My sleep has been agonising for a year, I honestly thought that was it for me at 46yrs old. Day two on oestrogel (x2 pumps in the morning) and utrogestan (x1 tablet at night) and last night I slept 7 hours straight through! I am gobsmacked this morning, but so relieved I could cry, I already feel like a different woman and am looking forward to my day. Unbelievable! Xxx

I am 65 years young and have not slept properly for around 10years. I thought I must be through the menopause as I don’t have hot flushes but this is making me rethink this and I will now research this as I am desperate for sleep as it affects my mood, skin, hair etc. Thank you for this x

Hi Judith, I am 62 years young & started body identical HRT @ 61 (10 years post menopausal) & within days my sleep improved . Similar to yourself hadn’t slept properly for around 9 years , but no other symptoms apart from the ones associated with sleep deprivation! Go for it , but expect some initial side effects . Good luck 😉

Judith Robinson: What many doctors don't know or won't tell you (as they are loath to go into too much detail to the "common" people) is that two other vital hormones go way lower in menopausal women than just the estrogens (E1, E2 "estradiol" & E3). The hormones that fall the most during menopause for 85% of women are testosterone and progesterone. NATURAL bio-identical progesterone is one of the human bodies most potent REGULATOR hormone. While all the hormones based upon cholesterol are important....progesterone regulates (and help to keep in bounds) the following hormones [ Testosterone, Estradiol, Aldosterone, Cortisol, DHT, Thyroid hormone & Insulin ]. When a woman stops ovulating her progesterone levels plummet by as much as 80% and sometimes more. This plummet of progesterone sets up other hormones to go out of whack or their hormone receptors to become "confused" or "resistant". Also progesterone is good for mood and sleep and relieving stress and is very important to prevent osteoporosis. Yet the doctors either don't know this or they want to avoid prescribing progesterone because it isn't a patented hormone. These HRT doctors would rather prescribe designer man made patentable hormones like MPA or levonorgestrel which do little for bone health or brain or mood or sleep help. Also another very important hormone is Testosterone. It just isn't a hormone for men. Women statistically need about 30-70 ng/dL of this hormone in their blood to feel well and think clearly. Plus an added benefit of testosterone for women is that it converts naturally in different body tissues to Estradiol (the most important Estrogen). So treating a menopausal woman or even a perimenopausal women with Progesterone and Testosterone is vitally important for them when their levels tank to very low levels (or even before that happens). If a woman still needs extra estrogens after that...than sure that should also be looked at for HRT. But this standard care HRT is condemning women to osteoporosis, poor brain function, poor mood, poor sleep and many women lose all libido or sex drive on top of that because testosterone in necessary for sex drive in both women and men.

WOW!! I've just found you, and I've learned so much. I started with the change 14 years ago, and the first thing that went was my sound sleep, which I'd never had any issues with. Then came the fatigue and massive weight gain. I never had hot flashes, though. My sleep is still fragmented and this is killing me. I've taken a variety of types of HRT over the years, all with varying degrees of success, and even now, I don't feel my dosages are optimized. I currently take Utrogestan 200 mgs, topical testosterone (I think 4mg), and Oestrogel (1 pump). After watching this video, I am definitely going to up it to see if it helps.

Thank you for this! I just started HRT a month ago and so far my sleep is slowly improving. I've had pretty much every perimeno symptom in the book at various times over the last 4 years but like you, sleep was what convinced me to give HRT another look and I found out the information we were given for so many years was flawed. I hadn't realized that taking it at night could help with sleeping; I thought only the progesterone was for that but I've been taking both at night because its easiest for me to use the gel at that time - but I'm so glad to know I've been doing the right thing without knowing it! I didn't get much info from my doctor about how and when to take it, just the dose pretty much. So once again thanks for this info! I'm so so sick of women's medicine being so unimportant to the medical and scientific community and completely shocked that the label switching you mentioned is even allowed! I'm in Canada and the bottle I have has a clear label. Once again, thanks for the tips and sorry for the novel lol Update: The sleep improvement slowly declined over 3 months until HRT was totally useless for that. I wanted to increase my dose from 2 pumps but my doctor wouldn't allow it because he is clueless about HRT. So back to the gyno I went. A different gyno this time. She didn't believe that I was menopausal at 46 so she made me quit HRT altogether to see what would happen (either that or have a cervical biopsy) and then have blood tests. A month later, after having constant hot flashes all day and all night, my tests confirmed I was telling the truth (imagine that!?). Now she has me on the lowest dose patch which is also basically useless for my sleep and I'm still having hot flashes with it albeit not as many. She wants me to have an ultrasound to confirm my uterine lining is actually thinning (it doesn't take a rocket scientist!!!!) before we look at increasing my dosage. That is still a month away. Meanwhile I average 5 hours of sleep a night and I can barely function at work or at home. I feel unsafe driving and I'm in a terrible mood every day as well. Nothing could have prepared me for the level of disruption and literal suffering peri-menopause has caused me. I'm not even 'officially' menopausal yet but it's been six months and counting since my last period so methinks this is it.

I was prescribed tibilone which has never helped and was reaching the end of my rope with my symptoms. Fast forward to this week my gp couldnt understand why i was on tibilone as its very old fashioned and has put me on utrostan and oestrogel. To say i am excited to finally maybe just have a life again is an understatement. My doctors visit was the result of not having slept in 48 hours! I was so scared to take HRT because of the increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer and was determined to get through menopause without synthetic hormones. Now into my 2nd year of averaging 5-6 hot flushes a night which wake me from my sleep in a sweat, I've decided the lack of sleep is probably far more dangerous than the HRT side effects and went and saw my GP. I have been prescribed 1 pump of estrogel per day along with 1 progesterone pill. I've been on them for 3 weeks now and still getting 4-5 hot flushes a night. I'm hoping it kicks in soon!

I find I can nap standing up after work but once I’m in bed I’ll go all night without sleep. I also have Ulcerative Colitis which causes chronic fatigue. @Dr. Michelle Sands I've been taking estrogel for 2 weeks in another desperate attempt to curb migraines. Was due to add the utrogestan tonight but I just can't go on with it. I feel absolutely terrible and I'm still having migraines. The worst thing is the pure rage which comes over me. I've never had this before and I'm really tearful all the time. I thought things were crap before but my mood is now so low I can hardly face leaving the house.

Hi very interesting that you use the estrogen at night. I have been using it in the morning, and utrogestan at night. I still get up around 3am or 4am for a wee, and can't get back to sleep afterwards,, previous to hrt I was up 3 or 4 times a night! I will try using the sandrena gel at night to see if it will help break the 3 or 4am waking. Thank you

I cant get in the bed to sleep. I will stand doing something and pass out in the middle of it. Last night with drink bottle , it assed out before drinking , woke up in wet bed. I get mad at myself coz it’s 5am when this cursed feeling stops and lets me get into bed with no hang ups . I’m also not very conscious when this is all happening. As a result, my legs are swelling with water fluid hormones all over the place and I’ve got no idea how to get it all better. I know that the sleep would cure so much of my health issues and yet it’s one of the issues is to let go and hop in my bed and be allowed. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi. I'd like to know how long it takes for eostrogel to work. I was evoral conti patches which started to reduce my hot flashes after 2 weeks and stopped them after about 4 weeks. Then after nearly 3 months the flashes returned worse than ever before. I changed to eostrogel ( 2 pumps) and a progesterone pill 2 weeks ago but this has made no difference so far. I had anxiety and insomnia before any of the hrt but with the overheating and sweats coming every hour from evening til morning any bit of sleep I get, I'm woken out of. Haven't had more than an hour of sleep at a time for so long and usually 3 hours in total is the maximum I get in 24 hours. When I wake I get extreme anxiety and it takes such a long time to get back. I'm in constant torment with the anxiety, depression and lack of sleep. Antidepressants and antipsychotics have not helped, they only made me feel much worse. I'm at my wits end. I attempted to end it all twice this year. I feel like I can't go on like this much longer. I've been in torment for over 8 months
