only to the Witch-King, though I'd think Khamul was likely second, with Gothmog third in skill and thus placed as an adjutant and secondary to the Witch-King at Minas Morgul. I always pictured Khamul as running things at Dol Guldur once Sauron moved back to Barad-dur.

gandalf is more powerful than tom bombadil (at least in my definition of power). gandalf did far more to shape the future of middle earth than bombadil. bombadil, while resistant to the outer influence of the world, does very little to help to shape it. i totally get your perspective, though

Legolas didn't really do anything... Talking about an elf that took down a fell beast with a SINGLE arrow in a dark from god knows how far. Also Gimli killing 42 orcs at helms deep (even more then Legolas), nothing notable about him.

First off, another excellent video! I really enjoyed the twist LotRO pulled with Earnur/Mordirith being Gothmog, even if its very unlikely to be the true identity. It would be totally within the cruel malice and irony of Sauron to turn the King of Gondor into one of the chief architects of its downfall. In my personal opinion, I believe that Gothmog was mostly likely a Black Numenorean with a ranking similar to that of the Mouth of Sauron, maybe even being one of the leaders to bring Harad and Umbar under Sauron's banner during the latter third age. A man that would be feared by the Black Sepent, but could be afforded to be left to his own devices, should his betters (the Witch-King, namely) were to be indisposed by the bidding of Sauron [As I do not believe Sauron, and definitely not the lesser creatures, would have ever dreamed that the Witch-King would be slain. Maybe driven back by the White Wizard, but not slain in battle.]

The scenario doesnt get off the ground any way you slice it. They have no eagle masters to command the eagles. The eagles are messengers and birds are not usually beasts of burden. We only see them carry people for a short hop and complain the whole way. We are never given reason to believe travel by eagle is faster than by horse or by foot. In real life humans are faster than eagles over long distances. We could just as pertinently ask why they didnt build a teleporter from rivendell to mount doom.

i imagine they could go the path of quantum leap, show the actors in the play a different face than the audience. that wouldnt make much sense either, but at least the actors wouldnt look like total fools.

In Tolkien's sketches of orcs, there is information that the souls of those who stand out among them and are generally commanders may be fallen Maiar (Úmaiar). Gothmog may be one of them.
